Chapter 2
Training
“Welcome to Boot Camp you sissies!” A tall muscular man with a crew cut said, as he paced in front of the 10 wizards. He was wearing a plain white singlet and green commo pants, his guild emblem was easy to see embossed on his arm. His guild mark was white, scale, on green, hand.
“While you are here you will learn what it takes to be a member of the Justice Hand guild, what is required to be done, how you should act and while you’re at it know how to train to become stronger!” The man continued, when a women with beautiful green hair came walking in. Her long green dress flowing around her legs like a cool mountain stream swirling around stones. Her guild mark was nowhere to be seen.
“Why are shouting like that Mason? It is highly annoying, and what is this about a Boot Camp?” Jane looked at the man and smiled sweetly, but she had a tone of voice that made it sound like she was warning him, as Jessica sweat drops.
“I was trying to make it sound hard.” The man known as Mason whined, making Kalin snickered.
“What do you find so funny, boy?” Mason went straight back to the yelling, making Jane’s eyebrows twitch in anger.
“If you don’t be quiet, you will wake him up….” Mason’s face was filled with terror, as Jane left the room muttering under her breath.
“Ok maggots, time for you to introduce yourselves.” He yells in a very quiet voice, as he turns to the first one on the left.
“Starting with you.” He said to the young man with dirty, and I mean dirty, dirty blond hair. He wore a light yellow coat that came down slightly past his waist with a lightning bolt on each side; he wore large knee high boots and had a large stud in one ear. His guild mark was hidden from view, so Jessica couldn’t see it.
“Tyson’s my name and lightning magic is my game. I come from the town of Olika near the border of The Dark lands and Nervial. My brother Tyler and I came to this city to start a new life in this guild after the town was destroyed by The Horde” The boy who looked about Jessica’s and Kalin’s age said without much emotion.
“Interesting, so I am guessing you’re…” Mason looked over at the nearly identical boy next to Tyson. However this boy was wearing an immaculate white blazer with an ice blue snowflake pattern on the trim, white slacks and neat highly polished shoes. His guild mark was white, scale, on blue, hand, and was on the palm of his right hand.
He pushed is neat glasses up higher on the bridge of his nose “Yes, I am this loudmouth’s twin brother, Tyler Landseer.” The boy with clean dirty blond hair said, as he made an ice sculpture of a bird in his hand.
“But unlike him, I use Ice Magic.” He added, making it disappear.
“Watcha call me, Frosty?” Tyson looked at him angrily, as Tyler looked at him angrily and replied.
“You heard me Lightning Breath.” The boys grabbed the scruffs of both their, yellow and white respectively, shirts when Mason bangs their heads together.
“He doesn’t like fighting between guild mates, so I highly recommended you don’t.” Mason’s voice was filled with fear as he said that and turned to the next person in line.
“Ok so you, the girl next to Tyler, you’re next.” Mason pointed at the girl, as she looked down shyly. Her long brown hair covering her face and her light pink blouse. Beneath the blouse she wore a red skirt that came to her knees. Small ballet flats covered her petite feet. Her guild mark was the same colour as Kalin’s and was on her left knee.
“My name is Pepper; I use Healing Magic and Support Magic.” Mason’s jaw dropped in surprise to the girl with long brown hair’s response.
“Healing Magic? That’s quite rare! But I must ask, how did you defeat Cody without fighting magic?” Jessica looked at her curiously, when she looked down at the ground.
“Cody doesn’t like fighting girls, so he only tested my loyalty…” Jessica thought about that realising that Cody never looked like he wanted to fight her in the first place, even when he thought he had defeated Kalin.
“Enough chatter, anything else you would like to tell us?” Mason asked making Pepper shake her head for no, which made her long brown hair whip around.
“Ok then you, the one next to Pepper. Tell us about yourself” The boy next to Pepper perks his head up, realising he was being talked to. His longish spiky brown hair bounced around his handsome face, which had a light shading of stubble on his jawline. He wore a sky blue coat with a white fur trim and pants the colour of thunder clouds; he wore high topped sneakers with a wing insignia on the side. He also had a light scar over his left eye. He had a scythe tied onto his back and his guild mark couldn’t be seen.
“Ummm I don’t know my name or where I came from; all I know is that I use Air Magic and that some people call me Ares when they see me. I thought joining the guild would help me find out about my past.” Ares said, with a hint of sadness in his tone of voice, as Jessica looked like she was about to cry.
“Ok, so next please.” Mason had tears running, or rather gushing like a waterfall, down his face when he said this, making Jessica’s jaw drop after all it wasn’t that sad.
“And we’re the sissies how?” She wanted to say, but didn’t want to in case he snapped at her.
A girl with long violet hair started to speak, but not before Tyler and Tyson had begun to fight again.
They stopped when they felt an incredible magical power pressure coming from behind the door, as the door came smashing past them.
In the doorway stood a man with spikyish red hair, he had a red sweatshirt, which showed off his lean and chiselled muscles, and matching red sweatpants that showed off his muscular legs and eyes that gave Jessica the creeps.
