Min Monroe wanted nothing more than a normal life and what did she get instead? Wings. Big, beautiful Faery wings she can't get rid of. But when things get complicated at her new private Faery school, she has to keep her head up, her wings high, and deal with it. At least, until love gets in the way.

Oh and some credit needs to go out here to my friend Ophelia Autumn for helping me come up with some of the names of the characters and all that :)

Chapter 14

I woke up naked with the cream colored silk bedsheets wrapped around my body and a pair of arms wrapped protectively around my waist. I giggled as Irecognized those muscular arms and remembered where I was. The night before slowly came back to me. My cheeks grew red adn I giggled at how much funRyker and I had had blowing each other and making each other scream in pleasure,

A pair of soft lips kissed my neck then kissed a path up to my cheek. When they pulled away I looked up and found Ryker smiling down at me. "Good morning beautiful."

I giggled, feeling the blush creep back to my cheeks. "Good morning handsome."

He chuckled and stretched his arms above his head and let out a yawn. "I don't know about you, but I haven't slept this good in a long time."

"Me neither. This bed is so soft and those pillows? My God, it was like sleeping on a cloud. And don't even get me started on these silk sheets." I rub the soft material against my skin. "How did you get all this anyway? I mean, this is real silk, not that rip off crap you get from department stores. Plus your pluthera of electronics over there. This stuff isn't cheep in the least. Are you like a bank robber or something?"

Rykers laughter echoed throughout the room. "Min, you're insane."

"So I've been told now answer the question."

"No I'm not a bank robber. My family is extremely wealthy and I've inherited a lot of money throughout the years."

"I'll say. So do you have any siblings you have to share your inheritance with or is it all yours?"

A sad look came to his gorgeous dark blue eyes. "My brothers died. As well as my parents."

"Oh Ryker I... I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have asked." I really wanted to smack myself for being so stupid.

"It's all right Min. There's no way you could have known, don't beat yourself up. They didn't much like me anyway."

We sat in silence for a minute as I let that roll around in my brain. Why was it that no one seemed to like Ryker yet I was so hopelesslyattracted to him? Was there something about him I was just missing? He was so sweet and beautiful it made it hard to believe anyone could truely hate him. "How?"

"How what?"

"How did they die?"

He blinked then quickly looked away from me. "My brothers were in the army and were killed in battle. Jason was twenty at the time and Derrek was eighteen. They barely got to even live their lives." He took a shakey breath. "My mother was pregnant when my brothers were killed and went intoa spiraling depression nd eventually killed herself. We tried to save the baby but it was too late. My father... my father was killed by..."

He was choking on the last word and tears were filling his eyes. I saw true pain in the memories he was holding and I studdenly understood why he was so sheltered. "By who, love?"

"Me." He gasped out. My eyes widened and I scooted away from him.

"No. No you didn't. Ryker tell me you didn't."

He gave a stiff nod. "I did. And everyday I regret it. I was just so pissed about everything, my brothers, my mother and I wanted to take my anger out of the world. But instead I ended up taking it out on the one man who deserved it least. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't regret the choices I made the day I killed him. Not a day goes by thatI don't wish that I could go back and stop myself."

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I listened to the horror of Rykers past. One of them anyway as I presumed there were more.

"Min please don't be afraid of me.Please. I already have enough people afraid of me for now reason. I know now you have a perfectly good reason but I don't want you to be afraid." He looked at me with tears streaming down his face, his voice broke a few times at the pain he felt.

"Ryker I'm not afraid of you.You regret what you did and I believe you. I also know now that you trusted me enough to tell me that part of your past so thank you."

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"Listening to me and believing what I told you. Most would berunning away from me by now. "

"Oh... You're welcome. So are you ever going to tell meeverything abiut your past?"

Ryker wiped the tears off his cheeks and away from his eyes. "Perhaps one day when you're ready. However,it may come out before that day for some reason and if it does I want you to be prepared. There are a lot of things you'll see that you'll never be able to unsee. Things you'll hear you'll wish you never had. So when that day comes, if it does, I want you to be prepared. Prepare for the worst and then some because that is exactly what you will get."

I gulped and nodded. Rykers past must have really been a true horror story that I was even close to scratching the surpface of. "When do you think I'll be ready?"

