Midnight –The Truth
I
started walking towards the big tree that he said to meet me at. School was a blurry I couldn’t really remember what happened during the day. I walked slowly towards the big tree. I was nervous rather than scared. Questions were flying round my head. What if this and what if that. I looked up at the big tree in front of me when I saw something move. I let out a little scream but it wasn’t loud enough for anyone to hear but me. Than Ian walked out.
“Only me.” Ian said with both hands in the air.
Even just seeing he made my heart skip a beat. But I didn’t wanna make me look like I was happy to see him. I didn’t know what to say I went speechless. This is never like me.
“Yeah I see you now.” I said.
“Are you ready? We are going to drive.”
“But I’m here to hear the truth or some shit.”
“Yeah but I wanna take you somewhere it will help you understand better.”
“Okay, okay. It better. I’m still pissed at you.”
“I understand.”
I walked up to his car and got in. He started up his car. And off we went. We went on to the highway and were on the highway for about one hour. He took the exit to Main beach. We went passed Main beach and headed up a new looking road. We got to a house. I didn’t know who’s house or if it was someone’s house. It looked like a three storey house, huge windows and light up drive way; gardens of different flowers; palm trees; and other plants. Ian pulled into a garage behind the house. He turned off his car than looked at me.
“Ready?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be, I guess.”
We walked up a path towards the house. Ian pulled out a set of keys and unlocked the door. He opened the door and inside was amazing. It was looking big on the outside and looks huge on the inside. Windows that touched the roof; timber floors that looked like they were polished every week; white leather couches with blue and green cushions; a dining room table that was a dark wood with twelve chairs around it; the kitchen had an island in the middle of it and cupboards that I wouldn’t be able to reach the top.
“Wow, I don’t know what to say about this house!” I said.
“Yeah I try to make it look good. Wanna tour?” Ian said.
“Sure!”
We walked to a set of stairs. It was also massive on the second floor. There were three doors. We walked up to the first floor. Ian opened the door.
“This is the study.” Ian said.
The study was huge. It had three desks that were big, all of them had a laptop on them ad chairs; there were two book shelves that reached the roof and had no spaces for new books; a rug went across the room.
We walked up the hallway to the second door.
“This is entertainment room.” Ian opened the door as he said it.
It looked like an actual movie theatre. Four rows of seats; a massive screen there was the size of the wall; surround sound system; and a projector. There was a bar type of thing on the right side of the room with different drinks; alcohol; and three bar stools.
We walked to the last room before another set of stairs.
“And this room is one of the guest rooms.” Ian said as we walked up to the room.
I had totally forgotten about why I was here with him. This place was getting even more amazing as we went to each room and I was sure there was more to come when we went up the next set of stairs.
I looked inside the room and there was a king size bed with two bedside draws; with a lamp on the left side one; a bathroom joint onto the room. And the room smelt like flowers. There were fairy lights that went across of the top of the windows.
“Okay onto the next floor.” Ian said.
We walked up the stairs and the third floor looked bigger than the first and second floors. There were four doors.
“The last door on the left is to go up into the storage room which is filled with junk. This room is Philly’s room,” Ian pointed to the right on the right, “This is Nate and Olivia’s room,” Pointing to the second on the right, “And this is my room.” Ian said and opened the door.
I walked in. He had a king size bed, with black and white bed spread and what looked like ten pillows and four other cushions. Windows that touched the roof; black and white curtains that started from the top of the window and stop at the floor. A desk with a laptop on it and surround sound connected to the laptop; with a desk chair at the desk. A book shelf that touch the roof and filled with books.
“Do all the rooms have a king size bed?” I asked pointing at his bed.
“Yep, that would be thanks to Olivia.”
“Who house is this?”
“Mine.”
“Yours? You own this house?”
“Well, technically it is my grandparents but they passed away about four years ago. So, now its mine. And Philly, Nate and Olivia moved in a year after my grandparents passed.”
“I’m sorry to hear about your grandparents.”
“Thanks.” He grabbed my hand and led me across his room.
We stopped at one of the windows. Ian pulled one side of the curtain and pushed open a door. I walked through to the balcony. It wasn’t a window. It was a door.
“Wow. Nice view.” I said.
