The next girl who came to the arena had long black hair that had blue streaks in it like mine had red. She wore a black shirt and a blue bodice, her shirt was an aqua color. She stood tall and proud, “My name is Raine. And I am Air.” She sent her first volley of attacks. I concentrated, moving the air away from me. My dress flapped against my legs.
She hit attack after attack. And in each attack I somehow was able to see its force and move it off course. Air was the hardest element to pass. Just on the regular arena floor the winds came straight and with mighty power.
These people held the gifts of the gods, and I could do the same. Was this really a dream or was this my real life now? Learning training to be this, a master? My thoughts were disturbed as Raine left the arena. After all this attack and dodge game they were playing with me I was tired. And even as the sun began to hit the last window of the day I had two more battles. And I was tired.
The Head Master came to the arena, “We will break one last time. For an hour. You need to eat and rest.” I nodded. Iredessa came to my side.
“Lady Ember, this way.” She wrapped her arm around mine and guided me to a chair. “You did amazing, Miss Ember. Most of the others have collapsed with tiredness by now. You are mighty strong.”
“Why are they so tough on me?
“To see if you’re good enough.” She said with a sigh. “No one has done so much in one day luckily spirits easy. Then darkness, well spirit should give you more energy.”
“I don’t see how they can expect people to go so far with no training.”
“Most can’t. Most play hide and seek in tell they find their element. And they know it when they are surrounded by it.”
“So everyone has to do this? Not just me because they think I am the one?”
“Lady Ember, you must eat. You need your rest and talking isn’t resting.” I nodded. Not wanting to eat since I wanted to know so much more about this world. But she walked away, and I found myself eating.
When I finished eating my soup and bread I laid my head back and closed my eyes. I didn’t go anywhere in Lala Land, but my thoughts kept repeating everything that I had done that day. On earth this was the only way I could fall asleep.
When the Head Masters words shook me from my thoughts, “The final break is over!” His voice boomed.
I stood and walked to my spot. The girl who stood in front of me didn’t look like she was a big master like the others did. She wore a purple shirt with lilac and lavender ruffles as her skirt. Her necklace was a loose clear crystal. She had black hair with purple eyes. “My name is Amaya. I am the spokesperson for spirit. We don’t have a master by choice. As spirit we don’t fight, to show that you have potential for spirit you need to look into yourself and show everyone your spirit form. This will also become your guardian animal.”
“Ok. So how am I to that?”
“Look within your heart. And you will find your soul.”
At that she closed her eyes I knew I wasn’t going to get another word in so I closed mine to. Look with myself? That wasn’t going to be easy. But at least it wasn’t like the others.
After a long time of mentally seeing my heart I opened it. Of course I didn’t know what all was in here. So I walked in. I saw everything I loved, trees, waterfalls, animals, oceans, my friends and family. The toys I grew up with even my teddy bear my brother gave me the day before my fifth birthday. After all the things he’d done I threw it away. I walked farther in and I saw my favorite animals that I owed. Simmone, Kody, Duchess, Twilight, Rowdy, Toby; all running in the same way. I followed them then I saw the man I fell in love with. The man who stole my heart with one look, smiled his sweet smile at me and pointed farther in. “Almost there.” He said. The next thing I see is the Northern Lights dancing.
In the middle of my of all the lights was an egg. I stepped closer and touched it. It rippled like water and transformed itself into a dragon. White in scales and beautiful beyond belief, she turned around me and blew fire all around. She was happy, “Well done, Ember. You know where to find me.”
She curled up in the center of my heart. “You have the power of a dragon, without having me with you. Just think how strong you’ll be once you find me.” She laid her head down and my love came to me.
“You have seen your core, now it’s time to go.” And he walked me to my hearts door.
As I left the door he closed it with a smile and it disappeared. I opened my eyes and as I did the dragon went along with the heart. Amaya looked like she did before with a little spook behind her eyes. I stood and instantly needed a chair.
“You have passed the spirits challenge, Lady Ember.”
She walked away.
The moon entered the center of the skies. A pale girl dressed in a black skirt and bodice with white sleeves. Entered the arena, her necklace was a red choker with an onyx stone. She looks lethal and proud. “My name is Shade, and I am Darkness.”
She sent her first attack; it looked like a black ball with a purple center. Raised my hand and thought about a strong shield and it was made out of shadows and night. The attack was swallowed into my shield. She sent a volley of those little balls and my shield caught as much as it could before breaking.
I raised my hand, “Bria!” my hand lit up every shadow ball was melted into dust. Shades face turned from happy angry to I’m going to kill you angry. As the light on my hand began to dim into nothing I sank farther and farther to the ground. As my knees found shelter the rest of me collapsed. Everything went dark.
