The moon was above the horizon by time we appeared at the Orphanage again. We peeked inside the building and saw the owner had fallen asleep in front of the TV. We both changed our vision and looked the insides. Everyone seemed to be in bed and still the top floor was empty. I saw movement and Sam, radiant soul shining down at me.
“Psst” Sam called down to us and we moved to look at the window he was standing at. “Come on” Nathair waved, motioning for the kid to come down onto the roof. “What, are you crazy” he was instantly bulking and I smiled, seeing his weakness. “Come on, sneak down” Nathair tried again but the kid refused to move.
I watched the very angry man climbed up softly onto the roof and slowly help Sam down. Same was grinning madly the whole way and I knew trouble was only just beginning. They both landed in the grass with a soft thud and then we started walking down the road. Sam was holding tightly to his book bag and seemed pleased. Nathair had a book bag over his shoulder as well and I started noticing similarities.
“It’s those creatures, I see on TV sometimes isn’t it” he whispered, his voice quite and steady. “Yes” I whispered, coming to walk on his other side. “What do they want” I glanced at Nathair, wondering if I should finish my sentence. “They’ re after you, Sam” he finally whispered and Sam halted. “What” he seemed surprised by this. “Your visions” I whispered barely able to be heard by anyone. “Because I can see people’s souls I’m going to die” he was slightly frantic now. “No, that is why we are taking you with us” that didn’t seem to convince him. “Why not you two, if you have the vision too” he was clenching tightly to the strap on his shoulder. “You haven’t seen the real colors of this world since you were born, we have” Nathair was making it sound like that was obvious. “Your blood is different from ours” I whispered softly and he seemed slightly angry.
“For another time, my visions are worthless, I’m worthless” Nathair seemed to bulk when the kid started getting emotional but I didn’t. “Your not worthless” I instantly was holding his shoulders and he looked up at me. “Sam, your special and I don’t mean that any way you think” I whispered and he seemed to be hanging onto my every word. “You’re visions are here for a reason, you’re here for a reason and we have to face whatever that is” we both were looking down the road. “Together but you have to stop this worthless, talk” I said and he grinned slowly.
“So who is he, anyways” Sam was asking about Nathair. “A pain” I let out all in one breath, both of us walking on either side of Sam. “I beg to differ” he said suddenly and I laughed softly. “You’ll see” I winked playfully at Sam, causing him to laugh softly. “What about her” he asked Nathair about me. “She is an even bigger pain who always is getting into sticky situations, needing a man’s help” I felt like punching Nathair, I resisted. “Is that a gun” Sam’s eyes widened when he saw Nathair’s jacket revealing the metal.
It went on like that all night, questions and answers. It was is Sam was trying to learn all about us in one night. He even asked questions, I didn’t have the answer too. Especially about my old life, so I just said I had run away from home. Nathair was happy to share is tragic life story. We suddenly seemed like an odd bunch but with the same thoughts in mind.
The Blood Thieves were getting closer with each passing day. We had to get out of here and quick. Sam’s life was in danger and so wasn’t ours. The world was crumbling apart and we now had a 15 year old on our hands. Who I soon learned was more like Nathair then I could have ever imagined. This was going to be one long journey.
