Chapter 1/burn baby burn
Rueben

Life was normal for me. Everything was fine, and I was a straight B student, got a lot of chicks, let’s just say I was the operator of the school. And I liked it a lot. Girls fall whenever they see me. A lot of them said they love my glowing green eyes, or my gorgeous dark brown hair that falls just past my eyes. And they love my angel tattoo; I have on my left shoulder. I felt like a god where I’m from, but my mom made me move to Wyoming. Yeah, to the middle of no where, where there are only mountains, and valleys, plains as far as the eye can see. I left everything, and everyone I had ever had; now it’s a fortress trapping me within its threshold trying to devour me piece by piece.
I have a new school, where none of the girl’s are hot at all, but all of them turn on to me. There are no other good looking guys there either to keep them off my case. My life went from handsome operator in Beverly Hills to cute guy in a sea of ugly country folk. My life is going tragically down hill faster than a cheetah in a blender.
~*~
Last month of school in hickory high school, this was the most boringest year ever. The only friend I made was Tim, but he’s not even allowed at other peoples houses.
Wow! Who is that? Piercing red eyes, long dark red hair, and beautiful body figure. Yellow sport’s bra, rainbow necklace, orange short shorts, yellow flip flop’s. The prettiest person ever. It’s almost as if she’s on fire.
“hi.” I couldn’t stop my lips from moving
“Oh, hello.” She said
“Are you lost? No offence or anything but you seem like you are.”
“I’m not sure if it’s polite to talk to someone who you’re not introduced to, so just please leave me alone, alright? Thank you.”
She started walking away, “hey, I’m Reuben, what’s your name?”
She sighed, turned her head then rolled her beautiful eyes, “I’m kawner.”
“Well, Miss Kawner, I noticed that you seemed to have lost your way, so I thought I might help.” I tried to sound sympathetic.
“No thank you, I can manage on my own!”
“Hey, what’s wrong? You must be British or something because you have the accent. Look, I wasn’t trying to offend anyone okay? What’s the matter?”
“I’m Australian, I am lost, I would appreciate any help you could have supplied me with, but I can’t put you in that kind of danger. So goodbye.”
“Wait, what do u mean by danger, I’m a little confused?”
“You already know too much already, so just leave me alone!”
“Again with the yelling,” I grabbed her bag and stuff fell out, “here let me help you with that.”
When I started to though I noticed some really weird stuff. A mini fire extinguisher, a flammable tarp, a burnt pillow, and frozen hot dogs. All put into a slightly burnt bag.
“What is all this stuff?” I said holding up the fire extinguisher
“Follow me, I mean if you’re allowed.”
“Trust me; I’d rather be anywhere, but here.”
She led me out of the back door of the school in the cafeteria. Then across the football field. All the way to a field of wheat. I was getting really freaked out when the wheat started to burn in her path. I tried to avoid the flames left behind. I was wondering why her clothes weren’t burning. Her hair was flaring everywhere, but there was definitely no wind blowing. All these questions I wanted answered right now.
“Where are we going exactly?”
“You’ll see, just wait.”
Finally we came to a halt in front of a huge rock. It smelt like smoke from a bon fire. I could barely see with how bright it was getting.
“Okay take a seat on the rock, and then I’ll tell you my back round. If I can trust you, can I?” she wouldn’t stop staring me in the eye
“You can trust me, just stop staring at me!” I had to yell
“Thank you, now try to get as comfy as the boulder will let, because this story might take a while. Okay, about a couple of months ago weird things began happening to me. It started just happening at night time. I burned my whole entire room; I was surprised the walls didn’t burn with it. My mum obviously found out about it, so I made the excuse that it got too hot and I had my window open so all my things burned, I even showed her the pajamas I wore they were burned in several areas. She asked to see my burns, but I didn’t have any. I didn’t know what was going on, I began to feel frightened. Since I found out that it only happened at night, I started sleeping outside my window, I had my alarm right by my window so I could get up and before my mum got me up. The ground I kept sleeping on though began to darken. Then these strange occurrences started happening during the day too. As you can see whatever I touch it gets destroyed by fire. I don’t how it happened, but.. it did, and it freaked me out! So I told my mum that I had to go to America for a college thing, so then I left to go to America. I traveled across the whole country for someone I could trust, then I found you, well you found me. Why did you talk to me anyway?”
