I sat on the bench outside the school, listening to music, waiting for my mother. It had to be about seventy degrees.Slowly the cars emptied out of the parking lot, but still no sign of my mum.
It wasn't like I HAD to get picked up by my mum. I could just walk home. So thats what I did.
It took me about fifteen minutes to get home. Only cause I walked slowly. When I walked through the door, I heard the tv on in the living room.
"Mum..?" I called, walking into the living room.
No response.
I'd started thinking maybe she'd just gone to pick me up. But the tv? That was unlike her.
I took out my phone, and sent mum a quick text saying I was home.
I went upstairs to change my clothes, seeing how it was a million degrees, and my jeans felt so tight, that they left nothing to the imagination...
I'd gotten all the way up the stairs, when I noticed a red stain at the landing. I bent down and stared closely. Blood. What the hell? I followed a thin trail of blood, to my mums bedroom. What I saw as I walked in, would follow me to the grave.
The monster was about nine feet tall, even hunched over. It was white. But not a smooth white. It was yellow-white. Like it never bothered bathing. It looked skinny an hungry.
It had long, long, sharp claws. They were shiny and wet with blood.
It looked up, as I walked in the room. Though I can't be sure it SAW me. It didn't have eyes. Just black pits.
Slowly, I tried to back out of the room, but the monster was there in a flash. It leaned close to my face. Opened its mouth, panted in my face. It's teeth we're thick, and sharp. And scary as hell.
My heart went wild, pounding all over my chest. I could feel my blood pulsing in every part of my body. It leaned back, on it's knees, and I stared at it. I could tell, by the guilty look on its face, it had killed my mother. It was a beast, a monster. It had devoured my mother to satisfy itself.
But though I saw the bad side in this monster, I also saw its better side.
It didn't want, or mean to, kill my mum. It wanted to know good, and peace. It was revolted by the blood on its claws and teeth. It just wanted rest. No more violence. Only if it did justice.
And I could teach it.
I could teach it kindness, and love! I would show it other ways to satisfy its hunger, without killing. I slowly walked toward it, my hand outstretched. It leaned in and smelled my hand, then rubbed it's bald head against it.
She.
"It" was a she. I knew right away.
My hand still on her forehead, I saw things the way she did. Experienced her memories. And felt the way she did.
I could tell the same thing was happening to her. She was seeing the things I'd gone through. Like when the football team chased me down, and beat me up. When my dad died. When I passed ninth grade, even though I was sure I was gonna fail.
I rubbed my hand in little circles on her forehead.
"Whats your name, huh?"
said a soft, honey sweet voice in my head.
"Thats a beautiful name." I answered.
"Well, let's make you gorgeous. What would you say to a bath?"
it was kinda creepy how she knew my name...
"No problem," I said.
Two hours later, and several sessions with Luna in the bathtub, she was clean.
Her claws devoid of blood. The spines and wings, I hadn't noticed earlier were shining.
Luna said for the tenth time.
"Anytime, Lune. I love to help monsters." I smiled.
Looking at her, her white skin gleaming, her spikes sparkling, I realized how beautiful she was.
I didn't know what I was doing, until afterwards, but I couldn't stop. I reached my hand forwards and grabbed onto one of the spines on her neck. Heaving myself up, I sat in between two spikes on her back.
She seemed startled at first. But calmed down a moment later.
Luna spread her enormous wings, and took off without warning. Bringing me into the sky, screaming, and holding on for dear life.