The eyes were a blood red colour that gave Jessica the impression that he could see right through her.
But the scariest part had to be the dark blood red aura that surrounded him.
“What is with this entire fricking noisy racket in here? I can’t sleep in this noise!” The man yelled, bringing his fist up which showed his mark in a deep red, almost blood red and it was the scale, on top of a scarlet, which is the hand, colour.
“Maxie! Crap!” Mason ducks for cover away from the pissed off man known as Maxie, when Jane entered through the side door.
“Oh now wh-“ But she stopped when she saw Maxie in the doorway.
“Oh. You woke him up.” She said, with a sweat-drop going down her head.
“Great work.” Jane smiles sweetly and adds, as she throws something at Mason.
“Why did you wake him up?” She yells sweetly, as Maxie looks at her incredibly pissed off.
“Umm Jane, do something!” Mason yells, as the ground started to shake from his aura.
“Why me? You know I don’t stand a chance!” She yells back, this time sounding annoyed, the aura getting thicker.
“Hey, he reminds me of Cody.” Jessica realises, as he looks at her.
His aura quiets down a tad, making his hair fall flatter.
Maxie could’ve sworn she looked like….
“And you are?” He asks politely, his eyes still cold and emotionless-unless you count his anger of course.
“Umm my name is Jessica, your brother passed us. And you’re Maxie Firestorm.” His eyes widen for a moment, before going back to normal.
“How did you come to that conclusion?” Mason asked, still looking like he would piss himself.
“Simple, he looks like Cody and I have been trying to remember where I heard Cody Firestorm before; and then it hit me. The infamous twin brothers of Justice Hand, Cody ‘Red-hot’ and Maxie ‘Mental’ Firestorm!” Jessica declared dramatically, as the girl with purple hair eyes widened.
“Plus you also said Maxie, and the only Maxie which came to mind was Maxie Firestorm.” She added, making Kalin laugh.
Maxie had completely quieted down now, as Mason started to look more composed again.
Maxie’s face was covered in a shadow by his hair, and then he left the room awkwardly.
Jane’s beautiful face cracked a smile, realising what was going on, before leaving as well.
Mason turned to the purple haired girl, trying to act as through nothing happened.
But it wasn’t working, as you could easily tell that he was still scared.
“I believe you were next…” He said, still scared stiff.
“Well my name is Kate, and I use Light Magic.” She said, waving her hand while it was glowing. The frills around the neckline of her white and purple dress bounced and fluttered, the trim was entirely lace and there was an insignia of a unicorn on the front of the dress. Her guild mark was easily seen on her left forearm and was the same colour as her dress, so a white scale on a purple hand.
“Wow, that’s pretty cool.” Kalin whispers to Jessica, as she just nods in reply.
“I joined this guild to meet someone, and I won’t stop till I do.” She adds, as Mason nods.
“Ok good so unless you have another else to say, next please.” Mason looks at the 6th in line, as the girl looks at him weirdly. Her wild orange hair reminded Jessica of a wildfire, her long baggy pants were a light orange and her tank top was a deeper orange. Her orange, scale, and red, hand, guild mark was proudly displayed on her neck.
“What?” Mason looks at her, as she does some hand signals.
“I don’t understand speak up.” Mason keeps saying like the idiot he is.
“I. SAID. SPEAK. UP.” Mason repeats slowly and loudly as the girl facepalms.
“Oh I get it.” Jessica says, much to everyone else’s surprise and quickly adds.
“She’s dumb.” Mason looks bewildered at her, making Jessica nervous.
“It is not nice to call your fellow guild members stupid!” Mason yells at her, as she facepalms.
“No not dumb, but dumb you idiot. You know, as in mute.” Jessica explains to the idiot, as he just nods like he knew that the entire time.
The girl nods and grabs a piece of paper out of her pocket and starts to feverishly write on it with a pen that mysteriously appeared in her hands.
After she finished writing, she handed it to Jessica who read it out.
“My name is Jessie, and I use Fire Magic. I joined this guild because I heard it would be fun.” Jessica finishes reading it aloud, as Mason nods.
“Yes, very admirable trait that of Fire Magic, what kind my I ask?” Jessie shoots a violet coloured flame at Mason’s chair, which had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and rips it out from underneath him.
Kalin cracks up laughing even more, as Mason gets back up dusting himself off.
“Hah, hah, hah. Very funny, so funny I forgot to laugh.” Mason’s eyes water as he covers his nose.
“Oh god what is that smell!” He exclaims, as he notices an orange flame on his head.
Kalin cracks up even more, with Jessica and Kate joining in.
Mason puts out the weird smelling flame and glares at the kid.
“I get it, anything else you want to write about yourself?” Mason looked slightly annoyed, while Kalin was pissing himself laughing.
She pauses for a moment to think and then shakes her head for no, while having a massive grin on her face.
“Why am I the one stuck babysitting these newbies for a week?” Mason thought bitterly, turning to the next in line.
