Spell Bound

For Haley Elizabeth's Fantasy Picture Contest- Becca was a lonely witch. She only wanted to be loved by Lance Kilpatrick. When Becca finds a box that held a crystal ball and a book of love spells, she was driven by her love for Lance to cast a love spell on him to make him love only her. Hundreds of years ago the box was buried never to be found. But Becca found it and cast a spell on Lance. It was forbidden to use love spells, but that was hundreds of years ago. Becca cast the spell and put Emerald City back into chaos. Will her spell work, or will it back-fire as it did years ago.

Becca was seventeen, lonely and wanted to be loved. She was tired of searching for love and only ending up getting hurt. She had a secret crush on an eighteen year old human by the name Lance Kilpatrick. Lance was rich and popular. Becca grew up in Emerald City in a small village outside the city limits. Her family was poor, but they managed to make ends meets. Though money was tight, Becca's parents made sure she had all the things a young witch could possibly need. The only thing was.. Becca wanted Lance, and her parents couldn't give him to her.

It was forbidden to cast love spells because of a century old rule. Thousands of years ago, Emerald City was hit with deadly chaos after a love spell backfired and caused the city much destruction. The occupants of thecity wentwild and destructive, leading to the disruption of peace amongst the city. Cats chased dogs. Fishswam backwards, and people were chasing other people because they were spell bound and hit with the desire to love another. Strange things had happened and it was months before the city was back to order. The leader of Emerald City put a ban on love spells. Anyone caught casting any kind of love spell would be severely punished. He ordered to have all love spells and crystal balls destroyed. Only one book of spells and a single crystal ball survived the years of weather, and Becca found them.

Becca and her cat Solomon walked the trails of Emerald forest. She was bored and decided to take a swin in Emerald pond. The pond was deep in the forest and not many people would journey there. The forest was dark and scary. A large boulder hung high above the pond, a perfect spot to jump off into the coolness of the clear water. Beneath the water near the edge, Becca noticed something shining amongst the rocky bottom.

She crawled off the boulder and went to check it out. She reached in and grabbed the box. It looked very old, but in perfect shape. Around the edges were rubies and pearls. She knew she had found something very special.

Becca brushed her long brown hair from her eyes, found a cool shady spot beneath a weeping willow tree and sat down. Solomon sat down across from her, he too was curious as to what was inside.

She slowly opened the box. Inside was a crystal ball and a book. She looked at Solomon and smiled. " I knew this was something special."

Solomon meowed in agreement. Becca placed the crystal ball between her and her cat and took out the book. The cover of the book had a symbol of some sort. Becca couldn't make heads or tails of it.

She slowly opened it to the first page. The inscription appeared to be written in blood. Becca immediately felt a sense of danger as she read what it said."Beware! The contents of this book is powerful. Evil lurks within its pages."

Becca dropped the book and shivered in fear. But she felt a sense of curiosity suddenly consume her. She carefully picked the book up, but it had flipped to another page. The page was filled with different sorts of love spells. The very thing she needed to make Lance fall in love with her. " But the inscription stated the book was evil. So the spells must be evil as well." She thought as she read the pages contents.

Suddenly a black crow lands on her arm. Becca jilted in fright. The crow was a bad sign. Becca knew when a black crow was near, something bad was going to happen.

So she shooed the crow away and continued to read the love spell. It was the perfect spell to cast on Lance. It was exactly what she had always wanted. To be loved by the man of her dreams, Lance Kilpatrick.

The forest became darker, as the sun began to set. Becca knew it was getting late and her parents would soon be worried about her being out after dark.

She had to hurry and cast the spell before they began to come searching for her. She reached and placed her hands over the crystal ball just as the spell stated. All of a sudden the ball began to glow. Becca's heart began to beat quickly and her cat Solomon gazed into it as if he was in some sort of trance. The crow lit on her arm again mesmerized by the glowing light. Becca ignored him and continued to recite the spell.

Inside the crystal ball lightening bolts hit the inner sides and reflected a rainbow of brightly colored rays. The forest was filled with multi- colored beams of glowing light. Becca was amazed by the beauty of it. " Nothing this lovely could be dangerous," she thought as her voice uncontrollably spoke in a different tone.

as she recited the love spell, the crystal ball revealed a vision to her. She could see herself in the arms of Lance. She could taste his lips upon hers, and it caused her to desire him even more. She was face to face with him. She loked deeply into his eyes." Is this real? " The words escaped her lips as she began to cast the spell.

"Oh crystal ball you know my heart, reveal to Lance the deepest part. Enchant his mind and make him see, that he's the only one for me."

At that, the book slammed shut. Becca tried to open it, but it was no use. She glanced back at the crystal ball, as it exploded in an array of brighter and blinding colors. Suddenly an unknow voice radiated from the electrical currents that had filled the inside of the ball, "You've released an evil thing, upon your city shall chaos ring."

A bolt of lightening jolted from it and raced through the forest toward Emerald city. Beyond the tree tops Becca could see the city aglow. She became frightened and raced toward home.

Meanwhile, Lance was asleep in his room. Suddenly a noise woke him. He looked around confused and bewildered. At the foot of his bed was a glowing light. It drew nearer to him and began to speak, "She summond love, so love she'll get. You'll follow her just like a pet. You'll fall asleep and when you wake, Becca will be yours to take."

Lance thought he was dreaming, so he closed his eyes and fell back to sleep.

Out of breath, Becca reached the limits of Emerald City. The city was quiet and the streets were empty. She hurried home, jumped into bed, and fell asleep quickly from exhaustion.

The next morning Becca got dressed quickly and went outside. Everything still appeared to be normal. She sat beneath a willow tree and waited for Lance to come and take her into his arms.

Meanwhile, Lance was waking up. He got dressed and joined his parents for breakfast. He sat down with them," I had the strangest dream last night," he told them feeling like he hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. " I dreamed I was kissing Becca Winters, and for some reason I fell in love with her. Imagine that." He laughed jokingly.

Lance couldn't eat his usual plate of breakfast. He was hungry for something else. He didn't know what, but he was sure fish was involved.

Lance left the table and was driven to find Becca. A sense of wanting to see her consumed him. When he walked out and into the sunlight, everything appeared to much taller. The city appeared to be bigger. Thinking nothing of it, he began to walk toward Becca's house.

Meanwhile, Becca was still there waiting for Lance. She had become frustrated that the spell hadn't work. " Stupid spell. It was all a fake. I should have known someone like Lance would never fall in love with a witch like me." She began to cry when Solomon strolled up next to her. " Where have you been, you silly cat. I've searched for you all morning," she wept.

Solomon had a sad look on his face. His emerald eyes had turned to a shade of blue. " What happened to you, Solomon? " Becca asked." Your eyes..." Suddenly Becca found herself staring into them." I swear. Your eyes remind me of Lance."

Solomon began to purr and rub himself all over Becca. He wanted her to pet him.

As Becca began to pet her cat, a sudden burst of light hovered over the city. Becca jumped up and watched it as it floated down and into the city. Suddenly there was chaos everywhere. People were chasing one another. Couples were kissing and making-out along the streets. It was total confusion all over. They were spell bound. Trapped in chaos of an evil love spell.

Becca was shocked at the devastation that befell her city. She sat down and picked up her cat. She held him up to her face and look deeply into his eyes.

" Lance? "
