Her mother’s voice cut through her soothing water simulator like a knife. With a heavy sigh, Giya rolled onto her side, picked up her receiver and called “Got it” to her mother. She really didn’t feel up to conversation.
“Tracy!” Giya sat straight up in bed. “ I’m at home, duh. Where are you?” she asked, listening closely to distinguish the sounds in Tracy’s background. “Is that party music I hear?”
“Yes! Why aren’t you here? I told you about Mark’s party weeks ago!”
“No1” Giya cried. She had forgotten all about the party, all about everything in the wake of her recent breakup. As the events of the past week drifted across her mind, the wave of depression she had become all too acquainted with washed over her.
“Yes, you can. Get dressed quickly, I sent Tavarez McKenzie to get you.”
“Tavarez McKenzie?” Tavarez was the second best looking guy at school. The best looking guy was a senior whose name no body knew. The third best looking was Travis Newman, Giya’s ex-boyfriend.
“Well it wasn’t really that hard. He asked for you when he saw me. I told him you were at home and that I’d call you, and then he said he’d pick you up. Ya ’know I think he likes you.”
“I’m serious. Will you just get up and get dressed? He should be there any minute. I already asked your mother if it was ok and she said sure. Hurry up. Put on that little two- piece you like so much, and wear something cute over it. You need to get out and breathe G. This’ll be fun. Now, GET UP!”
“Amazing? Yeah, I know. Now go and get dressed. You know you shouldn’t keep Tavarez waiting. Toodles.”
