OUR HOPES OF GLORY

Poetry By: Frank Ramtahal
Fantasy

This is another poem from my anthology entitled THIS IS GUYANA. It was developed in January 1965 to encourage Guyanese to live in great expectation of better things to come in the future.

OUR HOPE OF GLORY

Turn thine glad eyes from Earth to Heaven,
For God thee everything has given;
Turn thine weary eyes from left to right,
There's hope of glory; unite and fight.
Turn thine burning eyes from East to West,
All that are good, we can go in quest;
Turn Guyana's soil, there we must sow -
A seed of unity - one to grow.

Throw out the darkness of this our land,
United we walk in common band;
Stamp out every slander and the spite,
Inhale the love of truth and of right;
In all things take up your moiety,
Wage war against crime and poverty;
Scoop up the sparkling dusts of gold,
There's joy to walk in a common fold.

Let vanquished be the sign of despair,
Gold is here but freedom everywhere;
The sun does shine a glorious light
O'er our people who unite and fight;
Peace! Peace! There's signs of liberty,
Joy forever! There's signs of liberty,
'Hold on! Things will change', never let fall,
Guyana for us , and God for all!
