I slid the door open a bit more, just enough for me to slip out into the hallway.
"What?" I said warily, closing my door, still suspecting a trap.
Without saying a word,Holden grabbed my arm and pulled me downstairs. He may have been a year younger than me, but he was still taller. He already looked fully grown up, with his spiked brown hair, and piercing green eyes. His personality and physical features both reminded me of a cat.
"Laurel!" He said sharply. "Are you paying attention?" He shook my arm, and i noticed we were standing outside the mansion, on the porch. It took me a moment to reallize that i had been thinking about Holden being hot. Ew?
"Look!" He said, sounding annoyed now. "The cars are here. Right?"
I nodded, confused.
"Your parents are gone. And mine are too. They were just here."
"Well," I said, thinking, "They could just be at your house, run over and check, it takes two minutes in wolf form-"
"Done." He said. "It would've taken me longer to notice, except this."
He pulled me back inside, past the dining room, which was fully set and empty, to the kitchen. I gasped as i looked around.
The fridge was tipped on its side, food spilling onto the linoleum floor. The table and chairs were splintered everywhere, one of the legs thrown through the window.
"It must have happened while we were in your room." He said quickly. "It's far enough away from thishere that we wouldn't have heard anything."
I opened my mouth to answer but closed it as i saw his main worry. In the left corner of the kitchen, there was a pool of red liquid, and two handprints.
"Is that, is..." I couldnt speak.
"Blood. I can smell it in wolf form."
I stumbled back into Holden, and he reached out to catch me as i fell.
