Skypaw made her way through the crowd of her clanmates and to Snowstar's den. She haulted before entering, knowing it would be disrespectful to barge in on her clan leader, as well as father. "Snowstar?"
"Come in," she heard the answer. She padded under the ferns that tunneled the entrance to his den, and saw him sitting, grooming himself, under the hanging branches of bushes that made it look like a cave. "Skypaw? What happened? You look as if a hawk swooped down and dropped you in a thorn bush!"
"Snowstar, I need to talk to you," she meowed impatiently, when all of a sudden Oakfur stepped inside the den and stood next to the apprentice. "Snowstar, something just happened to me... that I... can't explain naturally." she started slowly, looking deeply into her leader's blue and brown eyes. Then, Oakfur described what had happened to the apprentice for her. "She came to tell me about a fox near our camp, when suddenly she collapsed to the ground and started breathing heavily. I went to get Leafear and he gave her some herbs to revive her. She seemed to be normal if only for a few seconds then, but she collapsed again, yet her breathing was normal... I... I'm not sure what happened at that."
"Snowstar, I think I had a vision. Something dreadful will come in the future." She spoke after Oakfur was finished speaking. Snowstar kept his eyes on his daughter, a scared look on his face. No father could stand to hear that something terrible like that happened to his daughter. "Can you explain the vision?"
"I know I was in the camp, but the vision was blurry. There were loud pitches of large birds around the camp, and loud sounds of swooping wings swarming across the sky. I-- I think our camp was under attack by many, many large birds, Snowstar," she mewed shakily. "I think it was some kind of omen from StarClan."
"Birds? We've never had birds attack our camp before, not even one," Snowstar looked deep in thought, and worried. "Well, if the birds that you saw come to attack us, we must be ready. Skypaw, were these creatures brown and lean?"
"Yes, Snowstar, I think. Like I said, it was somewhat blurry."
"It could be hawks, then," Oakfur mewed.
"I'll inform all cats right away. And Skypaw, thank you for telling me about this. It's important that we keep our eyes peeled so we're ready," Snowstar sounded firm and determined now.
"There's one more thing, though," she mewoed. "I heard a voice, a whisper in the message. It was saying, 'Herin, Herin... River, River."
"Peculiar. You say that the birds flying were brown. They couldn't be Herins unless they were blue," Oakfur mewed thoughtfully. “Well, we’ll keep the thought in mind and be on our guard. I have hunting to attend to now.” Snowstar agreed with a nod and got up to lick Skypaw as Oakfur padded out of the den.
“It makes me wonder why StarClan would send a message like that to a young apprentice,” Snowstar muttered to Skypaw, “I’m sure they expect great things from you.”
