Dare to be Free

Upon them shined the living light

From their nightmares they awakened

The choice was theirs:

To resume lingering between life and death

or dare to free themselves from desolation’s grip

and throw off the yoke of despair

For hours they weighed the risks

Then they shrugged their shoulders

and lifted their swords out of the dust

Their battle cry jolted the enemy’s ranks

Through the twilight they charged

The fiery arrows of Zornaden challenged their resolve

But their courage never faltered

and they fought their way over the crooked walls

Pouring out of the darkling city they cried, “Never again!”

Across the distance they fled and into the glare of lightning they melted

Some say the shadows of doubt devoured them

I prefer to believe they found refuge in their glorious uncertainty

Really powerful, lending good insight into the minds of those who fought against the flow. Good job!

I appreciate your compliments. Not to brag, but I was born to fight the flow of the status quo. The older I get, the more I feel the urge to do so.

Zornaden was a kingdom during the mytho-historic period of Ancient Amaron--an early epoch of the history of the peoples of the birthworld of the Kingdom of Amaron, which plays a huge role in the socio-cultural fabric of the peoples, worlds, and nations mentioned in the stories and related writings of The Ancient Circles Chainsaga. You may think that I am delusional, but I entertain what I believe are good reasons to assume that Amaronians influenced the early development of various cultures on our world--namely those of the Germanic, Celtic, and Semitic peoples, including the Aryans who invaded the Indus valley and India way back when.

Pratibha--wish harder, milady. Then take up your sword and shout, "Never again!" There is more in you than you dare believe...I know what it is to live in the shadow of fear. Courage is born in the desperation to act in spite of dread and apprehension. Do what you must no matter what and cling to the faith that it will all somehow work out. Believing strongly enough truly can move mountains and turn stones into loaves.
