NOVEMBER 22nd - First Day of School

I woke up at 6pm. The sun hadn't set yet, but it was close. I slowly got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and shower.

"Are you washing your hair again?!" Lauraine yelled banging on the bathroom door. "Get out! I don't wanna be late for school!"

"Gosh I'm sorry!" I called back.

I got out of the bathroom 5 minutes later.

"Finally" Lauraine gasped, pushing me aside to get into to the bathroom. I didn't think anything of it. She was always acted like a b-yotch the first week of school...

When I went back into my room the moonlight was now shining in. I picked out something inconspicuous to wear; hopefully nobody would notice me...yea right. I'm the only human in the history of ever to attend an immortal school, to live in an immortal community....and not all, but many immortals had serious distaste for humans. I'm surprised Lance didn't break up with me as soon as he found out. I mean a human and immortal coupling is considered extremely slack in my world. I'd be like his pet...and don't get me started on vamps. If I was with a vamp I'd be like a plaything, and if he were to drink from--God I can't even think of that right now.

I put on an off the shoulder close fitting black sweater and low rise, dark blue, hip hugger jeans. I was also wearing the dark blue full moon ring Lance had gotten me.

I let my hair down (but put a hair band on to keep it out of my face) and left my long curly hair to air dry. Then I hurried downstairs...since I'd be walking to school until my new car was shipped from Italy. Lauraine refused to drive me to school which led me to believe that her snootiness just wasn't beginning of the school year stress. I'd let it slide for now. I mean she has no reason to be mad with me.

I grabbed a pop tart on my way out, exited our 3 story mansion, and headed down a short road until I reached the rest of our development. You see being the family we are got us special treatment. We had the largest yard, house, pool, and because of this road here we had privacy.

As I walked down the street I noticed a moving truck and woman trying to force keys into some guy's, presumably her son's, hand. He looked around my age. I could tell he had already ascended I mean he was gorgeous...that kind of beauty is usually a vamp characteristic. The mother finally gave up on the battle of the keys and as I passed the house the boy looked up at me. His dirty blond hair complimented his gray eyes.

"Hey," he called out jogging from his driveway to where I was on the street. "Do you happen to be going to Bolivantic Academy by any chance?" he asked.

"What, do I have a sign written on my head or something?" I said, still carrying some aggression, from having to return to the school in the first place. This guy's probably the only one in this neighborhood who doesn't know I'm human.

'Uh no, I mean of course you go to Bolivantic Academy, everyone here has or does. What I meant to ask was 'Are you on your way there now?'"
I couldn't help but to let out a little laugh. If he was about to ask me what I think he was about to ask me, he's gonna be shark bait. I can see it now 'New kid walking with human'. Well his looks might save him.

"Yea, I am." I said casually.

"Well good, I'll walk with you. I'm Chace by the way." he said holding out his hand while we walked. I looked at it and then turned my attention back to the street.

"All-right-y then," he said a little embarrassed. "So, what's your name?"

"I don't think that's too important." I said. "I mean we won't be walking together again, but once we get to school I'm sure you'll find it out soon enough."

"So you're popular huh?" he asked, I could see the look on his face from the corner of my eyes. He didn't seem to really pay much attention to my walking comment, but I'm sure by the end of the day he'll be fine with it.

"Very." I said with false enthusiasm.

We were now walking down the road to the school. I was pretty fast, but Chace didn't seem to have a problem keeping up.

"It's funny all the rumors you hear about your new town or school." he said. After a moment of silence, he realized I wasn't going to respond. "I mean are any of them true?"

"Are any of what true?" I asked irritated.

"The rumors." he said.

"For example?"

"Like the human. I mean it's not like I can just go ask the Bolivantics. They've gone to do some business stuff with my dad in Russia."

Oh my freaking Jerusalem! He was a direct descendant of one of the 5 founding vamp families. Mom and Dad were going to do business with HIS dad! I mean Lauraine and mom are the only direct descendants of one of the 5 founding vamp families that I know.
I snapped out of my idiotic giddiness when the school came into view.

"I think we should part ways now..." I said with false sadness. "I'm just looking out for you."

"Well I happen to be looking out for me too." he said coolly. "And I don't think walking into school with a beautiful girl on my arm would do much harm to my rep."
WOW. What a charmer (note the sarcasm). Yea whatever he's an Ishlovik, but when did he get a rep?

"On your arm?" I said disgusted. "Hardly..."

He smiled to himself. "So what are you? I mean you've got vamp features for sure." he said as a compliment. "But I can't smell you...so you never know."

By me he meant my blood...some vamps are capable of smelling what kind of immortal you are by the scent of your blood...it's not always accurate. Luckily the school emits a citrus chemical that basically disables this ability to vamps that are capable of it...and being the son of an Ishlovik he must be capable of a lot...I wonder if he can handle public humiliation.

All eyes turned to me as Chace and I entered the office...some were of pure shock, some of disgust, and some actually looked a little scared...I guess of change.
Some girls couldn't help but to look at Chace. I mean he stood there in his button up shirt and faded light blue jeans as if nothing was happening. I saw him give some of the girls a few flirty smiles. Ugh, he probably thought all the stares were for him.
I walked to the front desk and Ms. Mattie, my favorite secretary, gave me a weak smile then handed me my schedule. I didn't even bother to open it.

"Chace Ishlovik." I heard Chace tell Ms. Mattie his name as I headed for the door. She let out a little yelp. Everyone knew who the Ishloviks were. They were right beneath us Bolivantics on the power pyramid.

Two seconds later Chace was behind me again.

" I get the feeling you're trying to ditch me." he said, knitting his eyebrows.

"You've got good intuition." I said slyly.
