Bare naked trees and withered grass painted the eerie landscape. Two pale moons hid behind thick black clouds of old fires. The wind echoed the cries of long ago lives. It was the remains of the great city ShadowSong. Suddenly, a booming roar invaded the grey skies. A large winged beast appeared amongst the wind. Rotten blue scales covered the massive creature. Its grey sunken eyes scanned the desolate scenery. At last, the dragon spotted what appeared to be a small moving shadow behind a boulder. A piercing screech thundered from the beast’s mouth.
The shadow emerged from its shelter and began running towards a forest of dead trees. The dragon chuckled loudly and dived towards the frantic shadow. A jet of green flames erupted from its mouth and consumed the shadow’s body. The shadow screamed horrible and dropped to the floor. The dragon watched in pleasure as the shadow kicked wildly in agony. The smell of singed skin filled the air, followed by liquefied meat and fresh tendons. All that was left was a neat pile of bones. The dragon chuckled again but softly.
Another moving shadow caught the dragon’s large eyes. It spun around wildly only to find a blood soaked mutilated corpse standing by. “Eru!” gasped the beast in shock. The corpse’s head raised itself upwards and stared. The dragon felt uncomfortable for he was peering into cold merciless eyes that have witnessed the slaughter of a thousand lives. Eru raised his hand. It shock violently as the hand struggled to remain in the air. The dragon bowed down in fear, careful of not upsetting the cold spirit. “Dragon, did you know that a couple of creatures left ShadowSong before I destroyed it?” Eru asked in a low deep voice. The beast grunted in annoyance.
It had been several centuries since he had seen ShadowSong live and well. He pained himself in an attempt to recall long ago history. “No but if they have, I know of a place they could have gone” replied the nervous beast. A smile crept over Eru’s disfigured face, “ahh” The dragon raised his head and began weaving history’s most cruel moments.
“A realm exists; the very same one that the Order of Eden had previously banished one of the elemental dragons to. I believe that it is now inhabited by the survivors of ShadowSong” “Is that so?” asked Eru interested. He coughed a dry laugh. The dragon nodded in agreement and wondered why Eru had laughed in such a manner.“Do you know how to get there?” asked Eru dryly. The dragon nodded again. “Well?” said Eru impatiently. “Oh” the dragon said feeling embarrassed, “the portal only opens when the moons of ShadowSong form and eclipse with the sun”
The spirit walked towards the charred remains of the man that the dragon killed and said “very well then. Being that it is only two days away, I think it would be courteous of us to remind my beloved citizens who their king is. And I will bring them here to perish like their once before city like the good citizens they are” The dragon turned away in discomfort and could only imagine what Eru had planned for Earth’s future.
