Lightening flashes and
Thunder booms
As the raindrops slash
Through the dismal gloom
And a predator stalks
His chosen prey
Yet she hears nothing
Above the fray
He watches through
Preternatural eyes
As she gazes up
At the thunderous skies
Shivers dance
Up and down her spine
As he holds back
For the opportune time
Bowing slightly
Against the wind
His fangs itch
To pierce her skin
Swirling fog
Mars her vision
It is then that he makes
His final decision
With silent grace
He leaps to her side
And in her ear
He gently chides
“To be alone
Under a ruthless moon
Must be frightful
In this fog-filled gloom.”
Her surprise is marked
By a gasp of air
For the thunderous storm
She had not known he was there
A handbreadth away
And his patience gives
His nourishment he takes
No longer she lives
