The moon gleams through a shifting ballet of clouds. A blazing
star sparkles nearby. A watchful owl circles.
Traffic mumbles. Rain drops blur our vision. A grid of streets
Our heart thumps. We gasp for breath. We hang upsidedown.
A sure hand grips our ankle. It belongs to an equally robust
arm. The wrist is bordered by a crisp tailored white shirt cuff.
Just say the magic words.
PASTOR BUCK (V.O.)
It is not I that stands in your
way. It is the curse I protect you
Hocus pocus. And what's that you
get up to on a Friday night down on
PASTOR BUCK (V.O.)
Your petty blackmail will not halt

BOSTON BRAKES. Heavy set owner of said robust arm dangles one
crusty, booze-eyed PASTOR from the towering belfry veranda.
The Pastor's eyes bulge at the imminent multistory drop.
I know who have you've been talking
to. He's Here. I can sense him.
Sheltering from the downpour, Boston's backup HARRY TEMPEST
anxiously looks on. Some indistinct object clutched in his

The Pastor stink-eyes Boston, as an archer would his target.
A man who won't die for something
is not fit to live.
Fair enough. Three. Two. One.
Boston releases the Pastor who swiftly plummets earthward.
Do your worst. Try and build your
goddamned skyscraper. To hell with
you. All heil the great Jabber
The Pastor tumbles.
That sounded like a yes to me
Ice-cool, Boston grabs the implement from Harry and hooks it to
the wobbly balustrade.
Down below the Pastor heads for a railing spike. Clamps his eyes
shut and prays like he's born again. Suddenly he slows and stops
in mid air. Vomits.
There's a vice-like pressure around his ankle. A strap? A rope?
Stretching? A bungee rope? Bastards!
Boston calmly leans forward as the terrified Pastor rebounds
skyward. The Pastor narrowly misses the ancient bell overhead
before Boston shoots a hand out and seizes him.
You tricked me. I'll trick you
We're facilitators not murderers.
You're a hired thug who can't get a
Boston yanks the huffing Pastor back onto his feet. Earns a
blast of puke breath.
Boston reaches down and unties the bungee rope. Harry steps
forward and thrusts a sheet of paper and a pen at the purple
faced man. A contract.
This document passes ownership of
the building to our employer. Sign
here and here.
You've piped up have you? Cowering
from the rain? Pathetic.
I have a medical condition.
You do indeed. You're brain dead.
Points at the contract.
Is that all spelled properly?
You mean spelt.
The Pastor eyeballs Harry menacingly.
It's you that needs a lesson in
spells. You'll do nicely.
The Pastor snarls. Grabs the pen. Squiggles. Harry snatches the
sheet of paper back from the Pastor.
You have a week to vacate.
Boston smugly hands the Pastor a silver Whiskey flask.
This might help take away the
The Pastor drinks. Suddenly he rushes to a large hour glass in
the shadows. Rotates it.
I'll give you one hour.
He spins to face them. Wild-eyed. Stabs his right index finger
at them. The rain dwindles to a mist.
Sting and sing rhyme,
And for your crime,
At the appointed time,
To save you from harm,
You need to charm,
The Siren to banish the effects
Of the hex,
I set upon thee now.
The duo remain unimpressed. The Pastor fumbles in a pocket.
A magic mirror, the enchanted comb
and the two gold coins. The clue is
a star of five.
The Pastor sucks down a slug of Whiskey. He rushes toward the
pair, lighter held near his mouth.
He spits a torrent of flames narrowly missing them. Boston and
Harry slam the belfry door and flee via the stairwell.
Surly gargoyles eye Harry and Boston's rushed exit through the
twin pillars of the gothic Church's arched doorway. Their
panting breath hangs in frigid air.
Well. You see something new every
day on this job.
Furiously shrieking from the belfry Buck points out a distant
There he is. He's hacked my spell.
Boston and Harry whirl to see who Buck is pointing at.
TRULLAM, a shuffling vagrant wheezes along Temple Street
obscured by troubling shadows and drippy mist. He whistles
Hey. You two. Over here. Quick.
He's begun the rite. It's too late.
Is this place full of nuts or what?
Boston and Harry keep walking.
Stout, well-manicured male fingers drum on an expensive mahogany
desk. A gold pinky ring displays a faded pentacle.
The contract rests to the right of the digits, as if discarded.
VALENTINE CHEVALIER makes for an oddly riveting sight. A persona
swathed in gloom. His squat visage is blush and pockmarked.
Combined with tonight's unflattering bespoke shirt, his outline
suggests that of a toad.
