Skytopia Far away in a distant galaxy, billions of years ago, there was a great land. The name of this great land was Skytopia. Skytopia was the home of the most powerful gods in the universe. These gods were the biggest, strongest, fittest, and most competitive race of the entire galaxy. They loved to compete among one another, for they believed “those who prosper, are those who win.” This was a golden rule of sorts among the Skytopian people. The Skytopian sports complex was the most revered place in all of Skytopia. It was somewhat sacred. There were swimming pools, basketball courts, and football fields a plenty. These sat all around the complex in a perfect square, as the Skytopians were very fickle on the subject of complete order and balance. In the center of the complex sat a baseball field. This was the most well kept field of any in the universe. One should not take this in such a way that it is perceived as though the other fields were not well kept. The other fields were stunning. The baseball field however was literally breathtaking. Those who were not worthy of entering immediately became short of breath upon their entrance. However, if one was worthy of admittance they were in for the treat of a lifetime. The field was a baseball lovers paradise. The sky was a magnificent pearl blue, the grass a deep rich green, and dirt so soft that one may wish to lie down for a nap upon it. Mickias was the son of Michaelis. Michaelis was the god of love. Phillipius was the son of Phillipis. Phillipis was the god of power. The god of all the galaxy was named Bora. Bora had a son by the name of Borealis. Zachus was the son of Zacharus. Zacharus was the god of speed. Each son had the same traits as their fathers. These traits determined which position each would play in baseball, as baseball was considered the sport of the gods. Mickias’s father was the god of love. His passion and love for the game enabled him to pitch with astounding resolve. Phillipius’s power gave him the strength and endurance to play catcher. Borealis’s father was the god of the entire galaxy, and he literally had confidence out of this world. Borealis thus took it upon himself to be the batter. Batting was the most glorified aspect of baseball to the people of Skytopia. Zachus was as fast as lightning. He played in the outfield. His blazing speed allowed him to cover ground very quickly. Due to their immense amount of talent, admittance into the Skytopian baseball field was a given. One day as the boys were playing, Mickias struck out Borealis. Borealis was not accustomed to this feeling of failure. His extreme confidence drove him to try over and over again, but he just couldn’t hit the ball. Borealis called a timeout and thought to himself. He had to hit the ball, failure was not an option. In frustration he hit his bat against the ground. As he did this the ground below opened up. Borealis leaned down and peered inside the hole. His eyes proclaimed the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. A golden bat lay there on a pedestal glistening. However, there was hot lava surrounding it. Borealis reached down ignoring the lava and fell. When he finally emerged from the hole he wiped the surprisingly cool lava off of him. As he dried his head he felt something sharp. He had grown horns. Borealis walked back to the field as if nothing had ever happened and the game resumed. Mickias wound up and threw the ball with all his might. Borealis swung the bat. The crack of the huge skyscraper sized bat against the planet size ball was earth shattering. The ball shot through the Skytopian air. Zachus ran as fast as he could to catch up with the ball. As the ball raced through the sky it caught fire. When Zachus reached out to catch the ball, it burned his right hand. Zachus fell to the ground in pain and died. The boys watched in astonishment as the flaming ball flew through the atmosphere out of sight. Borealis stood in triumph at home plate with an evil grin on his face. The great gods knew of Borealis’s deed. He had taken the forbidden bat from the underworld and caused the death of Zachus. Borealis was sentenced to eternity in the underworld he had created. The spirit of Zachus was lifted from his body to follow and watch over the ball. He was to be god of this ball. He would rule it’s eventual life forms with his burned right hand. The spirit of Zachus took the magical dirt from the baseball field, the pure water of the swimming pool, and a chunk of the magnificent blue Skytopian sky. He also took his two favorite toys. First, a huge orange ball he played with at the Skytopian beach, which would provide day for his new planet. Secondly, he took a yellow frisbee that glowed in the dark, and this was to provide night. His spirit then sprinkled the pure water over the flaming ball to extinguish the flames. He then covered the rest in the magical dirt. Lastly the spirit wrapped the ball in the chunk of Skytopian sky. Now the ball was definitely a fitting place for life to survive.
