The Deep Secret Arts

Timaneus sat down at the camp and watched some animals play around but after a while that got boring so he went for a little stroll around the camp. Fleur and Norman were resting next to a tree, Timaneus untied the saddlebags and left his on the floor. There was a book sticking out of Misam’s saddlebag. Timaneus curious pulled it out and examined it, it was blue coloured and ragged and old. Runes etched into the book read Magic : The Most Mysterious Art. Timaneus snorted and fell on the floor laughing, magic who believed in magic. Misam must be a nutter to read this book, magic Timaneus had only believed that when he was five. Still he thought Misam isn’t a nutter there must be some meaning behind him reading this.

Timaneus opened the book to the first page then sat down and started reading.

Magic

Chapter One

Magic is the art of releasing the energy inside your body by certain words. Every spell consumes energy, if you use all your energy in one shot you may die or collapse for days if you’re lucky .The more energy you have the more spells you can use. Through different exercises and hard work, you can increase the amount of energy you have. Eating and resting restore energy, good food for energy is eggs, meat and falain, however only certain people may use magic. Only people, who are magic-inquisitive, observe a baby after a few hours it’s born. Magic-inquisitive babies hardly cry, learn words in about two weeks and strange things happen when they’re angry.

Only with training can a human learn magic. To start off, you must relax, then gather energy like if you were to prepare to sprint for your life. Then release it by saying the spell. Try now.

Spell: Hoala—Lifts the object you focus on or hurls it. The heavier the object the more energy this consumes.

To stop the spell usually you just don’t focus on it anymore.

Timaneus laughed, he thought this was funny. Misam must be a real psycho to read this, magic who believed in that? Still laughing he was curious to see what would happen. He focused on a rock, then in his mind he made a picture of an Ork charging at him. He gathered some energy pretending that he was about to take off, he then uttered “Hoala!” feeling stupid. Timaneus’s jaw dropped as the rock wobbled then floated about three feet above the ground. Timaneus stared at it in disbelief, then he looked at Fleur and the rock dropped onto the ground. Timaneus pinched himself to see if he was dreaming, he wasn’t. Timaneus said “This is so weird” and turned the page and continued reading.

Magic

Chapter Two

Spells that you just practiced are simple spells. However more advanced spells such as manipulating energy are much harder. For an easy way to learn how strong someone is at magic you observe the colour of their spells. For beginners the colour is red, for more experienced magic users its green, for advanced magic-users the colour is black. Though these colours are unheard of there seems to be a blue colour of magic and people who have it and supposed to be able to become some of the most skilled at magic ever, it is rumored that the Three Sorcerer’s magic was blue colour(For information on the Three Sorcerer’s turn to page 19) With these, you can tell how strong someone is in magic.

Try this spell

Rocila – This spell manipulates energy from your body into a ball which can be hurled at enemies. Capable of killing but weaker attacks may just stun.

Timaneus was really confused, Misam was going to get a lot of questions tonight. He focused on the rock again. He made the image of an Ork in his head again then mumbled “Rocila!” with his hand facing the rock. Immediately Timaneus felt extremely tired, blue energy formed into a ball and then it flew across and hit the rock. The magic hit the rock and then the rock crumpled into dust in a few seconds. Timaneus fell back exhausted, his magic had been blue, the book had said that people whose magic is blue will become some of the most powerful magic users is that what made him special.

Magic

Chapter Nineteen

This is the story of the Three Sorcerers, these three were the most powerful magic users and swordsmen alive. They lived about a three centuries ago and helped banish the Orks from the Kingdom (who ruled Oceanisia before the Empire) and helped the Kingdom in many ways to establish peace. Their names were Ignis, Vand and Cielo.  Right now all of them have passed away but they helped establish one of the greatest peaceful times ever. Their descendants are still plentiful. Somewhere in Oceanisia they have hidden an ancient artefact, a sword that they crafted and sealed away with magic. Other details of this sword are unknown.

