Ella, or Eleanor, my twin sister, is the only friend I have. It was almost the end of junior year, yet all the cool kids still hate me. I'm not sure what I have to do to get them to like me, but whatever I've been doing, isn't working.
"Bell you okay?" I looked over to see my sister staring at me. We were currently sitting on the bus, and I'd had my headphones in my ears, blasting it so I couldn't hear the annoying sophomore and freshman kids.
I nodded, only to unpause my favorite song. I was blasting Breaking Benjamin's song, Breath.
I was nudged again. I pulled the headphones out of my ears, irritated. "What Ella?"
"Jesus Bell, you don't have to give me attitude. What's wrong with you today? You're grumpier than you normally are."
I looked around at all the immature kids sitting around throwing paper at one another. I rolled my eyes. "I'm not gonna talk about it here."
"Well then you better tell me when we get home. Got it?"
I nodded, and then shoved the ear buds back into my ears. All I wanted to do was surround myself with my music. It seemed to be the only thing to calm me down.
I have always been an angry individual. I was always left out of everything. I also seemed to be the "failure" child. My parents and my twin seem to disagree, mainly because they want me to feel the love. But the truth is, my sister has always been the one with all the talent. She can sing, dance, and draw amazingly. I wasn't good at anything, especially making friends.
My sister Ella was the one with all the friends. Her friends seemed to like me pretty well, but I felt like Ella made them like me. Whatever. Ella was also the one with the boyfriend. She's had multiple boyfriends now, and I've never even had my first kiss.
The bus stopped at the familiar corner by our house. Ella slowly slid out of the seat, saying good-bye to some kids around us. I waited patiently to get out after her, but was cut off by some annoying freshman from the back. I waited again, less patiently, to slide out after everyone had gotten off.
We walked home in silence. I still had my headphones in, so I guess it wasn't all that silent.
Right away when we walked through the door, I could hear my mom yelling from the kitchen. "Oh Ella! Come quick!" Again, Ella was always the favorite.
I casually followed my sister into the kitchen after chucking my book bag across the living room onto the couch.
"Ella look what came for you in the mail!" Ella grabbed the envelope from our mother and she took out some folded up papers. I pretended to look around in the fridge as I glanced over to what she was taking out.
There was a couple applications for something…. I closed the fridge after taking out an apple. I walked over to the sink and washed it, while still glancing. I could see the word CHEERLEADING written on the top of one of them, and DANCE on the other.
"Mom they want me to join the cheerleading squad and the dance team," Ella said calmly. I rolled my eyes.
"Well are you going to do it Honey?" Why don't you do it mother since you want it so bad! Barf.
"I dunno mom. I don't know if I wanna join anything else. My schedule's already hectic as it is." You do nothing but sit around all day Ella. How could you possibly be busy?
I snickered, luckily they didn't hear me. I dried off my apple and I headed out of the kitchen and back into the living room.
"Ella you should at least do the cheerleading. Think of how fun it would be to go to all the sports games and cheer on all the boys!" I don't understand why my mom was so over-enthusiastic about this stuff. She always tried to get Ella into everything she could.
I stomped angrily up the stairs to my bedroom, slamming the door behind me. I opened up my closet, and smiled at the large poster of Channing Tatum on the back of the door. I touched his chest and then took out a large comfy sweater.
I slammed my closet door shut as I threw the large sweater on over my t-shirt. I don't know why I didn't bring it to school today…it was chilly outside.
I flopped down on my bed and turned on the television. There was some movie on about this girl who turned into a guy. I looked at the TV guide and saw the movie title… The Hot Chick. I've seen this before, it's a great movie! But unfortunately it has a happy ending. I hate things with happy endings.
I finished eating my apple and then yawned loudly. I could hear something pawing at my door, and it took me a minute to realize that it was my cat. I got up from my bed and opened up my door, letting Moo waltz in and hop up on my bed. I shut the door again and I walked over, laying down next to her.
My cat was the only real thing I could talk to. She was usually a good listener…when she wasn't sleeping.
I could feel the warmth radiating off of her small body. She was a small cat, but she wasn't a kitten. She was fully grown. I felt myself dozing off next to my baby. Soon enough, I was asleep.
I heard this knocking at my door, and I could feel myself rolling over. "What?"
My mother opened the door slowly, and a bright gleam of light shone in. What time was it? "Honey supper has been ready for a while. Are you coming down to eat?"
"Mrrrrhhhrmmrmm," was all I could get out before I passed back out. I heard the door shut as I fell back into my deep sleep.
