Chapter 10: Tenshirou Moon Fails
Rook and Jack break away from a clash of their swords. Rook clutches at his injury.
Jack: This is fun, best fight I've had in a while. Surprising, considering the scouter didn't even pick up much on you. You must be a skilled player to fight so well with so little power.
Rook: (panting) Damn, he doesn't seem tired at all. All this and he's barely even tapped into his supply of energy,
Jack: Doesn't look like any of your friends are faring much better.
He looks around at the battlefield. A pile of bodies lie around Will, who pants heavily. A group of archers try to fire at Will, but James jumps into the air and fires his crossbow in rapid succession. Steaks of pure light energy fly mercilessly though the sky and into the archers, dropping them.
Another group of soldiers charge Osmond, who just swings his massive Halberd above his in circle like a propeller blade. All the soldiers drop dead around him. A group of soldiers try to fortify the entrance to the inner city by grouping around.
Militiaman: Don't let them through!
Ryan runs straight up to them, blades bouncing off his chest as they land, to the surprise of the Militiamen. The staff on his back glows and his arms glow with fire.
Ryan: Hoo-ya!
Ryan punches the ground at his feet with excessive force, and the entire area around him is covered in explosion, the ground rising and turning to rubble, fire erupting from underneath. The guards yell and fall to their deaths in the flames.
Jaime shoots a few guards with a weird laser gun in his hand. Guards hit with it begin melting where they are hit.
Austin K is on all fours, like a wolf, clawing and biting enemies, his body coated with blood.
A few guards try to attack Austin W, but they're attacks are reflected and sent back at themselves to their surprise. Austin W just smiles, a small coding of 1's and 0's directly in front of him.
A last group of guards makes a desperate run for the gate, but are blocked off by a wall of ice. They turn and see Maggie slowly walking towards them, the ground turning to ice as she steps on it.
Rook's eyes widen as he watches.
Rook: Damn! I never imagined we could lose so horribly! I need to find a way to beat this guy, now!
Jack: Beat me? I'm trying my best not to kill you, and you want to beat me?
Bane, Rent, and Tile arrogantly walk onto the scene of the battle.
Bane: Hey, Rook! You guys want some help? You owe us after this! Rent, Tile, let's teach these guys a lesson!
Rook: Wait! You guys have no idea what your doing!
Jack: Ha, this should be interesting.
Tile: So wait, what should we do now?
Bane: Fight! You idiots! Go! Get them!
Tile: Right! I knew that!
Tile sees Ryan a short distance away.
Tile: Ha! That guy thinks he knows muscle power! I'll show him!
He rushes at Ryan.
Tile: Let's start with my favorite wrestling move in this game! Tiger Rush!
He entire body takes the form of a tiger and connects with Ryan, but just bounces off. Ryan seems unphased, and Tile transforms back, lying flat on his back, blood dripping from his head.
Tile: Ow, what the hell? It was like charging into a brick wall!
Ryan looks down on him.
Ryan: Just not tough enough.
He lifts his leg up and stomps down on Tile, sending Tile crashing into the ground.
Rent, unaware of his friend's loss, tosses a large shield at Osmond. Osmond notices it and swats it out of the way with his Halberd.
Osmond: Hey! Gay asshole! Trying to hit me when I'm not looking!
Rent: My apologizes. I'll make sure to kill you while you can see me doing it!
Before he's even finished with his sentence, Osmond's already directly next to him and swings down on his with his Halberd, sending him backwards. A long trail of dust fills the area between where Osmond originally was and where he had quickly dashed too in the blink of an eye.
Rent: So you're a fast little midget! Makes no difference, you'll never break through my mighty shields!
Osmond is already behind him, and slams him again with his Halberd. He continues slamming him in this fashion, Rent unable to defend himself.
Rent: Ah, can't you see it's pointless? You can't break my shields!
Osmond slams him again, and the shields begin to crack.
Rent: What? My shields...they're supposed to not succumb to wear! That's their special ability! But somehow they've been getting weaker with each strike!
Osmond dashes at him and cuts him straight through the center, a single line slices straight through the shield armor and into Rent.
Osmond: That's what you get for using a gay strategy!
Bane sees both of them defeated. His eyes widen, frightened.
Bane: They...they didn't even stand a chance...who are these guys?
He turns to try to run. Will sees him.
Will: Where are you going! You think you can enter the battle and immediately leave!
Will charges straight at him, claws bared. Desperately, Bane turns and casts a spell.
Bane: The Scourge of Hell Itself! Eternal Flames!
Will is completely engulfed in a massive fireball that lights up the entire battlefield in its intense light.
Bane: Hah! I got him!
Will comes charging psychotically out of the fire, like a demon. His armor looks a little burnt, but otherwise seems unharmed.
Will: You bastard! You just tried to kill me, didn't you!? DIDN'T YOU!?
Bane: What the hell?!
Will impales Bane through the chest, his claws going out his back, then tossed Bane into his own flames.
Will: No one tries to eliminate me from this contests! NO ONE!
Melanie is watching from a perch on top of the barely standing wall.
Melanie: Hey! That guy, Bane, was my mark! Damn, he had some one-of-a-kind equipment on him.
She smiles.
Melanie: So how will this guy make it up to me? He's strong, but very over-emotional. An easy mark.
