“I don’t think that she’ll remember. We’ll place her in a home under monitored conditions. She’ll believe whatever we make her believe. Abuse?”

“No, we can’t do that. She’ll see through it.”

            “She’s waking up.”

I wish I could understand these dreams. No wonder I toss and turn. Ah, well, it’s just another night of sleeplessness. Luckily I can play it off as something else. I know I won’t sleep tonight, so I must come up with something to do. Um… I typed up the case files. I can’t think of anything else. AH! A movie! I know I have some.

As Lila walks towards her entertainment center, I laugh. She’s so innocent, and her undeniable sense of insecurity was easily detected. I am her true mother, and my name is Laurie. To make a long story short, I’m neither human nor inhuman. I am watching my daughter grow up and become a beautiful young woman. I am only allowed to watch her, never make contact with her. I know her thoughts, her everything, and I can’t even communicate with her and answer all of her questions. I’ve watched her since the day she was born and taken from me. I wasn’t an unfit mother or anything like that, I was taken from my home, impregnated, and forced to have government tests done on my body and unfortunately Lila.

Lila was an innocent child, and after taking her from me, they just continued the tests on both of us. I later escaped, and took her with me. They were altering her memories so that she would believe she was a foster child. I had to give her up to save her. If they found her they would just turn her back into a lab rat.

I laid her on the porch of the Gordon family. I had watched many families through the testing facilities, and this family seemed the most honest and predictable. I didn’t realize that they weren’t able to have children and were trying to do anything possible for a child; little did I know that my little Lila would become their dream fulfilled. I was happy at first, but I could never avoid the security measures. After about three years, I stopped by and talked to Mrs. Gordon. I explained to her that Lila was my daughter, and all I wanted was to be able to keep an eye on her and be sure she was safe. She just simply asked me why I left her with them instead of taking care of her. I just explained that I didn’t have a place for her to live and I did what I felt was best.
