"I'm home." I shouted to my mom as I walked in the house from another terrible day. "Great." my mom says sarcastically. I don't remember when, but as long as I can remember, my mom has never been the loving kind, when it came to me. I think it is because she blames my dad leaving us is all because of me. But I was only one at the time, so I don't know what I did. "Hey Flower." I said to my beutiful cat who was a sleep on my window seat. She shot her head up at the name of her voice and she jumped onto my bed in one quick jump. She purred, which is the only thing she can say. I don't know why but she never meows or hisses, not even when my mother is around, but she does have a 'drop dead now' look in her eyes when Mom comes in the room. "How is my girl." I said petting her fur that felt like a flower petal. She purred louder. I smiled and got off of the bed. Then I wen't into my closet. "Okay, which uniform should I wear today at work?" I ask her putting them on the bed. I know it sounds weird and all, but this cat is a genious at styles. After her smelling them twice she circled over the purple one, which meant 'this one is the best for today'. I smiled. "Perfect." I smiled and hung the green one up. While I got my uniform on Flower jumped off of my bed and wen't into my closet bringing out my skates and a extra pair of shoes. I smiled at her. "Thank you." I said putting the shoes on and holding the skates. Then we both ran down stairs. "I'm going to work Mom!" I yelled. I heard a grunt and rolled my eyes. Then me and Flower walked out of the house and to the bus stop. I know what you are thinking, why dosn't your mom drive you? Or, why do you need a job? Well the answer to that is, my mom dosn't really give me enough to eat, or any money at all. So I have to go to work to get money for food not only for me, but Flower too. When we got to the bus stop, some guys in cars drove by, some whistling. I rolled my eyes, and I could see the look in Flowers green eyes that said, 'if you lay one finger on her, you are dead fish'. I smirked at her. Then my stomach growled, and when she looked up at me her gaze changed to seriousness and love. I sat down next to her on the bench. "You have fun today?" I ask petting her. She purred, and it looked like she was nodding her head. Then I stroked her from the head to the tail, something she loved. I have done it on other cats too, and they loved it just as well, so I think to myself that I am the only one in the world who knows how to and just knows to do this. "Hey Marley." I said walking onto the bus after it stopped infront of us. "Hey Pearl. How is my favorite girl?" she asks taking my two dollars I got from yesterdays job. "Me. Even though you are the second." I said gesturing to Flower who wen't to our seat that we always get on. "How are you holding up?" she asks closing the bus doors. Other than Flower and the people who see me beaten or see my bruises I get from my mother, Marley knows my whole story. I don't know how, but I blurt it out when she asked me about my black eye and wanted to know how I got it. "Well, I got a football thrown at my head by the jocks, someone 'accidently' opened their locked door and hit my face, and the pops teamed up on me again, and that Mom has hit me only twice today with a bat and not havind lunch or breakfeast. I'm fine." I said listing off only the minys. She nodded. The one good thing I like about Marely, is that she never tells anothers secret, unless you pay her to tell you, you can say that this is the worst town in history. Actually, there is a record in a book somewhere that says 'Kendun, most criminal town of the past three years.' and that was only from last year. Also with those really bad people in town, they don't take the bus, instead they will steal a car or something like that. So, that is why Flower is aloud on and why me and Marely actually know so much about eachother. "And how are you today?" Marely asks as Flower lyes down on a bed that Marely had put up on the right side of her wheel. Flower purred, as Marely rubbed between her ears. After a few more minutes my stomach growled again. "You wan't a banna before you get out?" she asks showing me one that was in her hand. I nodded, knowing I can take anything from her. After fifteen more minutes we pulled up to Benson's Bergurs. "Good luck Pearl. I will be back around seven." she said opening the doors. I nodded. "Will do." I said with a smile. When me and Flower got to the back of the diner's doors, Benson was waiting for us with a smile. "There is my Pearl and her kitten." he said giving me a tight hug and petting Flower softly. Flower purred, and then walked to her tiny day bed in a corner that me and Benson put on. He too knows about my life, but isn't one of the people who like me, it seems hard to believe since of what he just did, but he only does things like that when he needs something that he can't do himself or something I won't like, again bad town. "What is it you need now?" I ask raising an eyebrow. Then