Timaneus stuffed the book back in Misam’s saddlebag feeling really confused. So there was magic, but he was confused. It was really weird, he’d just been out of his home for a few weeks and already he was discovering so much things he didn’t know before. Sighing Timaneus sat down and grabbed two sticks and made a fire. He grabbed a pot from Misam’s saddlebag and took out a hunting knife and falain, meat, corn and salt. He took out his waterskin and then poured some water into the pot. As the water warmed up Timaneus laid out the meat and chopped it into rough cubes he scooped them up and threw them in the pot, he then threw in a few stalks of falain. Timaneus bent over and added some salt, after tasting it with a spoon he threw some corn in and waited for the food to cook. As the food cooked Timaneus watched the sun set, it was a beautiful sight and it always impressed Timaneus.

When the food was ready Timaneus picked up a bowl and spooned some of the stew into it. He picked up a spoon and ate the meal in silence. Timaneus laid out to rest, his body was still sore from hard travel and the fall he had made still hurt him. Misam returned shortly, he was panting and growled “Could I have some food boy I am starving.” Timaneus quickly spooned some stew into a bowl and handed it to Misam. Misam took the bowl then devoured the food. Misam took his waterskin drank deeply from it and smacked his lips. Timaneus sat down then unsure asked “Misam I have a question?” “Fire ahead,” said Misam, “Its about magic,” said Timaneus. “Magic?!” said Misam surprised “How’d you found out about that?!” Timaneus shrugged “A book,” Misam growled then took his saddlebag and took out the tattered book. “You should learn to respect people’s privacy boy,” he said. Timaneus said “I was sort of bored and it was sticking out of your saddlebag.”

Misam snorted “Doesn’t mean you look, I was hoping to teach you this when you were prepared but then you had to discover it.” “My magic is blue,” said Timaneus “I that why you say I am special?” Misam hid a smile then said “No boy but it contributes to it.” Misam said “Well you know about it now I must take your training to another level.” Timaneus said “Fine,” Misam said “Anyway we went off the subject, the Orks lair isn’t very secure I have a way in, at midnight tomorrow the guards guarding the fort will go on a hunting trip since the Orks are so lazy they forget to post new guards so we go to the back and dig with swords and magic.” Timaneus nodded “I suppose okay then do we proceed onto Faraheit?” Misam laughed “Sure, yes we do unless something else has to be done.” “Plus,” added Misam “There is a river near their lair I am thinking they killed the elves and dumped their bodies there.”

“Now,” said Misam “I will teach you a bit of magic, from now on when we’re riding every hour I expect you to run fifteen minutes to gain more energy for spells you must over-exert yourself or become more fit.” Timaneus nodded “I suppose,” Misam said “I’ll find some rocks for you to lift each night to strengthen your muscles.” Timaneus shrugged “Alright,” Misam said “But for now we rest and spar.”

That night’s sparring session was ferocious, they faced each other the fire. Timaneus bound over and struck at Misam’s shoulder. Misam blocked the stroke then whipped around and swung, Timaneus ducked as the baton whipped past his head and thrust out. The blow caught Misam on the stomach winding him and sending him stumbling back. Timaneus jumped swung down, Misam stumbled out of the way, Timaneus growled and kicked at the back of Misam’s legs. Misam fell over and then before Timaneus could attack again he quickly got up and attacked back. Timaneus easily blocked a stroke to his head then he parried a blow again. Misam lashed out with his foot and caught Timaneus in the shins. He fell backwards and Misam raised his baton for another blow, Timaneus quickly did a quarter-staff parry (One hand on either side of the baton) and fended off the blow. He kicked Misam’s shins and Misam toppled over. They both regained their footing and charged again moving along the trees trading blows. After a long and tough session with Timaneus and Misam both landing blows on each-other but Misam still beating Timaneus they both unrolled their blankets and fell asleep.