“What about you little guy? How did you get in here in the first place?” Mason looked confused, looking at the little kid with a shock of jet black hair above a green shirt with a russet brown trim and brown shorts. His guild mark was barely seen on his right shoulder, but from what Jessica could gather it was green, scale, on brown, hand.
“My name is Oran, and I use Plant Magic. I fought Cody; and passed. That’s how I am here you big jerk!” The little kid sticks his tongue out at him, as Mason ruffles his jet black hair.
“Whatever you say little guy, so anything else you would like to add?” Mason looked down at him and said in a baby tone, earning a punch in the face from Oran.
“Yeah, I joined this guild to prove jerks like you wrong!” Oran sits down and puts on a cute little sulky face, which made Jessica feel sorry for them.
“Ok then, next please.” Mason rubs his nose, with Kalin laughing even harder in the background.
The girl next to Jessica, who had blond hair and blue eyes and a light blue coat with small angel wings on the back and a feathery trim above white short shorts, perked her head up and grinned. Her guild mark was white, scale, on yellow, hand, and was clearly evident on her right thigh.
“My name is Missy, I use Angel Slayer Magic. I can also use some Air and Light magic. I joined this guild to prove that I can make do in this world.” Mason looks at her, trying to figure out how this girl could ever use a lost magic; let alone Angel Slayer Magic.
“Ok then, since I want this over and done with; you with the Red shirt next to Missy here. Your turn.” Mason points at Jessica, while the others turned to face her.
“Well my name is Jessica, I use Celestial Magic. I have always looked up to this guild and wanted to join it, and here I am a member. It’s a dream come true for me.” Jessica looks like she was about to cry from happiness, but Mason interrupts.
“Okie dokie, next up is you big laughing maniac. Go on, don’t be shy.” Mason glared at Kalin, as Kalin was still trying to stifle his snickering.
“Well my name is Kalin; I use Dragon Slayer and Earth magic. Jessica and I have been friends for ages; I also gave Cody a run for his money in the fighting test. I joined this guild because it has the strongest wizards for me to fight with.” Kalin breaks into a grin, as Mason sweat drops.
“You joined….to fight?” Mason thought, shaking his head in amazement at his stupidity.
“Wow Dragon Slayer magic! What type?” Oran asked, looking up at Kalin in amazement.
“Well I can show you; Stone Fist of the Earth Dragon!” Kalin slams his fist onto the ground, smashing it open as Mason looks at him like he is an idiot.
“You idiot, what exactly do you think you are doing? Are you trying to get Maxie to come back in here?” Mason looked at him angrily, making Kalin shrug.
“I don’t care if he doesn’t or does. I want to fight him anyway, so if he comes in, the better it is for me.” Mason looks at him as if he was a madman when Maxie walked in back in, as if on cue.
“Ah so you want to fight me? I must warn you, I am no good at holding back. Knowing this, will you still go ahead with this?” Maxie’s aura comes back surrounding him, as Mason shrinks away.
“Don’t do it Kalin he is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, in the guild! He will wipe the floor with you.” Jessica pleads with him, trying to talk him out of the fight.
It didn’t work; in fact it fired Kalin up even more.
“Yeah I won’t hold back either.” Kalin surrounds himself with his own brown aura, the two now staring each other down.
“RUN!” Mason yells, grabbing the others and disappearing in a flash to leave Maxie and Kalin to fight.
“It is time to show you my magic, the power of a dragon! Roar of the Earth Dragon!” Maxie’s eyes widen in surprise when he heard the spell’s name.
Kalin shoots a stream of brown fire at Maxie, hitting and creating a massive explosion that trashes the room.
When it clears, Maxie is standing there completely unscathed.
“Please, that is the power of a dragon? That barely did a scratch! My turn, Elemental Magic: Tornado Strike!” Maxie opens a magic circle in front of him, which sent a wave of powerful winds at Kalin.
Kalin was picked up and sent flying by the winds, crying out in pain as they cut him multiple times.
The room is completely destroyed by the time Kalin falls back onto the ground, groaning.
“What? Is that all? You sure talk the talk, but can’t walk the walk.” Maxie walks over and leans down into his ear.
“Here’s a piece of advice; don’t pick fights that you can’t win. You’ll live longer.” Maxie pats him on the head, and then leaves the room.
But before that he turns around and adds.
“Oh and don’t try and brag about having “the power of a dragon” it is an insult to dragons and dragon slayers everywhere.” And with that Maxie walks out.
Kalin slams his fist on the ground. “Damnit, I was defeated in one hit…how strong is this guy really?” Kalin thought, as he slumped back down in defeat and falls unconscious.
Jane walks back in and smiles. “A dragon slayer huh? I will have to keep an eye on this one.” She thought, as her hands glowed.
“Healing Magic: Cleanse.” She mutters under her breath, his wounds healing straight up and then she gets up and leaves the room before he awakes.
When Kalin woke up, he had no idea the task that awaited him.
