Chapter 6

Kara sat up in bed, shaking hard, her bones hurting in her shaking. Tears were burning the back of her eyes, and the room around her was unbearably hot, small droplets of sweat were running down the temple of her head. She looked around into the dim room, feeling eyes watching her from within the shadows. She reached over and turned on the small light beside her bed. Instantly her room was filled with the pale white glow of the lamp. She sat back, her back pressed up against the wall; she put her head in her hands, taking a few deep breaths to calm her racing heartbeat.

Once her heartbeat went back to the normal and the sickness had passed, she slid across the bed and stood up. As soon as her feet were on the ground, she became lightheaded, the room around her span and a painful headache formed in the back of her mind. She felt something run down her face; it touched her lip then fall from her chin. Her hand reached up to touch the wetness and when it came away it was tinted with red. On top of everything that had happened that day, she got a nosebleed.

Kara shook her head and began to laugh. She was tired, she had a headache, she felt sick, and now she had a nosebleed. This was not how she thought her trip to the Human World would be like.

She pinched her nose and looked around her room for something she could use to stop the bleeding, when she couldn’t see anything she picked out a pair of socks from her bag and used that. She put it to her nose and held it tight until the bleeding stopped.

She dropped the bloodied sock to the floor then walked over to the small window in her room. She unlocked it then opened it wide, letting the cool night breeze into her room. She took a deep breath of the air and looked out at the sky. Clouds covered the sky, blocking out the moon and the stars, the only light that could be seen was the light from her room.

After standing at the window for a few minutes her body began to relax, her headache disappeared, leaving only a faint memory of it in her head. She took one last look at the sky, closed the window and went back to her bed. She lay her head on the pillow, pulled her blanket up to her chest, rolled over to her right side and put her hand beneath the pillow.

As she closed her eyes her fingers found something hidden under the pillow. Her fingers closed around it and she brought it out into the light. It was a photo, folded in half. With shakily fingers she unfolded it. Looking back at her was a picture she hadn’t seen in many years; it was a photo of her and Kai. They were both looking at the camera with happy smiles on their faces and helpless love in their eyes. As Kara looked from Kai’s beautiful blue eyes to her own, the day the photo was taken came back to her…

Kai pulls me close to his body, his arm around my shoulders, keeping me safe from the rest of the world. I tilt my head up to face him and our eyes lock. A feel of pure love washes over me as I see his face inching closer to mine. My eyes close as I feel his lips press against mine. It starts soft and light, only small peeks here and there, but as my heartbeat picks up, so does the kiss. We fall back onto his bed, him body pushed against mine but I don’t care, all I care about is feeling more of him.

A few seconds later his mother knocks on the door, telling us to pack it in. Feeling embarrassed, we part from each other but the feeling of wanting him, needing him, stays with me as I straighten my dress and sit up. I move to the top of the bed where I lie down with my head on a pillow. Kai moves next to me, his arm going around my shoulder, pulling me to him. I rest my head on his shoulder and draw my arm over his belly and hugging him to me.

We sit in silents for a bit, just the sound of our heavy breathing to fill the room, but just being next to him is enough for me. It will always be enough for me. I smile as I think that. “What are you smiling at?” Kai asks from beside me.

I feel him turn his body to face me. I take my hand that is placed on my belly and begins to play with my fingers. I let him. “I was imagining us when we are older. We were married and we had lots of powerful Witches running around our house.”

“Is that so?” Is Kai’s answer. I turn to face him, thinking he had taken it the wrong way, after all, we have only been going out for the past six months, but he has a smile on her tanned face and wonder in his eyes. I open my month to say something but he stops me by turning away and taking something from the drawer next to him.

“What are you doing?” I ask him.

He turns back to face me, and in his hands is a camera. “I want to have a picture of us together,” he says.

We lie next to each other, my put my head on his bare chest, with his arm around me. He takes the picture, the flash blinding me only for a minute. “Let’s have a look.” I say, moving so we both can see the picture but instead of showing me the photo Kai plants another kiss on my lips.

I take the photo and camera from him and drop of to the floor as I kiss him back and slide beneath his body. His body heat warming me to my core, making me want more of him. I feel one of his hands slide the length of my body, rising goose bumps in its wake. I bring my arms around his neck, pulling him to me and wrap my legs around his back. He lowers his body slightly, pinning me beneath this body. He pushes his right leg between my legs as he breaks the kiss to plant tiny little kisses down my neck. His hand comes back up my body, removing my strap from my shoulder as his kisses my chest. I bring his lips back to mine, my body burning with the need for him. I feel hot with desire as his tongue runs across my lips.

I smile as I begin to unbutton his shirt. Once all the buttons are undone Kai slips the top off, exposing his tanned muscular body. I run my hand over his chest while still kissing him deeply. His tongue enters my month, our tongues dancing around each other.

Kai breaks away for air and in that second he whispers, “I love you, Kara.”

I stop kissing him and look into his big round blue eyes. By the pure love in them, I know he means it. I smile at him. “I love you, too, Kai.” I heard myself say and meant it.

Kai face lights up with a smile as he kisses me once more before I stop him by saying. “We need to stop, it’s going too fast.” He nods once and slides off me, his chest rising and falling fast. I put my hand on his shoulder, he brings his arm around me and palls me to him. I curl up next to him and we both watch the world go dark around us.

Kara came out of the vision and looked at the photo once more. Even before they said the words ‘I love you’ it was written clearly on both of their faces. She smiled as she kissed her fingers and put them over Kai’s face; she folded up the photo and put it back beneath the pillow, and turned off the light and fell back into a blissfully peaceful sleep.