I could see mountains, forest, and I could hear a river. There was a small table and two chair and there were two candles that had been lit before.
“It is. I like coming out here and just sitting out here when I can’t sleep or something.”
“Oh, nice.”
“I think I better tell you everything. Have you been having strange or confusing dreams lately? And have they basically been the same over and over again?”
“I been having dreams of you and you have been saying that the truth will come. And that you hope it doesn’t change the way I think about you.”
“Okay, the dreams are normal. It happen to Olivia before Nate told her what will happen to her.”
“What is going to happen to me? Is it bad, good, or both?”
“They are a bit of both. I don’t want to scare you away. When I tell what I am about to tell Sweetheart.”
“I can handle it.”
“Okay. The dreams are hints to what I am. I know you have been noticing a white light around me. And you will see a different colour around Nate, Philly and Olivia. We can see the colours around each other and soon you will have a colour around you too.”
“Are the colours like auras?” I said, confused.
“No, they are nothing like auras. The mean what age we are.”
“So you’re not really seventeen?”
“Yep you got that down. Alright, I am no human. I am Vampire Angel.”
“YOU’RE A WHAT!?”
“Vampire Angel. Means I don’t drink human blood. We eat like normal humans, and drink like them too. We live for eternity. And you’re starting to go through the change. You just need one more thing to make it happen.”
“So you, Nate, Philly and Olivia are Vampire Angels? And what is the thing I need to make the change? And what happens if I don’t change?”
“Yep we all are. And if you don’t change you will die. You have turn seventeen which means you have another two weeks to make the change or die. The last thing you need is for someone to basically bite you.”
“So I will die if I don’t change in the next two weeks. And who will bite me? I mean this just seem real.”
“You have got it all correct, Sweetheart. You can take a pick if you want or you can settle for me. That is if you want to change.”
“I don’t want to die!”
“So I’m taking it as a yes you’re going to take the change?”
“Yes! I’m not going to die. But what about my family? Do I have to leave them behind?”
“You don’t have to leave them behind but it is the best thing you can do. You can move here if you like. We have a spear room.”
“Okay, so I have to tell them I’m moving out. And then I can make the change?”
“You can do that if you want.”
“Okay, okay, you’ll bite, right?”
“If that is what you want.” Ian said, trying not to smile.
“Looks like you’re stuck with me.” I smiled.
“I know.” Ian smiled at me.
Ian took me into his arms. I looked up at him cause he was taller than me, I was always correct when I knew that he would change my life.
“Is there anything else I need to know?” I asked.
“I will tell you everything when you are changed.”
We heard a knock on the glass. We turned around and there was a guy. He had short black hair that spiked up and looked like there was a lot of product in his hair. He had amazing blue eyes. He looked about my height. Ian took me by my hand and led me inside.
“Philly Corinne; Corinne Philly.”
“Hi.” I said.
“Hey” Philly said his voice deep.
“What colour do you see around him?” Ian asked.
“Umm,” I looked at Philly; a smile crept onto his lips, “I see a green kind of blue colour.”
“Correct, Philly tell her how old you are.” Ian said.
“I am three hundred and twenty-five years old.” Philly laughed.
“Oh god. You been round for years!” I squeaked out.
“And how old are you Ian?” Philly laughed more.
“Well, Corinne you see a white colour around me. I am almost four hundred.”
I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t believe I will be that ages in years. Philly was three hundred and twenty-five. Ian was almost four hundred. Oh god.
“Corinne, breathe!” Ian said in a voice filled with worry. Philly was standing behind Ian when my vision came clear.
“Is she alright?” Philly asked.
“Yeah I think she is. She was holding her breath.” Ian said.
“Oh that’s right humans basically passed out when they hold their breath.”
“Corinne?” Ian stilled worried.
“I-I think I’m alright now. What happened?” I said.
“You passed out because you weren’t breathing.” Philly said.
“Oh. Sorry.” I said.
“I actually came in to let you know that I gotta get that thing done.” Philly said.
“Okay. I’ll see you.” Ian said.
Ian looked at me worried still. I didn’t want him to worry about me. I was only just not letting air get into my lungs.
“Let’s go. You gotta let your parents now that you’re movin’ out.”
“Yeah we better get that done.”