He speaks in a gruff baritone. The type you feel obliged to
He signed it. Job done. Why kill
him if you have what you want?
The bungee was my idea.
Valentine holds the contract up. No signatures.
Like I said originally, there is a
very specific reason that man was
not meant to live past tonight.
But he signed the thing. Twice. We
Valentine hoists a generous whiskey over ice from it's desk
drawer hiding place and plunks it on the deck.
Sweat beads Valentine's brow. His face flushes slowly as if
trying hard to contain a volcanic explosion.
About an hour ago you said?
Veins suddenly bulge and burst from his neck. Raises a gold
plated handgun. Boston reacts by aiming his own pistol.
A black wash sweeps over Valentine's eyeballs.
No. Not like this.
He fires. Bang. Blows Boston's head away. Blood sprays the
ceiling. Walls. Turns to Harry. Who ducks a bullet. Harry grabs
Boston's gun. Blows Valentine's head up the wall.
Harry writhes on the floor. Clutches at his stomach. Passes out.
Someone outside hammers on the door.
Dawn light silhouettes the distant city. A makeshift campfire
crackles. Firelight skitters across a huddle of dozing shapes.
You're awake then? Good morning.
This is your lucky day.
Someone sniggers. Harry stirs.
What's going on? Where's this? Who
are you? Oh no. Poor Boston.
Harry checks his pockets.
Damn. My phone and wallet are gone.
An educated guess would surmise
that you're alive. A good start.
Harry scans the group. Recognises Trullam.
You again? I shot someone.
No. That was Buck's sorcery. I
piggybacked on his spell with my
own. Otherwise we'd be stuck here
You did what? How come you know so
We are the true high Priests. That
building you were in used to be
ours. The church is a front. The
active part is underground. The
Temple of the street name.
Offers Harry a water bottle.
Buck was one of us. Long ago. He
learned the arts. Changed sides.
Then he did to us what he does to
everyone who crosses him. Now we
can only leave the city limits
Look. I just went there to get a
contract signed for my boss.
No. That was a red herring to get
Harry swirls down some water.
If he hates you so much why didn't
he just take you out?
Because we are a living library of
the ancient knowledge. And we know
where the vault for the stolen
temple gold is located. He thinks
if he torments us long enough we'll
give it up. He was waiting for the
alignment to suck our brains dry
and finish us off for good.
Valentine knew of this. That's why
he wanted Buck dead. Then you
So Valentine was helping you?
A figure passes by. Touches Harry's ear.
Hey man, could you stop doing that?
Gypsies. Touching you for luck.
Tonight's Rabbit Moon. A rare
astrological event. You couldn't
have arrived at a more auspicious
Something is a miss. Harry frowns.
A question? Come with me.
Trullam shines a torch at Harry.
The change is almost complete.
Harry peers at the flickering surface. Staring back is a Rabbit
outlined by moonlight.
They've put me in a costume?
Touches his face.
Jokes over. How do I get it off?
It's no joke. You have to find the
Siren. Vessica Piscis.
She will help you. It's part of the
event. You've not much time.
Harry backs away from the water.
Trullam's tone is urgent.
You can leave the city. Go to Venom
Lakes and reverse the spell. You'll
turn ours too. We can return to our
rightful place. And Buck to his.
What are you talking about? I won't
last five minutes out there looking
like a freak show.
The rhyme he used. Do you recall?
Something about an appointed time.
Some coins and a comb.
Harry's hands shake.
The enchanted comb, two gold coins
and the magic mirror. You have to
charm her and she will tell you
where to find the Grimoire. It's a
book of rather potent incantations.
You will find your spell inside.
That's only part of it.
By giving her the items I
mentioned. The ritual must be done
at a very precise hour.
Trullam pokes Harry's arm to win his drifting attention.
Hey. Ticking clock bud. That's how
you fit into this. I made you a
rabbit. Not him. In your parlance I
hacked his spell. Only a man rabbit
can pass along this road.
Dawn light unveils a dewy mist. Harry stares blankly. His head
is two thirds rabbit.
We got your car. You can just drive
there and cross via the ferry. What
matters is that the alignment lasts
only eight minutes and will not
reoccur for another twenty six
thousand, two hundred and eighty
Trullam clutches a black velvet pouch.
No pressure then?
You're a facilitator aren't you?
BY THE FIRE
Trullam shows Harry a map.
Know anything of Magick? The
precession of the equinoxes?
I know a form of hands-on magic
that seems to get results.
This is going to take some time
then. Look. This is where we found
the comb. Coins. Mirror.
Bird song breaks the hush.
