“Brooklyn to Eastwood” the loud speakers said as the train rattled on, as I tried for the hundredth time to get comfortable in the hard seats. “We will be arriving in Eastwood, in 5 minutes” the loud speakers rattled on and I let out a sigh.

“Honey, let’s go” a man walking down the isle said as he sat across from me. “I’m coming” his wife or girlfriend said coming to sit beside him. “I don’t know why you have to be so rude” she whispered, thinking no one else could hear them. “If you hadn’t taken so long” he said and I blocked them out, turning to look out the window.

The landscapes danced past as I watched impatiently out the window. A few clouds already covered the sky and the distance mountains had mist surrounding their tops. I watched as we climbed a small hill winding our way through the open field. Farmers and cattle could be seen every other fenced in field. I let out a small breath and hugged my bag closer. I watched a dog who was barking at the train as it passed, then running off whining when the train answered back with a loud whistle. Smoke suddenly surrounded my window, blocking my view and when it cleared I could see a station up ahead.

“Eastwood” the speakers kept repeating over head and I slowly stood. “Come” the man said to his wife as they too got off the train.

I watched it roar back to life, not picking anyone up at the nearly empty station and carry on slowly down the tracks. I let out a sigh and felt the wind dance through my hair. I changed my vision over and spotted cattle in the field over. So I opt to take the trail instead of crossing through the field. Seeing as startling the cattle wasn’t a wise thing to do, when you didn’t want to be seen at all.

“Nice choice of landscape, much better then the grimy city” the man’s voice came like a whisper behind me and I smiled widely. “Never miss a beat do you” I said and he chuckled, though it was filled light humor. “Loved the touch, with the beers a very nice addition to the kiss” he said and I blushed slightly, though he couldn’t tell. “Oh, I see your soul can turn a fiery red” he said, I knew he was using his vision to see my emotions and felt my aggravation growing. “You liked that did you” I said taking a step forward, hearing his footstep on the platform. “Which ever you choose it will only wind you up dead” he said and I smiled widely. “1” he started counting and I smiled widely.

I grabbed my gun and shot at his feet, causing him to move quickly. While he was busy recovering from the shock of my actions I took of running. I leapt the fence and into the pen with the herd of cattle. I ran around the edge of them getting some pretty weird looks, as they continued munching on the grass. A shot rang out and the cattle let out a horrified cry. The man entered the field too causing the cattle to scatter in fear.

“You shot at the cattle” I hollered back at him, running. “Well if you had stayed still I would have hit you” he hollered in reply and I continued weaving around huge clumps of grass, through the field. “Honestly, you should know better” I said letting out a laugh. “Amusing isn’t it” he shot again and it hit the only tree in the entire field. “I guess the, you can’t hit the broad side of a barn motto would be fitting right now” as I pointed to a large barn one field over from us. “Your hilarious, you know that” he hollered as he leapt over a muddle puddle that I had went around. “The cows are after you” I hollered glancing behind him and he did too.

He suddenly put his gun away and ran faster. I slowed a bit looking for a way out as he caught up to me. We ran side by side, jumped over puddles and small stacks of hay. He glanced behind once and we took off, running harder. I was laughing and he was too, our breathing coming in grasps. I smiled widely over at him and he only grinned at me. Both of us racing across the farm field and we continued to hear the cows running after us.

Suddenly we jumped the fence and landed on the other side on our feet. We both were bent over holding our knees, grasping for air. I let out a loud laugh and the man beside me did too. We glanced at the cows who had veered off and started running toward the barn. We broke into laughter again and my stomach started aching. We were breathing hard and slowly the man sat down.

“Geez, those cows were mad” he said laughing in between breaths. “Yeah, told you not to shoot them” I said placing my hands on my hips, shaking my head. “I guess I’ll listen next time” he said and I smiled widely at him. “Wonder if they are carnivores” the man said as I continued walking down the road a ways, holding my book bag. “Look” I said and he followed me, looking at a sign.

“The End Of Eastwood” was printed in bold white letters. “Population 2” was right below a huge barn on the sign. “Not counting cows” the man said looking at the fine print.

We both laughed.