I got up and we went to Ian’s car. We went back the same way we came and then it hit me. I can’t just go in and wake my parents up and be like oh mum and dad I’m moving have a good life.
“We are going to have to wait till this afternoon. It’s only 4am and they don’t know I went out.” I said.
“Oh we better wait. How about we tell them at lunch time since its Saturday?”
“Yep we will do that. What are we going to do all day?”
“Well we can got to the beach, let you sleep for a bit. Than move you into your new home.”
“Sounds like a plan!” I said.
We hid Ian’s car and went round to my window. I went to bed and basically passed out. I slept for hours. I woke up at one thirty. I woke up to see that Ian had hacked into my computer just to play Solitaire. I laughed at him making him jump.
“Sorry I got bored. Hope it is okay that I hacked your computer. You need an update on this thing.”
“Yeah I know.”
“You’ll meet Olivia tonight. Nate and Philly are going out.”
“Oh okay. Cool.”
“Call you parents. Let them know you’re moving.”
“Okay.”
I grabbed my phone and dialled my dad’s number.
“Hey Dad.” I said when he answered.
“Hey Sweetie.”
“I’m moving out with a friend. You haven’t met him. But they need another room mate. Hope it’s okay. I wanna get out on my own.”
“Are you sure you want to move out? You know me and your mother don’t want you moving. But if it what you want.”
“Yes dad it is what I want. I won’t need my bed or anything only taking stuff that is on my shelves and clothes. I love you Dad.”
“Okay, I love you too Sweetie.”
Than we hung up. I walked back into my room and smiled at Ian.
“Alright I just need to grab my suitcases and pack.”
I went and grabbed my suitcases and started packing. Next thing I know all my clothes were packed and already to go. I looked at Ian in shock.
“Just another awesome thing about being a V.A”
“Sweet as.”
It took ten minutes to pack all my stuff. And out into Ian’s car. We got into the car when Ian said “Now I can show you stuff I’ve been wanting to show you all day.”
“Okay like what?”
“Like we can speed and not get caught. In built speed radar.” Ian said pointing to his head.
“Really?” I laughed.
We went down my street and onto the highway. Ian was doing 140km in a 100km zone and didn’t get caught at all. We got to his house in no time. Ian took off with all my stuff and put it inside and came out and picked me up.
“Ready?” Ian said and winked.
I didn’t even have time to say anything and we were inside. It was like the speed of light. And this is what I am in for. Part of me couldn’t wait to be changed but part of me was scared to say good bye to my old life. My parents won’t ever see me again and my little sister Aimee will never have someone to protect her or to make her happy when she needs a cheering up. I’ll be saying hello to my new life in a couple hours. We were up in my new room when Ian and I started talking about becoming a VA.
“How long will it take for me to change?” I asked him.
“It will take from about three days to two weeks. It will feeling like a fire going through you and you will feel your heart beat fast than it will slow down to a complete stop. I don’t want to scare you about the change but you need to know.” Ian said in a concerned voice.
“And will I know I have been changed when I come out of it?”
“You know. You will feel strange but you will know that you have finally changed into what I am.”
“I think I’m ready.” I gave a half smile.
“We don’t have to make the change for another two weeks. We can get you settle in and you can get to know Olivia, Nate and Philly a bit more.”
“Promise me you will change me when I have five days to go. It should give me enough time to know everyone a bit more and know you a bit more too.”
“Deal. When you have only five days left to make the change, I will change you.”
I smiled. And knew he would keep his side of the deal. I would have to keep my end of the deal or I would die. And I don’t wanna die ever. I wonder what if my look would change or would I stay the same?
“Will I look different?” I asked Ian.
“No. You’re look will change. With you have blonde hair; you will probably end with either dark brown hair or black hair. Your eyes will stay the same colour. And you being pale skinned you will end up with tanned skin. I think we change what we look like when we change because we have to leave our families behind. I know it sucks but I can show you that you will be better off without them cause you won’t have to keep the secret from them every day.” Ian said.
“Okay, I’ll have to work on not having a family.”
“You will have a family. Nate, Philly, Olivia and myself count each other as family. And Olivia will be happy to finally have a sister. Well not really but you know what I mean.”
“When do I get to meet Olivia?”