his smile vanishes and turns into a serious frown. "I need you to go to table three and take their orders." he said. I looked through the door window at table three and saw the pops. I groaned, told you it was something I wouldn't like, and since no one else was here and Benson was cooking, I had to take orders, so he couldn't do it. "Fine." I said grabbing a pen and pad, then putting on a fake smile. "Hi and welcome to Benson's Burgers, \what can I get you to drink?" I ask when I got up to them. I saw that it wasn't all of the pops, just the main ones and two of their boyfriends. Yuck, that word feels bad in my mouth. Mostly because you can say, I have never experinced love, or not since I was one, with my mom and dad's, before he left. After most of them ordered, the queen barbie was looking over the menue. "What is it that dosn't have fizz, carbs, or anything that will add pounds to me?" she asks. "Well Alex, you have three choices, water, water, or water?" I ask her with a smirk, knowing that this is ticking her off, just by looking at her face. I know this will totally sound weird, but me and Alex used to be the best of friends. In second grade and she heard of my dad and moms divorce, thanksfully that is all she knows, she was always by my side to make me happy and all of that other junk. But when we hit the first year in middle school she became who she is now, Queen Alex, of the Barbies. "We can always get you something on the way home." Ethan said with a sneer. I rolled my eyes. "I will just take the water." Alex said rolling her eyes. I rolled my own, wrote it on my notepad and then walked back into the kitchen. I handed the paper to Benson. He read it and nodded. Then Flower came up to me with my skates in her mouth. I hit my forehead. I forgot about the rest of my uniform. I quickly put them on, because I don't think Benson had noticed yet. "Here you go." he said handing me a tray with the five cups on them. I nodded taking them. I then walked out with five straws and my pad. "Here you all go." I said and handed them all their drinks. They all frowned and looked at me with the look that Flower would give my mom when she walked in. I gave them the same look but with my fake smile. "What can I get you all to eat?" I ask grabbing the pen and pad. Then I saw all of them look at Alex who shook her head. "We just wan't the drinks." Paula said with a sigh. I nodded, and walked back into the kitchen and then grabed the bill that was on the counter, after I typed it up. Then I grabed four buns and put them in a bag. I walked out of the kitchen and handed the check to Alex. While she was looking at the prices I handed the bag over to Paula who nodded her head with that same look. I now know what you are thinking, why are you helping them if they are so mean to you? Well I am nothing like them, trust me, I have a heart somewhere unlike these losers. Later that day, at seven I walked out with Flower. "How was work today?" Marley asked opening the doors for me. "I had to serve the pops today and then wash all of the dishes." I said and then shivered at the word dishes, those things are icky after people eat off of them. You know, with some people licking it, some people having left over food on it and all of that other junk. Then Marely scrunches up her face. "That sounds bad." she said. I nodded. When I got into my house, I walked over to the fridge and grabed a Dr. Pepper, my favorite type of coke, and yes it is a coke and not a pepsi, and yes cokes and pepsies are not the same. "Mom I'm home!" I shouted, but I didn't get my usual reply. I raised an eyebrow at a lingering Flower. When I got up to the stairs I saw bloody foot steps. I then ran to my mom's room and saw my mom lying down on the floor with a knife in her heart. I shrieked, dropped my soda on the carpet, and ran back downstairs and grabed the home phone, cause I don't have a cell phone. I dialed nine one one, with tear running down my face. "Hello?" the operator asked. "I need a ambulance, my mom was murdered." I said through tears. "Okay I will send them. Tell me where you live and who you are." she said. "I am Pearl Oliver, and I live on the twenty third street of huntsville." I said. "Okay, thank you for the information. Now tell me what happened." she said. Then I told her that I was just walking into the house, when my mom didn't answer my question. After awhile of silence, I heard sirens. "I have to go, they are here." I said. "Okay, and I am so sorry for your loss." she said then the phone wen't dead, which meant she hung up. I opened the door to a knock. I allowed the ambulance people in and showed them upstairs. They knew exactly where to go, after they saw the bloody foot steps. When they left with my mom, they left me in the house alone. When I closed the door, I slid down the wall and started balling. I know that most of it wasn't for her deat, cause it wasn't. Nope, most of it was for me having to go to my next gardian, the one I havn't seen since I was one. That is right, my dad.
