She woke up on a lumpy mattress. As she opened her eyes, she realized she was in a plain room with cobwebs and dust everywhere. Where am I?
She went and looked out the tiny window in the corner of the room. It was difficult to see through because obviously nobody has cleaned it in a while. She was still in Madison, she knew that. From what she could see it looked like she was in the abandoned apartment buildings on the South side. Right as she was thinking this, the bedroom door opened.
“I thought I heard you up and about. How ya feeling?” It was the blonde boy, Brennan.
“Fine. Where am I and why am I here? I don’t even know you.”
“Well good morning to you too.” Was all he said.
“Are you going to answer my questions?”
“I might if I feel like it. But right now I don’t like your hostile tone.” Autumn couldn’t believe this guy. He just comes out of no where, saves her from a ‘demon’ and then takes her to his lair or whatever this is.
“You can’t be serious! You practically kidnapped me!” She screamed.
“What a temper you have. I’m going to sign you up for anger management classes ASAP.” She already didn’t like this guy. He had that kind of air to him that he was better than everyone else.
“Fine, you know what? I can get home by myself.” She said as she tried to walk past him out into the hallway.
“I don’t think so.” He said, grabbing her shoulders and turning her back towards the room. “You are staying here until we figured out what happened.” She looked up at him. She couldn’t tell this last night, but standing next to him she realized he was incredibly tall. Probably a couple inches over six feet.
“What do you mean ‘we’? Are there other people here?”
“Of course. You didn’t think I lived in this dump by myself did you? My mother would never approve.” Oh great. She thought, he’s the sarcastic type.
“Can you just please tell me what’s going on!” Brennan just looked at her for a minute. Sizing her up maybe? She didn’t know.
“Okay, but the truth isn’t going to be easy to hear. Do you think you can handle it?” He wasn’t joking around any more. He was completely serious. Oh man. What did I get myself into? “Wait here.” He said as he walked out of the room.

There is definitely something different about her. She seemed like a normal human, but those eyes of hers were startling. She couldn’t be normal.
“Brennan, where have you been? We need a game plan here.” Cadence said. Cadence was Brennan’s age. She was tall and beautiful, with red hair and very bright green eyes. All of them had unusual eyes. It’s what marked them. Lucas, Cadence’s brother, had bright blue eyes, and Jack had an odd bronze shade to his eyes. Jack was their leader. He was in his mid thirties, and very knowledgeable.
“Just attending to our guest.” Brennan answered with a lazy smile. Cadence rolled her eyes. “Brennan, don’t get too attached to the girl.”
“What makes you think I’m getting attached to her? I was just making sure she was comfortable.”
“Well you’ve gone in to see if she was ‘comfortable’ about 10 times in the last 12 hours. You need to stop yourself from falling for her, okay?”
“I don’t think we need to worry about that, especially now that she’s started talking.”
“What? She’s awake? Why didn’t you tell us Brennan?” That was Jack.
“I was going to but Caddy sidetracked me.”
“I did not sidetrack you—” Cadence began, but she was cut off by Jack.
“That’s not important right now. Brennan, what did she say?”
“She wants to know the truth. I think we should tell her too. She has the right to know.”
“You know that’s not possible.” Lucas said. “Humans aren’t allowed to know of our existence.” Lucas was a year older than Brennan, 18, but he still acted like he knew everything. Even though Lucas was Brennan’s best friend, some times he got on his nerves.
“I know humans aren’t supposed to know about us, but I don’t think she’s your normal human. There’s something different about her.”
“Yeah? Like what? This one doesn’t like you, is that it?” Lucas said sarcastically. Brennan glared at his friend.
“No, I know what Brennan means.” Cadence interjected. “Have you looked at her eyes? Maybe she’s one of us.”
“One of who?” Said a small voice from behind them. They all whirled around to see Autumn standing there looking totally confused.
“How long have you been standing there? I though I told you to wait!” Brennan yelled. “I should have known someone like you never did what they were told.”
“Someone like me? What is that supposed to mean?” she replied angrily.
“Wait,” Jack said. “I see what you mean about her eyes Cadence.” He turned to Autumn. “Have your parents talked to you about anything unusual?” He asked her.
Autumn looked down at her feet. “I never knew my parents. They died when I was young.” She answered them.
“Well that explains why she wouldn’t know anything about us. Her parents died in battle.” Brennan said. Autumn just looked at him like he was crazy. He was starting to think he was crazy, especially considering the way he felt when she looked at him. She was rude and blunt, he shouldn’t feel this way.
“What do you mean ‘died in battle’? They died in a car accident when I was one.”
“That’s not likely. They probably let a demon get the better of them.”
“What the hell!! You are crazy!” She looked at the others, “Do you believe this stuff too?” she asked incredulously. They all nodded. “It’s true Autumn. I know it’s hard to believe but it’s all true. And you are most likely one of us.” Jack said sympathetically.
“What are you?” None of this was making any sense to her. She was beginning to think she ran into a bunch of crazy people that escaped from the psych ward.
“We are Daemn Occisors, which is Latin for Demon Killers.” Lucas replied stonily. “We fight and kill demons. We protect heaven from being overrun by evil.”
“Wait a second. So you’re saying you guys are a bunch of angels? Yeah, I’m totally going to believe that.”
“No, we aren’t angels. We’re humans, but chosen humans. We have abilities others don’t have.”
“You guys are crazy. I don’t believe anything you’re telling me.” She needed to get out of here.
“Yeah? If we’re so crazy explain what you saw last night.” Brennan retorted. He looked angry.
“I don’t know! It was probably some trick of the light.” Autumn said not even believing herself. She had to admit, after what she saw last night, she would have to believe them.
Brennan noticed her change of thoughts and started to smile an infuriating grin. It was mostly infuriating to her because she thought it made him look sexy. Get a grip Autumn! He’s a jerk! She had to tell herself.
Autumn sighed, “Okay, I guess you guys have a lot of explaining to do.” She said giving in. They all smiled when they realized they finally got through to her.