“Hung on, I’ll see if she is home yet. I’ll be back.” Ian said.
Then I was alone. I waited for more than ten minutes before Ian was back.
“Okay she is home. And she’ll be here in five… four… three…two…one.”
Just after Ian said one I heard a knock on the door and then the door open. Olivia. She walked in with like a bounce. She had platinum blonde that sat above here lower back and had a French manicure down. She had dark brown eyes. She was just a little bit taller than me.
“Hey Corinne!” Olivia said.
“Hey.”
“Ian your time to leave buddy! I and Corinne are getting to know each other.” Olivia smiled at Ian.
“My queue to leave.” Ian kissed my forehead and walked out.
“So, you ready to be a VA? Or you scared or what?” Olivia said.
“I don’t know if I am scared or happy or what. I guess we will find out soon. When I have five days to go Ian will be changing me.”
“Okay, gives you time to accept the fact that you can’t have anything to do with your family anymore and get to know myself and Ian and Philly and Nate.”
“Yeah it does. Who changed you?”
“It was Philly who changed me. It was on my seventeenth birthday. I knew Philly way before my seventeenth and I knew what he was. Probably because he knew that he was going to change me by the age of seventeen. I guess it was good that I wasn’t tight with my family. I remember I was never really popular with people but I knew a lot of people before I was changed. Philly is still my best friend till this day. I basically did the same thing you did but I didn’t wait I just went for it cause I didn’t like my human life. So it’s a good thing I guess.” Olivia said.
“So what actually happen? How did you meet Philly? And how did you get with Nate?”
“Okay, let me start from the start. It might take a while to get to the end but I’ll try my best to remember for you,” Olivia smiled, “It was the year nineteen-ninety-eight, I had just started at the new school I was at and Philly was in my sign-in class. I was like a little kid meeting someone for the first time. I was really nervous as you are when you do something new, I got told to sit next to Philly and for some reason my feeling of nervousness went away, Philly was like my rock in school;
A few weeks went passed and year ten was a breeze cause I knew most of the stuff in school. I was smart, and I am still smart. Philly and I were starting to get really close as in friends and we did everything together, we did weekly movie sessions. Every time I was with him I was happy and it was like he took all my problems away.
A few months later my birthday came and I was having strange, confusing dreams. Philly took me to this beautiful place up in the mountains for a birthday present and that when he told me about Vampire Angels, explained all my dreams, explained why I was seeing colours and explain to me what he can do. I’ll leave that part for Philly to explain to you what he can do, it’s great. So that night when he explained to me what a VA was, he asked me if I wanted to change right there and then or wait like you’re doing.
I decided that I would change that night on my birthday, I didn’t take any of my things until I knew everything I could, eleven days went by and on the next day I woke from changing.
Philly explained everything I could do and helped me practice. Once I had everything down pat, I went back to where I used to live and took a photo of me and my family. And me and my best friend, Philly. And that’s my story. Not much details ‘cause I can’t really remember much.”
“Oh wow. You story is good. It will help me.” I smiled at Olivia.
“Oh, really?! Yay!” Olivia said.
“What colour was you hair?”
“It was jet black. I don’t even know how it would have gotten this blonde. I know it changes when you make the change it’s really weird but I love it.”
“That is weird.” We both laughed when Philly walked into the room.
“Grubs up girlies!” He said smiling.
We both laughed and walked down stairs with our arms hooked. It was like we known each other for years.
“Don’t you two look like sisters.” A guy I haven’t seen before. I guess it would be Nate.
“We will be more than just sisters, we will be BEST sisters!” Olivia said walking over and giving the guy a kiss.
“I’m Nate and you must be Corinne.” Nate said.
“Hey.” I said.
“Sweetheart you can sit here.” Ian said walking over to two chairs.
We all sat at different ends of the table. Nate and Olivia sat together. While Philly sat at the head of the table. Ian and I sat together. We sat around the table for about two hours, just chatting and getting to know mainly me a bit better. I was starting to feel really comfortable with everyone. I was going to like it here. After dinner Olivia and Ian cleaned up.
“Do you wanna clean and get ready for bed or whatever?” Ian asked.
“Yeah would be great.” I said.
“Okay I’ll be back.” Ian said and took off.
