THE SILKEN WEB
One afternoon, Grandma Walter was sitting by the big picture window in the family room. A rather large room with big comfy chairs and couches that made you feel so relaxed. Outside it was a dull, wet, dreary, blustery autumn day. The wind was blowing gale force from the northwest over the bay. The waves were thumping into the shore and the crest of the waves was as white as snow. Not a soul was to be seen anywhere. The fire was burning bright and it gave a warm glow to the room. Now, Grandma Walter could fall asleep at the drop of a hat or just plain nodding off. It just didn’t matter what time it was. It was a well-known fact by all who knew her that when Grandma was working on her crochet she would always nod off. It seemed that this day was no different. You see, my name is Hannah; I am seven years of age and often spend time with my Grandma Walter. Today, however, was a day like no other. Grandma was talking about her childhood; when suddenly all was quiet. She had stopped talking about the memories she saw in her mind and had drifted of to sleep. I laughed ever so slightly and knew it was time to find another way to entertain myself. Just as she was nodding off, I happened to notice a small spider crawling up the crochet dresser scarf that Grandma was creating. I thought she might have screamed when she saw it, however there was not a peep out of her. She was snoring away ever so softly in land of Nod. I crept closer to have a better look at the spider. As I got closer and closer and was almost touching it, the most amazing thing happened. The centre of the crochet scarf started to glow and spin. As it was spinning it sent out little stars and streams of multi-coloured lights, I jumped back. Some of the stars surrounded me. It was really weird; I felt like I was spinning and being pulled into a tunnel by an ever-widening web. Along with me came the small spider. There was a myriad of sparkling colours all around me; red, blue, pink, yellow. I felt like I was falling, spinning, tumbling and just as quick as the blast of stars and coloured lights started it stopped. I landed with a heavy thud.