The first item was in the Church to
begin with. One five three Temple
Street. Because originally it was a
Temple. It's built on a Ley Line
junction. Where you're going is
here. Venom Lakes where the Dragon
protects the Sirens. These points
represent the elements.
As in earth, water. What are the
Trullam draws the shape of a man spread-eagled on the map,
joining up the points in a pentagram shape.
Have you ever heard the term,
"Every man and every woman is a
No. So the places were laid out in
the shape of a man?
No, the configuration. It's called
a pentagram. The five points each
represent one of the five elements
that make up man: fire, water, air,
earth, and psyche. Each location
corresponds to one point. When the
planets align later it releases a
huge amount of energy which we can
tap into using you. See, the
pentagram is a symbol of the
microcosm. That is why Adam Kadmon
is called the microcosmic star. The
pentagram also represents the
Savior of the World, the Word of
the Gods made flesh. I could go on.
Harry's confused. Throws up his hands.
Please don't. The water is going to
be a problem.
That's your challenge.
It's a medical condition.
It's a hurdle by which you will
temper yourself. All part of the
greater scheme. Temper. Tempest.
See? Think of it as an initiation.
Trullam lights the lantern using a stick from the fire's flame.
Give it to the Ferryman. The items
in the pouch to her. The alignment
is at seven thirty PM. Vessica
will lead you to the correct
location. I know you don't
understand. You will have to trust
me. And hurry. There are different
lores of time here.
Hands Harry the pouch and lantern.
VENOM LAKE WOODS
Harry slides out of his car. Into broad darkness. Lantern held
VENOM LAKE SHORE
Full moon silhouettes the suited man Rabbit. Unseen creatures
Harry takes in the view. Nibbles on dandelion leaf. Realizes
what he's doing. Tosses the leaves. Examines folded note paper.
Through the murk. A distant Island.
Distant thunder rumbles. A battle-scarred long boat named
Gematria bobs gently. No Ferryman.
Water, water everywhere.
A Duck lands on the water. Preens its wing. A log floats nearby.
Closes on the Duck. The end opens into a point. Spears the Duck.
Lifts the skewered bird toward the log's other end. That opens
into a man-sized mouth, jagged teeth and all.
The hulk takes a long look at Harry.
Barbecued rabbit coming right up.
Spits a huge flame upward. Illuminates the entire lake. Harry
stands his ground.
Harry spots movement on the Island. Darkness returns as the
A bony finger pokes Harry. He whirls around ready to strike with
the lantern. Stops dead. A gnarled FERRYMAN. Flinty eyeballs.
Black monk-like robe. Wooden staff.
Evening. A bit slow tonight.
Chuckles. Pushes his face an inch from Harry's.
If I hadn't seen it with my own
eyes I wouldn't have believed it.
Aren't you blind?
Getting there. Got the dosh? Not
got all night you know. I mean.
Talk about rushed off me feet.
More laughter. Harry hands him one coin. Beneath his gown
dangles a bottle. Offers it to Harry.
Need a hit? You look like you could
do with one.
Titters. Takes a huge gulp. Belches.
No, I'm good.
That's what she's expecting.
Ferryman takes Harry's lantern. Hops aboard. Hangs it at the
front on it's own pole. Harry follows. Unsteady. Almost falls
in. Jumps back to the jetty.
No. You don't want to do that yet.
Believe me. I should know.
Ferryman waits. Harry paces.
I can't. I just cannot do this. I'm
just glad it's not...
...no. Don't say it.
A light rain descends. Ferryman shakes his head.
Thank you so much. How about I feed
you to Asmodeus? Roasted Rabbit
Harry boards. Ferryman casts off.
Some thug you are.
I'm no thug. I just do the talking.
Wave-like forms shadow the boat's progress.
Here they come.
They? More than one? Can you see
I look through this eye.
Ferryman stabs his forehead.
You will acquire that skill. You
Ferryman steadies the boat while Harry takes a running jump.
Lands knee-deep in the mud flat.
Is this poison too?
Not really. And yes there are more
than one. Seven in fact. Their
tails become legs when they're on
land. If you're ever wondering.
Ferryman takes a long slurp.
Hurry. You have thirty minutes.
Time's a strange beast here.
Throws Harry the lantern. Harry catches it. Struggles to dry
ground. Turns. Ferryman has vanished.
The rain washes mud down his trouser legs.
Harry scans around for cover.
Need to dry off?
Startled, Harry whips around. Confronted by Asmodeus. Half
A quick blow from me and you'll be
dry in no time.
Flame jets the bank, incinerating foliage.
Do what thou wilt.
Good. Because I'm hungry.
Asmodeus inhales, ready to shrivel Harry to a crisp.
A gentle voice catches them both off-guard.
