ECHIDNA

alt

By Nicola brooks

There is a place unseen by humans that rides across the Atlantic ocean and bares its soul to only a few who believe in things they can not see. A place called Echidna. Golden by day and purple by night it's sky isnever stillfor blue winged angels hang above the land and never touch the ground. It was said that if their feet touched the soil they'd burn into black ash and feed the creatures and plants, thus bringing new life and a new time. A new Echidna!

In Pearl City, the tail of this wondrous place a dark sorcerer called Typhon, who despises everything within it's walls plays tricks on those who fly. He hopes to destroy Echidna, and all who live in it. Not yet successful the fate of Pearl City and indeed Echidna rests with one soul, a women called Gienah.

Gienah, resides alone in the blue hills outside Pearl City. She was Earth bound and slipped into Echidna by accident, though truth be known she was always destined. Those on Earth are consumed by time but here in Echidna, life is warped and time stands still. She will never lose time on Earth.

She carries with her a leather bag which keeps the map to her victor, only known as Apollo who is rumoured to sometimes fly with the angels. The only human so it is said, to have the magic to fly.

Rested against the oak of a purple leaved tree, Gienah with muddy fingers pry's at her brown vest splitting it open to reveal the flesh of her breast. She looks down to see blood and gritting her teeth places a fallen leaf onto the wound.

She sweeps her dark hair away from her face and lifts her head in spite of the pain "Apollo, see me now, heal me or I will not reach you in time!" she say's and as she finishes a rustling of leaves comes from behind her. Her chest heavy she looks back into the black shadows to check she is alone.

"Apollo?" she say's softly but the ground this time is still.

Fearing her bloody wound may provoke the black cat known to hunt humans, she places a few leaves into her bag and moves off quickly with one hand on her chest to find a safe haven.
