I could not believe what I was doing. Yes I was alright at hunting but spying was a different matter…
It was highly unlikely that he was one of the four, and what? Could he be the owl? If he was smart then he would know better than getting stuck in detention. Was he the fox? Cunning I was sure he could be, but not to the point where he’d get away with everything, after all I caught him by my bike.
Now what were the other two… I was interrupted as the school bell rang finishing P.E. and a long Thursday lesson.
Casually walking out of the school building I kept my eyes and nose open. Though the orange shirt I was wearing mellowed my appearance down it was a dull shade, similar to that of the sand on an isolated beach which a lot of us know about but don’t know how to find …
Similar to that of Luna’s eyes… I almost forgot about my mission when I saw him walk out the school gates, appearing suspicious in a dark navy hood.
Eyeing the other students around me I slowly changed my course as to seem that I was up to my normal business. He went around the gate and walked his normal path to the left.
Right where I parked my bike!
I quickened my pace, convinced I would catch him scratching the paintwork again. He walked right past it, not even glancing at it. I stared at him for a moment before slowing down as to not come too close.
Now it was just us two walking on the road.
Drat now he’d be able to hear me I muttered mentally, glancing around I spotted the shrubbery which grew in an isolated piece of forest which the housing estate hadn’t snatched yet.
A sly grin came over my face as I gently entered the bushes, wincing as they rustled under my movement. Once I was across the border I crouched down just low enough for the top of my head to be seen over the plants.
His pace was that of a drunken man, stumbling occasionally and swaying like he was as light as a feather. I was amazed his chunky sneakers didn’t keep him weighed down. As he slowly moved out of sight I quickly moved onwards before hastily crouching down again.
This part of the town was an area which I’d never been to before. It was known to be a place for ghettos. Crime was common and the houses were homes for hooligans, as he still walked in the suburb I was surprised at how wrong the football team guys were. They’d mentioned shabby, chipped paint, run down, empty houses, this was one of the cleanest suburbs in town yet!
White washed buildings, gardens with well kept lawns, cars in neat condition the occasional Mustang in a driveway.
I came to the edge of the forest, hesitating as I realized we were both at the same pace. I froze as he walked on, not once looking back. My heart raced as he continued down the street until…He looked at a Lancer, not the nicest car.
Though I couldn’t see through his hood I imagined he was eyeing it up and down. I waited for him to move on….
He stared at it… It was so quiet if I even breathed he would have heard. Holding my breath I watched as he pulled the sleeve back on his left arm and placed his hand flat on the body of the car.
For a moment he remained still, then he started shaking the convulsions growing until I was certain he would collapse in a heap. I slowly began to move, waiting for him to fall… He didn’t.
Suddenly he stopped; he lifted his hand off the bonnet to remove his hood. His face had changed, he was paler, eyes wider and his eyebrows knitted together.
What was he so scared of? Then he turned to me. I was busted…
He stood staring at me…
What happened? He said nothing, made no gesture towards me. I was about to see if he was alright when he said blankly.
“He is going to die,” he stated turning and continuing to walk away. I frowned.
“Who is going to die?” I called after him. I stopped as he turned to look at me again.
“The driver,” he said, “the driver of the car is going to crash into a tree and die.” I opened my mouth to speak and then shut it again. He began to walk again. It didn’t make sense.
“B-but why are you so sure?” I asked stopping him. He turned back completely around, his expression sending shivers down my spine, his eyes were hollow.
“Because I saw it,” he answered with an edge of fear to his voice. I opened my mouth, gaping slightly as he walked away.
