Chapter 1 Continued
Tommy woke with a burst of pain in his stomach and he felt a liquid pass out of his mouth and hit the ground. His eyes lit up with the surroundings and he quelled the urge to puke at the site of hundreds of dead bodies piled up not too far in front of him.
"So you're the one Sinith wants to probe?"
Tommy shifted his eyes around the room trying to find the source of the voice and probably his pain. No sooner had he sound his target did another slam into his stomach came. A very tall lean woman looked down into his face. She had the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen, too bad they were splattered by his blood.
"I wonder why father would be so curios in such a thing as you, I mean . . . look at you . . ."
She reared back her fist while he was still dazed by her eyes, and slammed them so hard into his jaw that he heard a snap. He noticed that her eyes were blue but had a strange fire in them that he couldn't pull away from, and so all he did was shyly smile at her.
"Damn it I broke a nail, and what are you so go happy about?"
She slapped him hard with a left arm back hand, causing yet more blood to splatter unto the ground. But like the blood drooling idgit he had woken up to be, he went right back to smiling at her. A rough voice that seemed vaguely familiar popped up from behind her with a cough and Tommy focused his view on the new target and grew insanely mad at the sight he saw.
Flexing his arms, the ropes that bound him strained to keep him back and his hands had been locked down extremely tight to prevent him from using any magic. Sinith was standing there with his cloak pulled down, and chewing a piece of straw hanging out of his mouth.
"You are a strong man Tommy, though your name says otherwise . . . I would suggest changing to something like, Vale or Elite, something less, I don't know, innocent I guess. YouÂÂve racked up quite a bit of a death toll and my fellow gatekeepers are looking to end your life, aren't they my sweet."
She looked down at Tommy cracking her knuckles, he could tell that all she would've like to do was beat him to death.
"Why yes father that's actually all they want, I don't see why you find it so hard to comply."
Sinith grabbed the straw with two fingers and flung it to the ground and walked up to Tommy putting his hand on Tommy's head, bending down to look him in the eye.
"Because he's the one to bring an apocalypse."
The woman and Tommy dropped their jaws and looked at Sinith as if they had never met the man and he had asked to rape them both in a jail cell on their birthdays.
"Yepers, Tommy, you're supposed to create an apocalypse. Don't know when, all I'm required to do is make sure it happens. So Tommy, wanna become immortal, insanely powerful, and kill a few if not all the gatekeepers?"
"Father, think of what you are doing. Do you really wish them dead?"
"Oh dear dear daughter . . ." He shook his head at Tommy "Why are the people preaching the word of God so hard to talk to? No . . . "
He let go of Tommy's head and looked at his daughter, "Marly, how many times do I have to tell you, my job is to protect the five races and causes the wars needed to be caused, I'm the only gatekeeper who actually does his job. And so, as in war, weak links are always the ones who fall first."
Tommy saw Sinith build magic in his arm and tried to react, but then when Sinith didn't stop his mind began to scream in sheer terror at the huge mass of magic that was building up within Sinith's arm, the walls were beginning to crack under its pressure. Sinith spun around and Tommy was in a world of pain once again, but this time it didn't last long and then he was in, well he didn't know. He was falling through the clouds, they were wet and he thought that odd because he'd thought they were pillows of God. The air whistled past his body as he silently fell through the air. His body slowly rolled over watching the ground come ever faster.
Suddenly the room was dark again and he saw all the elements in their raw forms. There was fire, water, earth, wind, and lightening . . . but where is the element of the spirit that they taught him so much about in the arcane academy? He realized he was in a very bad place at that moment, he was in the very center. The elements converged upon his body ripping his skin off layer by layer and he screamed a scream in which no one heard but had anyone, they'd of been deaf for the elements slowly stripped him down to his very bones and then he was back in the light but the opposite was happening. He was being rebuilt a new body before his very eyes. His arms were still pale but he now saw through different eye, and guessed that they were slits for he couldn't see to his sides but he could feel his sides. His body was very much like a human's but it was sleeker and more lean, he noticed he'd also gotten fangs as he bit down on his tongue accidentally. He had a new body, he'd been given a new chance. But you see, he was a soldier so anything that was powerful enough to create his body was powerful enough to take it away. And no one could have that kind of power over him.