“Well, I think you’re hot.”
“Oh yeah, now I know I can trust you, ha!”
“Hey, but I’m still a little confused on how you got these ‘powers’?”
“Power, and I don’t know.”
“Well I’ll help you, what ever you need.”
“Okay, I need a place to stay, if that’s alright?”
“Oh no, yeah, of course! I think it’s alright with my mom, I mean I might have to nudge her a little, but yeah, you can.”
“You’re babbling a lot, do you have this problem a lot?”
“Uh.. no, I mean I don’t know. Am I?”
“Extremely!”
“Oh!”
“It’s fine I had a boyfriend like you. Where do you live?”
“On Beever Avenue, do you have a boyfriend now?”
She started walking away towards my house; I was surprised she knew which direction. I think I saw her smirk when I asked if she was single or not. I guess I should just stop talking or I’ll really embarrass myself.
Now that I was leading her, I kept looking behind me because I thought that she might run off. Maybe it’s just paranoia or something. I looked back again, she was burning everything in her path, I really didn’t want her to touch me, but I did in a way. I looked back again, she disappeared. I got really worried, I’m frantic. Where is she? Her path of burnt grass stopped two feet away from me. I looked back to where we came, not there.
“Are you coming, stop messing around!” her beautiful Australian accent broke through the filling silence
I didn’t want to say something and have her tease me. So I kept going without a word. I was following her now while I directed where to go. I looked at her butt; it was small, and nice. As I moved down her body with my eyes taking in every curve I finally got to her feet and noticed that the grass wasn’t burning anymore. I got a little confused, where’s the crispy path of debris? It’s like it just disappeared. I could have sworn it was there a minute ago. I looked behind me nothing. What happened to it?
“Uh, you’re burnt out.” That’s the only way I thought I could put without sounding weird.
“What?” Kawner asked
“You’re not burning anymore. I didn’t know if that was a bad thing or not? So I’m just warning you just in case.”
She looked behind her, then turned back around and felt, what I can guess, was her forehead. She spun around with a worried look on her face. Her eyes went fired fed.
“I’m cold!”
“What?”
“Oh no! I’m cold, I’m beginning to freeze! I need to get to your house now! Or I die.”
“What? Uh.. follow me!” I yelled
I ran as fast I could and she stayed with me at a faster pace. I don’t know what my face looks like but I’m sure it’s not good.
“Left!” I shouted
We both turned left on Beever Avenue! She kept freaking out and muttering under breath, ‘I’m going to die!’ she kept me going because of it! I just met the hottest girl here and she’s going to die because it’s too cold. What a great time we had.
“This house right here,” I pointed at my white house, “in the garage!” I yelled again
We sprinted up the four steps and into the green, metal door to end up in the living room. It must have been late, because my mom wasn’t on the couch drinking while watching wheel of fortune.
I hurried Kawner downstairs in the basement to my bedroom. She flung the door open and practically leapt to my bed. She then wrapped all the blankets around her and collapsed onto my blue pillow.
“Can I borrow sweats with a sweatshirt please?” she said
“Yeah!” my voice wasn’t back to its normal volume yet
I speed walked to my closet and opened the door then walked in and grabbed a blue and orange, bears sweatshirt. Then I gave it to her. She quickly slipped it over her head and onto her naked stomach. She pulled the hood over her head, and pulled the strings, then shoved her hands into the pockets.
I went over to my hamper and pulled out some gray sweats that said juvenile on the left pant leg. I placed them on the bed for her. She got up out of her cocoon and pulled the sweats up over her orange shorts. Then she gathered all of the blankets again and wrapped them around herself, and laid down on the bed.
She was turning blue, I ran upstairs to get a hot rag to put on her head. When I got back she was asleep. Her yellow shoes were kicked onto the floor. She was shivering in her bundle. I placed the rag on the end table.
I walked out of my room to go get blankets and a sleeping bag for me to sleep with. I got back and set the sleeping bag in the center of my room. Then I threw all of the blankets on top of it, and I folded one for a pillow to sleep on.
When I was done making my bed, I lifted the opening to the sleeping bag, and slipped in. I fell asleep instantly. All that running made me pooped.