"Not today. Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present. And I don't want to ruin that present for you."

I laughed. "That's so corny."

Finally thesmile returned to his lips. "I know. Now go get ready, I'm starving and it's breakfast time."

I got out of the bed and went to the bathroom. After a quick shower and a change of clothes, Ryker and I headed to the dining hall for breakfast. Since it was Sunday pretty much every student was in there for breakfast even though usually, on a school day almost no one comes down for breakfast. As we went in I saw my table of friends all sitting together laughing and talking. I tried not to let the sight hurt me being as by now they all probably knew about me. But my heart still cracked at the sight of them.

I walked up to the line and purposely past the table in hopes of hearing some of what they were saying.

"You know Jayk's my roommate and he's really not that bad." Graysen was saying. "I think you need to give Min a chance Beylie."

"I still can't believe you live with a Dark Sider." Beylie grumbled.

"He's hardly there! He's usually out with Misty or the other Dark Siders. It's like I have the room all to myself until he comes back at night to sleep."

"Maybe it wouldn't be the same with Min though." Sommer jumped in. "Min would be there more."

I didn't hear anymore of what they said; I had gotten out of hearing range. I couldn't believe this. I never knew Jayk roomed with Graysen. Yet Beylie still had the nerve to throw me out? Graysen should have been more scared of Jayk than Beylie was of me. Jayk wasn't the biggest guy on the planet and he was younger than Graysen but I still found him more intimidating than Graysen. This was bullshit.

But I didn't say anything about it. I just got my food and followed Ryker to the Dark Sider table where everyone sat.

"Well aren't you two a little slow this morning?" Misty teased. I rolled my eyes. "Oo and cranky too."

I sighed. "Sorry Misty I just... Jayk how come you never told me you roomed with Graysen?"

He looked up at me from his plate and and swallowed the food in his mouth. "It never came up I guess."

"Why didn't he kick you out when you changed?"

"Um... I don't know...?"

I grabbed him by the shirt. "Jayk."

"Whoa hey carefull with the shirt." He pried my fingers off his shirt adn smoothed it out. "Maybe because I'm nice to people and don't grab them by their shirts."

I knew he was joking but it really pushed my last buttons. "Asshole."

"Min what's wrong with you? You were fine five minutes ago." Ryker took my hand in his.

"I'm fine all right?" I pulled my hand away from him and started eating. There was an awkward silence at the table after that. Not even the twins cracked a joke. No one spoke until Misty cleared her throat.

"So, Min, there's this party tonight, it's like a a dinner party. There's music and dancing and the most amazing food plus you get to meet some really fun people. Other Dark Siders from different places and it's really fun. I was hoping you could come." She smiled at me.

I figited with a hole in my jeans. "Yeah that sounds fun. Tonight?"

"Yeah." She squeeled. "Oh I just knew you'd say yes. So it's kind of a formal event, black tie..."

"Black tie? But... I don't have a fancy dress. I don't evenhave a non-fancy dress."

Annabelle laughed. "Are you sure you're even a girl?"

"Oh shut up Annabelle." One twin came to my rescue. "Not every girl on this planet has to own a dress just because you do. Some girls don't like them so shut your big ass fucking mouth before I shutit for you."

"Thanks Erik." Misty leaned over and kissed Erik on the cheek. "Now, Min, about that dress." She gave me an evil smile.

"Oh God. Min, I think your Misty's new dress up doll." Erik laughed.

Misty smacked him not even two minutes after kissing him. "Shut up dork. I was just going to tell Min to come by my room later and you could see if you like one of my dresses."

"Oh hell no. She is not coming into our room Misty and that's final." Annabelled sneared her glossy lips at me.

"If you don't like it, don't be there." Misty shot back.

Annabelle growled and looked away from me. Ryker took my hand again and gavce it a squeeze. "Go play dress up with Misty and find something pretty to wear." He leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear, "And make sure it's sexy too." He gently nipped at my ear then pulled back.

"Ryker Daae you are so bad." Misty swatted her hand at him. "So what do you say Min? Shall we go play?"

I smiled and blushed as Rykers words played through my head. "Yeah. Lets go play." I looked at him but aimed my words at Misty. She squeeled, grabbed my arm and pulled me from the dining hall.

I guess I really was her new life-sized dress up doll.