If I were you Asmodeus I'd stick to
your vegetarian diet.
Harry's lantern reveals seven oddly beautiful MERMAIDS headed by
Asmodeus darts away.
And you are? Mr Rabbit man.
Sniggering the nubile sirens circle and brush against him
eagerly. Semi-transparent gowns barely worth wearing. Hands
poke, prod, pull and push at his body, face and head. A hand
gropes down his trousers.
Hey, watch the crown jewels.
(to Vessica )
The women giggle. Back off and gently rise a few inches from the
ground. They glide to Vessica and melt into her.
Vessica shakes awake. Refreshed. Focused.
We act as one. You will learn of
this afterwards. Do you know what
you are doing here?
Not obvious then?
I brought your things. I was told
you could help me. With this curse.
You come as a cursed rabbit?
Vessica turns to leave.
Hang on. I can't stay like this.
Just tell me where the Grimoire is.
Vessica whirls around. Curious.
You're misinformed. The book to
which you refer was burned long
ago. I'd get used to carrot living
if I were you.
She vanishes. The light from Harry's lantern fades.
Harry checks the pouch. Extracts the mirror. Studies his face.
You need a shave buddy.
Where did you get that?
Harry dangles the mirror over a rock.
What? This little thing? Be a shame
for it to smash wouldn't it.
Vessica rushes forward. The six women appear. All anxiously
circle Harry. Each wear a different hue. Red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo and violet.
Who are they? Why do they all look
These are me. They are aspects.
Moods if you will. Can I see that
now? I have not seen a mirror for
hundreds of years.
I have more stuff for you. Where's
the damned book?
Harry pretends to drop the mirror.
No. Please. You don't understand.
Harry raises the mirror, ready to drop it. A siren faints.
You bargain well sir. In the lake.
Asmodeus guards the book. Only one
of us can take you there. I will
take you. Please give me the
Harry eyes the lake.
No way. I am not diving into a Lake
Just a name to scare the humans
away. It's true designation is
Emerald Mere, as in mere-maid.
Mistranslation makes it Venom Lake.
Another Mermaid appears. Takes the mirror and comb from Harry.
Your fear must be overcome through
your own efforts. Or you will be
stuck here for one thousand years.
With us. As a rabbit.
Harry ponders. Too late. Vessica grabs Harry with super mermaid
strength. She launches head-long into the water dragging Harry
with her. Sloosh. Her legs transform into a fish-like tail.
Harry panics, writhes, tries to swim upward. Starts to drown.
Vessica talks through the water.
Breath the water in. Do it. You
have been chosen for this Harry.
He breaths. Does not cough. He calms.
You are about to discover what a
very special human being you are.
She plunges downward. Harry and the other Mermaids follow her
down through a writhing forest of river weed. They sing and
chant their eerie melody.
Curiously luminous. Asmodeus awaits.
At last. You are the key Harry.
After an eternity you have
facilitated another to replace me.
Asmodeus hands over a shell encrusted slab.
I have one more duty to perform.
And so do you.
Rumbling. A distant muted light tints the sky. A huge planet
fades into view, dwarfing the moon.
Torch light quivers in a ghostly wind. Harry is circled by
Vessica and the other Mermaids. Their eerie chorus hangs in the
air. One of the Mermaids reflects the planet's light onto him
using the mirror. Vessica watches for the right moment.
Read from the book Harry. Now. Now.
Harry recites the incantation aloud. From above Asmodeus spits
clouds of flame as he launches high above the lake. The Mermaids
dance wildly, drunk on the energy.
Slant ad leporem aestus avertere et
staturas suo loco vis...
A beam of light sparks from the mirror at Harry. Suddenly he
crumples. Writhes and convulses on the ground. His face bubbles
and spits. Mermaids circle him chanting the spell.
A shower of sparkling light illuminates the island. Harry and
the Mermaids appear translucent for a long moment.
The writhing stops. All is calm. He stands. Fingers his face.
The rabbit skin and ears peel away like a scab. His real face
revealed. Mermaids crowd closely. Anxious. Relieved.
Vessica shows him the mirror. He's back to normal.
That's me. It's done.
The curse is broken. You are free.
We are free.
The showering light bathes Trullam and his priests. Performing a
ritual they move within a stone circle. Trullam raises a
The spell is returned from whence

He stabs the blade skyward.
Pastor Buck screams. Tumbles down the Church steps. Dragged by
an invisible force. Hands clasped to his face. Rabbit ears
sprout from his head. Whiskers burst through his cheeks. A
rabbit tail through his pants.
Overhead Asmodeus circles. Belching flames he swoops like a
