It was 2 years earlier that this had all began, that we had met and we had ended up like this. I remembered that day well but it still made no sense. Believe me I replayed that day over and over in my mind. Still it made no sense.

Curiosity gets the better of us sometimes and curiosity did me. A new club had opened up down the street from my apartment and I wanted to see how shabby this place was going to be. When I walked up to the big black oak doors I knew this place was going to offer me something that no others had. I felt a bolt of energy flow through me as soon as my fingers touched the door handles. Mind you this place had no security or guard to open the door!

I walked in and the place was booming like thunder with it’s music. A bar greeted me and branched off toward the left was the dance floor. To the right was a few tables, booths and of course stairs which lead to a private section. I looked around, taking in the sight of the dance floor, people dancing so tightly together that no air could slip through. A few couples making out at the tables and the young male bartender wiping off the oak bar.

I closes my eyes once and allowed my vision to change. Growing up with this ability proved very useful in times like this. I opened my eyes and suddenly I could see black taking form around everyone else, the only thing stood out was a glowing light flowing around the room. It mingled close to a few people and made it’s way along the railing toward the private section. It was trail of a powerful soul, that I could track and detect.

I glanced up at the private section and I saw a glowing outline of a man. I closed my eyes once again and my vision went back to normal. I slowly made my way to the bar and sat down, glancing back up. He was gone of course and I was left with just an image of his soul. I knew he was special but I didn’t realize to what extent.

I spent the rest of the night there, hoping I would be able to catch him coming down the stairs. Make to look like a coincidence and totally innocent. However it was 4 am in the morning and still I had seen no sign of him. The bartender was getting rather aggravated with me because I was sitting at the bar, just not ordering any drinks.

Finally an hour later I stood and walked out the doors. I felt the cold night air around me and the way the streets smelt. I smiled widely and allowed my nose to relax. I continued down the sidewalk and passed several street lights.

Suddenly I heard counting and realized they were with my footsteps. When I neared 10 I heard a click and it took me a while realize what that noise reminded me of. I had seconds to react but back then, I was slow and it was too late.