She leaps down from her post, landing neatly on Will's head.
Will: Huh?!
She looks down on him from on his head.
Melanie: Hey there, how's it going?
Will: GET OFF OF ME YOU SKANK!
He tries to claw up on top of his head, but can't see his target and swings blindly. She catches his hands and removes the claw-gloves from them.
Melanie: These look rare. They shall do nicely.
She leaps off and jumps back over the wall in a single leap.
Will: MY GLOVES! YOU HOR!
He tries to go after her, but the gate has been reinforced by many guards.
Will: DAMN YOU BASTARDS OUT OF MY WAY!
He starts beating guards off him with his bare fists. His face becomes a twisted expression of anger, veins of blood popping out everywhere on his face.
Standing in the center of the battle, but not fighting, Phil-domo and Kyler watch.
Phil: He's no good to us in such an enraged state...go calm him down, would you?
Kyler: Sure thing.
He walks calms towards the enraged Will, strumming his guitar.
Oscar and Iricryo can see the entire battle outside through the gate.
Oscar: Damnit! How can we just stand here like this!
Iricryo: We don't stand a chance against these guys. Best we stay here.
Oscar: But if the Militia loses, these guys will probably just kill us all anyway! We have to help!
He charges into the battle.
Iricryo: Stupid kid! Well, maybe if he dies, I can get those Gloves of Tenshirou from his body.
He follows after him.
Oscar rushes forward, the first person he sees is Ryan, who back is turned to a group of soldiers.
Oscar: An unsuspecting target! He'd beat my ass if I tried to really fight him, so I'll have to try to finish this in one blow!
He rushes forward as silently as he can, but as he reaches Ryan pounces.
Oscar: TENSHIROU MOON!
The attack connects with Ryan, but just halts on his skin, the gloves reflected and the attack broken.
Oscar: What the-!?
Ryan: Not bad, kid.
He turns around and looks at Oscar.
Ryan: But if you want to do some damage after a leap, you gotta put some real jump in your punch! Like this!
He jumps high into the air, the ground around him collapsing. His staff glows and his hands are surrounded by a wind.
Ryan: AERIAL BARRAGE!
He drops downward and hits Oscar square across the face with his fist. Oscar is knocked into the ground and a crater forms around him from the impact of the punch.
Ryan examines the crater.
Ryan: Out after only one hit? You need to work on some muscle!
Iricryo watched the scene from a slight distance.
Iricryo: What? The Gloves of Tenshirou are supposed to cut through any matter! How did they fail?
Maggie walks up coolly behind him.
Maggie: See something interesting?
Iricryo flips around quickly and jumps backwards. He looks nervously at Maggie.
Maggie: Are you another one from that stupid guy's group who promised to teach us a lesson? You really should have stuck out of Militia matters, we had no intention of fighting civilians. Well, guess it's too late now.
Ice begins to form around her legs.
Iricryo: Damnit! I shouldn't have followed that kid out here.
He pulls out his rapier.
Iricryo: DIAMOND DR-
Before he can even finish saying his attack's name he is frozen in a solid ice block.
Maggie: Hmph, that should do for now. No need to kill non-Militia.
Rook looks on at the battle. Most of the Militia lay dead, and the remaining few are rushing back into the gate.
Militiaman: Retreat! Evacuate the civilians!
Rook: Damnit, have we really lost? To a handful of players? This is absurd!
He faces Jack bravely.
Rook: I won't be so quick to give up.
Jack: God, you're annoying. I hate killing other players, you know, I do have a conscience, unlike a lot of my team. That's the only reason you're alive now. But if you won't give up...
Rook: Guess I'll have to try to use it. Hope my sword can handle it, I've never tried it before in real combat.
Jack: So are you sure you really want to go through with finishing this?
Rook's sword begins to glow blood red. The blade completely vanishes into a blood red aura.
Jack's shield-shaped earring begins to glow and shake.
Jack: Huh?
Rook: Blood Fountain!
Thousands of sword-blades formed of blood shoot out of the ground around Jack and all hurtle into him. There is a massive collision, and a fountain forms from the blood, stretching up into the sky.
Rook: Did I get him?
Jack looks down on him from the top of a nearby building. The entire area he had jumped from is destroyed by blade marks.
Jack: What the hell? That's a Rank 1 Move! This guy's level isn't even noteworthy on the scouter and yet he knows a move like that! Unfortunately, this means he too dangerous to this battle to be left alive.
He jumps down from the building and lands next to Rook.
Jack: Guess I have to finish this after all.
Rook: (in thought) Damnit...I don't have any energy left after that attack...I can't defend myself...
High atop a mountain overlooking the city, a figure stands. Flames, smoke, and debris can be seen rising up into the air from the city.
Figure: Looks like my decision to return early was fortunate.
The figure is shown in full portrait. He is older, around 40, his face somewhat worn looking. He wears bright, shiny, full white, plate armor and helm, though the helm has been cut out around the face. He is built incredibly well. He has grey hair that falls down as bangs right above his eyes. Across his back he wears a pole-arm, the holster of which is branded with the insignia of the Player's Militia.
Graider: Any later and there may not have been any city left to save,
A title flashes under him displaying, "General Graider, Founder and Leader of the Player's Militia. Specialty: Noble Abilities."
