Moon

The darkness made me feel so... so alone. But I would have given anything at that moment to be alone. I looked up into the sky, the moon was pale and full. I suddenly felt as if my heart stopped, and the blood in froze in my veins. My heart started beating again, but loudly this time...like I could hear the blood pumping behind my ears. I felt a cold sweat on my forehead, and I tried to turn and run, but my legs were stuck in place. Part of me was screaming to snap out of my trance and run, but the other part of me was... dead. Suddenly a a dark figure pushed me backwards. I tried to scream, but my voice was so quite I could barly hear myself. The dark figure stepped into the dim moonlight and then I saw it. He had dark, blood red eyes and razor-sharp fangs. 'Vampire!' I thought to myself. I didn't know why I was so surprised,I was a vampire hanter after all. I had delt with vampires before, but I had never come face to face with one. He grabbed my shoulders and lifted me off the ground. His face was so close to mine, I could feel his cold breath. He pushed my neck to the side and I started to feel light-headed. Just before I was out cold I felt his fangs cut my skin and blood started to drain from my body.

My eyes shot open and my body flew up in bed. "That dream again..." I said. Well it wasn't a dream really, it was a memory. I stood up and walked to my window. "I should have known..." I said. "After all, I don't need to sleep." I opened the window in my room. The sky above me was black, but farther out I could see the sun rise. Dawn. My stupid little attic room was cramped, but it had a great view of the sky. But who cared about the sky, it was all gray to me now. I closed my eyes and drifted back into my old room. The light blue walls, my old bed, the windows, the lights, the red-brown door, and the view of our garden...myfamily's garden. That room, that house, the garden, none ofit was ours, it was all their's. I miss them all so much, Mother, Father, James, I even missed Lily. Anything beats living in Jade's attic. I mean, she is family, sort of. Jade is my mother's much younger step-sister. So I guess that makes her my Aunt. I'm just glad she doesn't know about vampires, or the Hunters. I'm even happier that she hates my mother's family, and she belived that I ran away because I couldn't stand the awfullifestyleof the rest of my family.Jade and I have never been close, and her one-room house is hardly what I could call a home, but she is the only oneof my family whodoesn't want to see me dead. I opened up the window and sniffed the cold morning air.

"Amy! Are you up yet," Jade called from down-stairs. It was 5:30 in the morning and she was up. Jade is a morning person, and I can't stand people like that. I don't know why, but I have never liked people that rush me to get up. Well now I don't have to sleep, but I like to. However, dreams of that day kept me up all night. My stomach seemed to growl, but then I realized it wasn't human food that I was hungry for. "Amy! Wake up," Jaded yelled.

"I'm up! I'll be down in thirdy minutes!" That was all the time I needed to find some type of food. I jumped out of the window and landed on the ground without even blinking. I stared off into the forest for a moment and started runing, slowly at first, then I started runningat fullspeed. I found myself in the middle of the woods, and I listened closely to every sound around me. Then I heard it, I didn't know what kind of animal it was, but my hunger took control of me. My golden eyes turned red, and my teeth grew into sharp fangs. The animal side of me took over, and eat or be eaten was now how I was going to live for the next few minutes. I saw some kind of animal threw the thick trees, and before I realized what kind of animal it was I lunged foreward and attacked it.

Before I knew it I was sitting on the ground with my back against a tree. My 'hunger' was over, for now. I looked down at my night shirt and saw that it was covered in blood. I stood up and ran toward the house. I got to the place right below my window and jumped up. I grabbed the window pane and leaped into my room. I ran to the small mirror and looked at my reflection. This was bad. My eyes were still dark red. I spun around and looked at the clock on the wall. 5:44. Good, I still had some time. I grabbed the cloths from my dresser and put them on quickly. I ran a brush through my hair a few times and then put my hair in a pony-tailand went back to the mirror, and saw that my eyes were back to normal and that my teeth no longer had fangs. I looked at my arms and legs to make sure there was no blood left on them, and then I dashed down the staircase. Jade was sitting in the kitchen and two burnt pieces of toast was on the table next to my seat. In the four months that I had been here, Jade had not made a meal that was good. "Good morning Amy! What do you have planed for today," Jade asked.

"Iam going to do nothing, like I have done for the last fewweeks of summer vacation."

"So a sixteen year old girl has nothing to do in the middle of July?"

"Well... most girls are out of town, hanging out with friends, or they have boyfriends. And I have none of those things."

"Well good then, cause I need to go out of town, I have never spent an entire summer at home.Is that what you did when you lived at your parent's house?Well, anyway, how much do you like Florida," Jade asked in a much too perky way.

"Florida? I think it's a torist trap and the people that do live there must not like that fact much. So if that was you askingme if I wanted to go, the answer is no. I would rather stay home, but I don't mind you going, I have stayed home alone before. I'm sixteen, aot six."

"Well, ok then. I was going to leave at the last week of July, so are you shur you'll be ok for the two weeks after that?"

"Yes, I'm sure I will live until then."

"Good, because I already got my plain ticket, and they're non-refundable."

"Your ticket? So you were sure I wasn't going?"

"No, but I was sure I was."

"Well... ok then. Wait... the last week of July? That's three days from now."

"Yes, yes it is. While I'm gone, don't get into trouble."

"How could I get into anykind of trouble in this boring town?"
