Video Games have advanced to a point where they have full virtual reality capabilities. The first game to use this system launches a massive promotion with one hell of a hook: Last person standing wins a cash prize of 100 million dollars. Twenty thousand lucky contestants are chosen for this launch, and the game begins.

Enter Oscar. Having the unfortunate fate of his character being released into the game late through an error, Oscar has to play catch up if he wants his chance at the prize. But in a game in which everyone’s goal appears to be the same, who can you trust to help you? Oscar will have to fight his way through corrupt alliances of players, thieves, murderers, and nut-jobs if he wants to win.

Of course, things aren’t always what they seem, and Oscar might want to keep his head down if he doesn’t want to accidentally get involved in some of the darker secrets of the game.

Chapter 18: Assault from the Air!

Rido comes crashing down again. Oscar manages to jump clear away from the impact of the attack this time. Oscar attempts to charge at the Rido, but only a moment after the impact, Rido is back up in the air again.

Oscar: Damn, he jumps so fast! There’s no time to attack him while his on the ground!

Rido comes crashing down again, and Oscar is once again able to avoid it, this time by a greater distance.

Rido: What the hell? Is it just me or is this kid getting faster with each attack?

Rido jumps into the air again.

Oscar: This jewel-thing Sarah gave me must really be working…I’m feeling less and less tired.

Rido: Let’s see you avoid this one! Rido Special! Homing Bowling Ball Roll!

Oscar once again jumps out of the way as Rido comes crashing down, but this time Rido’s balled-up self rolls across the ground it lands at an incredible speed towards Oscar. Oscar is hit, and is sent flying into a wall. He crashes hard against it, then collapses face first onto the ground.

Rido: Haha! You see! No one knows how to combat my abilities! They are all one of a kind!

Oscar pulls himself up on one knee.

Oscar: One of a kind? What do you mean…I’m sure someone else out there has to be able to use those moves…there are only so many moves in the game.

Rido: You really don’t know much about the systems of this game, do you? You probably haven’t created a single custom move.

Oscar: Custom move?

Rido: To promote individuality among the players and to make the world more in-depth, the programs allowed moves to be customizable. You can take moves you already know and train them to give them different abilities, and even combine different customized moves to form new customized moves. Addition of different equipment and other abilities can further customize those moves. Because of this, many players are able to do abilities that are nothing like the moves they started with. My entire move set is completely custom!

Oscar: Oh, well that explains it.

Rido: Explains what?

Oscar: Why such a stupid ability like jumping in the air and crashing back down even exists. For a while there I thought the programmers were the idiots who made it, but it turns out it was just you.

Rido: S-Stupid! How dare you! I worked tirelessly to make this move set work the way I wanted! I mean, look at how much jewelry I wear!

He points at all the necklaces around his neck.

Rido: Do you know how many times I had to stack jumping-bonuses and weight modifiers to get it to work right!?

 Oscar: No, I don’t. And I really don’t care.

Oscar is back up on two feet, his energy once again recovered.

Oscar: Seeing as it will all be useless against me anyway!

Sarah and Guki are still facing off.

Guki: I have to say, I really never expected to see you here again. I thought after you realized your luck last time you won’t attempt to test fortune again.

Sarah: Last time may have been luck, but I’ve been preparing to get back at all of you for some time now, and now I’m finally strong enough to do it.

Guki: The only person to kill a Spidersilk and escape Drywood. You couldn’t just be happy with that? You know, it’s because you killed my partner that now I’m stuck with this idiot Rido, who we recruited right afterward.

Sarah: Well, we can talk about old times all day, or we can fight.

Guki: Your funeral.

He rushes towards Sarah, running with his body completely straight. She raises her hand and engulfs everything in a straight line towards him in flames. He jumps over the fire casually, and continues running over the fire as if the fire was a floor. He tries to kick Sarah across the side of the face, but she ducks. He lands right behind her, and does a sweeping kick across the floor. Sarah is caught by it, and is sent to the ground on her back. Guki puts his foot against Sarah’s throat.

Guki: Looks like you were just about right about the length of the fight, just wrong about the winner.

As he presses his foot down against Sarah’s throat, the ground under Sarah rises rapidly, creating a pillar of rock. The sudden jolt upwards trips Guki, and flips backwards as he falls off and lands on his feet. Sarah gets up at the top of the pillar and looks down.

Sarah: I should have the advantage from up here. And I positioned this pillar out of the view of the sniper, so I should have the time to do what I need.

She begins to charge up energy above her, raising her hands in the air. Lighting and fire begin to spark in her hands.

Guki: Nice try.

He charges straight up the pillar, completely defying gravity, running with his body just as straight as if he was running on flat ground. He lands at the top of the pillar and smiles. Sarah looks completely shocked.

Guki: Sorry, no way I’m going to let you finish charging that.

He kicks her in the gut, and she loses her focus on her attack and drops her arms. He kicks her again across her side, knocking her off the pillar. She falls helplessly to the ground. Guki jumps off the pillar, leg aimed to kick the down Sarah as he lands. Sarah aims her hands straight upwards, and a gust of wind blows upwards pushing Guki back up into the air and causing him to crash against the pillar. The pillar collapses, taking Guki with it. Sarah get back up.

Sarah: Did that get him?

Guki walks out of the pile of rubble left by the pillar.

Guki: So you do have a little fight in you, huh? You certainly weren’t this powerful last time we met. If you don’t run for your life like you did last time, this should be an interesting rematch.

Sarah: I have no intention of running.

Rido jumps in the air again, and Oscar watches him, trying to predict where he will land.

Rido: Dodge this if you can! Either way, you’re going to be hit! Homing Bowling Ball Roll!

Oscar: You have the stupidest names for your attacks!

Oscar jumps out of the way, avoiding the impact of crash. Rido comes rolling towards Oscar. Oscar turns the other way and runs.

Rido: What’s wrong? I thought you wanted to fight!

Oscar: Just…a little…further…

Oscar is running at his fullest speed. At the last second as Rido is about to hit him, Oscar dodge-rolls out of the way quickly.

Rido: Huh?

A cage rises in front of Rido, and Rido crashes into it, face-first. The cage encloses around Rido. Rido falls back, dizzy marks in his eyes, and a stream of blood running from his nose.

Oscar: Hah! Made you run into one of your own traps!

Rido gets up, looking pissed.

Rido: You…think that’s funny! Just because you managed to trick me once! I won’t fall for the same trick twice!

Rido jumps, bursting through the top of the cage as he does. He lands at the top of one of a nearby building.

Rido: I’m not playing around anymore! Now you’re going to get the full front of my abilities!

He hooks himself up to the building by dropping a chain from his back that digs into the building.

Oscar: What’s he doing?

Rido jumps from the building, curling himself up into the ball for his attack like always and crashing towards the ground. Oscar jumps out of the way, sliding away from the attack across the ground.

Oscar: Is he going to come rolling towards me again?

The chain pulls at Rido, sending him immediately back up into the air.

Oscar: What the hell?

Rido: The true potential of my custom style! Rido Special! Aerial Assault Yo-Yo!

Rido crashes into the ground around Oscar, is pulled back by the chain, and crashes again, all within a second of each other, and the process continues. Oscar is able to dodge the first crash, jumping over the impact, and he back flips away from the second impact. As he is landing from the flip, a third impact causes him to lose his footing, and he is hit straight on by the third attack. It sends him flying back, and he goes sliding across the ground.

Rido: The End!

He crashes dead on where Oscar landed, and there is a colossal eruption across the ground.
