The Icy Hand of Winter

Outside my window it appeared
Cold, lifeless, yet to be feared

Its fingers stiff and oddly bent
Able to carry out its evil intent

Inside my house is toasty warm
Outside rages a violent storm

Should my safe cocoon disappear
"You're in my power," it'd sneer

"My fingers around your throat so tight
And you'll never see morning's light"

It's only an icicle of odd shape
That from the eave does drape

Nature's power it represents
Thus, man's arrogance prevents
