Somewhere in England, high up in the mountains, a smooth cliff face broke open and a creature tumbled out of it and lay on its side, panting and regaining its limbs. It was surprised that its muscles hadn't wasted away by now, but that was magic for you:It protected one from even hundreds of years of sleep. Sitting up, the creature looked out over the hills. Human settlements were still there,  changed, but there. Of course-they were the Creator's speacil pet project, why would They destory the humans? But things were diffrent now, surely. The creature could taste it in the very air with their forked tounge: More soot, more yucky stuff was in the air, as well as hundreds of new strange scentes that didn't exsist a long time ago. On top of that, other scentes were lacking: Therwe was far less wood, far less metal toasted in blacksmith shops and less blood and death. Odd, humans normally dropped dead every day from plague, war, and exposure-what was so diffrent this time? Hmm, now the creature could smell the farms, and was amused to smell more and healthier crops and animals. Had humans finally mastered earth magic? Well, it was too early to hope for that much; humans rarely changed.

Finally, the creature sat up and got onto its fours, shaking its long, powerful, purple-scaled body awake, and strode over to the cliff side, slowly turning its horned head about to stare down at the kingdom. Less fear, that was the most important thing; Humans were not terrified, in spite of the sun going down in the west now. Back before the creature went to sleep, humans would practiclly run in panic for their homes when such a bloody red sun set occured, for the night was something to be feared. How long at the creature been sleeping for the humans to gain such courage against Night, their original enemy?

No matter, they would find out soon enough.

The creatue lifted its head, then began to make a gesture in its throat, something like a cough or clearing of the throat. Its wings jerked and fluttered in extersion, and it clutched the rocks with its massive claws as it became on the verge of hacking. The creature settled down, holding its head against its long neck like a swan, as if talking mentally to its own throat.

Come on, it seemed to be saying, Come on, of all the things you may have forgotten in that sleep, don't forget this!

The creature opened its large gold eyes as it felt the heat building in its throat. Yes!

It reared its head back, opened its fanged jaws wide, then streatched his neck out to its full extent and roared in triumph even as a jet of flame burst from its mouth, a flame that had not burned in nearly 1600 years, a flame that danced and leaped and petted the air eagerly. The sun set became a wave of gold and blood behind the creature, the creature swung its head from side to side, then pointed its head straight upward, rediscovering another talent of its fire:Manipulation.

The jet of living lames danced and spun about, creating the glorious replica of a dragon, its owner, roaring in triumph, then suddenly melting together and bursting from these flames, a bird with shining orang, red, and yellow feather flew, screeching and cawing like a warrior hawk taking its first flight into battle. Screeching, the bird burst into flame, but was unharmed, as it flew towards the sun set and the dragon broke off its flame, lowering its head and smiling, then looked to the darkening sky and spread its wings.

It was time to fly again.