“Okay.” I said in a quiet voice.
“Okay here is your towel and everything else you need is in the shower you can use my bathroom.” Ian said and took me into his arms and up to his room.
I walked over to his bathroom and turn on the water. Letting the warm water run down my body. For the first time today I actually felt exhausted. I washed my hair than my body. I sat on the shower floor and let the water go over my head. I must have been in the shower for an hour or so. I finally decided that it was time to get out. I got out and wrapped the towel around myself. I got dressed and dried my hair. I put my hair into a fishtail braid and walked out.
The room was empty and quiet. I lay down on Ian’s bed. I stared at the roof for a while and I must have fallen asleep. Cause I started dreaming. My dream was just of a forest and a beautiful river. I was by myself lying down in the grass. I just stared at the sky than my dream started fading when I heard voices near me. One voice I knew. Ian’s voice and I heard another voice I never heard before. It was deep not as deep as Philly’s but it was almost there. I rolled onto my side. And they both stop talking. I let my eyes open and looked at Ian. Ian smiled. I pinched myself to make sure I was dreaming. OUCH! I thought to myself. I wasn’t dreaming anymore. I looked at the other person. He was staring at me. I looked at Ian again in confusion.
“Hi there, Corinne.” He whispered at me.
I just stared at him. I didn’t know what to say or what to think. I had no idea who he was or why he was here. I sat up.
“I’m Evan. I’m the King of Vampire Angels. I come to meet you.” Evan said.
“Corinne, it’s alright. He isn’t going to hurt you. He came to talk to us.” Ian said.
“Hello.” I said.
“I come to talk about what is going to happen after you make the change. Ian has told me that he has explained how you will feel during and after the change. After you have changed and you are three weeks old, I will come back with a gift for you.” Evan said to me.
“Okay.” I said.
“I must leave now. I have to visit a few others. Good day Ian. Good day Corinne.” Evan said.
Ian shaked Evan’s hand and then bowed. Evan walked over and kissed my hand. He walked passed Ian and said something and walked out.
Ian walked over and jumped up into his bed.
“Morning Sweetheart. How did you sleep?” Ian asked.
“Actually I slept well. Your bed is comfy.” I smiled.
“That’s good. I came up here last night and found you in my bed.” Ian said.
“Sorry. I must have been more exhausted than I thought.” I laughed.
“It’s okay. I just slept on the couch.” He pointed at the couch in the corner that I didn’t see when I came in.
“You should have moved me.” I said.
“Didn’t want to disturb you.” Ian smiled.
“Oh. Okay. I wouldn’t have mind.”
“Come on least go out. We will go for breakfast than go hit up the beach.”
“Alright, I’ll go get dressed.”
I got out of Ian’s bed and went down stairs and headed to my room when Olivia popped out of nowhere.
“OH MY GOD!” I jumped.
“Sorry didn’t mean to scary you.” She laughed
“It’s okay.” I smiled and kept walking. Olivia kept walking with me.
“What are you up to tonight?”
“Umm, nothing that I know of.”
“Good! We are going out.”
“Where we going?”
“Shopping spree. Than we are going to come back here get dressed up and then we are going out, all night. If you can make it.” Olivia said and winked at me as she walked off.
“I think I can.” I said to myself.
I walked into my room and went to my closet. “What the…?!”
My closet was full of clothes. All my old clothes were gone, which didn’t bother me cause my old clothes were shit. I pulled out a dress; skin tight? Why do I have skin tight clothes? Olivia? That’s weird. I wonder if she would hear me if I screamed her name, I wondered to myself.
“OLIVIA?” I yelled. And next thing I know Olivia is in my room.
“Did you do this to my closet?” I pointed at my closet.
“Maybe I did.” She laughed.
“And why is everything skin tight?” I looked at her.
“Because you and I have the bodies to wear skin tight and these out fits will go good with your make over. This, by the way, will be happening after you get back from the beach with Ian.”
“And when did you decide this?” I laughed.
“Well, I spoke to Ian last night about it since you still sleep and all. And he said it would be a good idea and we can bond more. So, we are shopping, doing your make over and then off to paint the town pink!” Olivia smiled.
“Okay. Sounds like fun. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
Olivia hugged me and whispered “You won’t regret this.”
