Chapter 6

Moraug paced in a circle around his throne room. He dodged the debris that was still scattered throughout the large chamber. His slaves had attempted to clean but every time he saw one of those sniveling mortals he lost his temper. They had finally figured out to leave him be for the time being.

He walked over to his thrown and threw himself into the lush softness of the chair. A chain rattled at his side and he looked down into the fearful of eyes of Railina. He had finally tamed the little filly and he had enjoyed every minute of it. She still had a wild streak in her so he had resorted to the chain that was shackled around her neck.

     “Hello my pet.”

She turned her eyes from his and fell into one of her sulky moods.  He would have a time with her tonight.

What were the Kai up to? He’d asked himself this same question ever sense the dreaded light had pierced his brain with pain. Somehow the Kai had found a way into the underworld, but how? There was something else there as well, a sensation he’d not felt for a very long time, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it was. For centuries he had been able to feel the Kai and their connection with the Ghai. Whether it be a new bonding, a separation, or death he always felt it in his soul. But now there was something new, yet familiar.

He knew they were up to something. Perhaps attempting a rescue, but it had been a long time since his demons had brought him their prize. Had those damn do-gooders found a way into his realm? The white light that had penetrated the stone walls had nearly split his head open with pain. He had awoken on the cold stone floor, naked and alone. Railina had escaped, but only for a little while. It took him two days to recover from the attack and now he was furious with the Kai.

He was cautious on attacking the mortals, they may be expecting him to do as much and be waiting for him to show himself. So he kept the graekulls close at hand and would wait for the right moment to send out his army.

A squalling reached his ears as a slave carried an infant from one of the long corridors to another. He sat up suddenly remembering where he felt the sensation. Damn it. How had he forgotten, the child from years past had been hidden from him. Could another infant have been born?

   “Wrenkin!”
