Sunset Orphanage was written in bold letters on the plaque. It was built in 1990 and had been run down like this since, well I assumed that. We looked at the dark colored door and it suddenly became obvious what we had to do.

We tapped on the door and after the 10th tap, a man with a huge cigar sticking out of his mouth appeared. He was a giant man and he was in his boxers. I made sure I glanced at his face and nothing else. Nathair found this funny and nudged me with his arm. He had a long curled mustache and a very, very large nose.

“Can I help you” he blew smoke into our faces and I saw Nathair move his hand to his gun. “Yes, we are looking for a young man, named Sam” I stepped up and redirected Nathair mind, to the reason we were here. “Oh, Sam we have him” it sounded like kennel. “Well we are a young couple and looking to adopt, plenty of time” I was tempted to say blah, blah after my words. “Oh, really” he raised an eyebrow at us and Nathair put his arm around my shoulder, as if to prove the point. “Well, alright right this way” he turned and we followed, Nathair removing his arm immediately.

The building was a mess, empty unwashed dishes in the sink. The TV was older then the house and the screen was blurry. The floors were covered in what looked like spaghetti sauce but I wasn’t going to stare, to find out. The windows were dirty and I was certain it let in some of the cold. The man walked straight across the building and to the bottom of the stairs, where he stopped glancing at us.

“I have leg trouble, so I’ll leave you two to climb the stairs and find Sam” he waved dismissively and then hobbled off to the couch chair. “Find Sam” Nathair mumbled disapprovingly and we slowly climbed the stairs. “What do we do” I whispered softly and he simply shrugged. “Well wife, if Sam is anything like we hoped then we might as well take him home” Nathair said as if someone was listening in on our conversation. “He’d be in a better situation with us, then in here” he whispered closely in my ear and we made it too the top step.

It was in much better condition, the floor swept and the windows cleaned. It was a simple layout. 10 doors on floor, which continued on for 2 more them. I glanced at the first door and felt odd. No sense of direction sucked and then we changed our eyes. Our vision was slightly blurry but we could see clearly.

We glanced into each room, the bodies were warm but they didn’t have a strong soul. Nothing like the one we were looking for. We climbed the stairs to the next floor and did the same exact thing, coming up empty handed. We became worried, that his Sam and our Sam, were 2 different kids. We made it to the last floor and slowly looked in the rooms.

Finally in the very last room we saw a vibrant shape of a body. It was bright red and he certainly had a soul stronger then any we had seen before. It reminded me a lot like Nathair’s soul light. We smiled widely at each other and made our way to the last room.

We pushed the door open and stood staring at Sam.
