The baby and the evil witch

Short Story By: boneman
Fantasy

A short story fairy tale about a baby and a evil cruel witch. (odd that given the title :) )

A bit of a departure for me to write a story....

Also could be seen as a metaphor for child abuse and the saving of a child from that situation. View table of contents...

The baby and the Evil Witch

Into the kingdom is born a child, a child of magic and delight. The birth is cause for celebration for everyone in that kingdom. There are days of feasting and festivals circus’s and clowns. The people are happy except for the evil witch who lives in the cold tower.

The evil witch is jealous of the child and mindful of her own misery
Alone and unloved in the tower she mixes her potions pricking each one with her long fingernails.
The evil witch has a knot inside of her and every time she thinks of the child the knot gets tighter and tighter hurting her more and more.
The evil witch is so very very unhappy because no one loves her and everyone loves the child

The child is beautiful, pink and happy just as babies should be, sometimes the child does cry but there are so many people who love the child that the crying soon is stopped and the tears washed all away
Then the child smiles again and everyone is happy and smiling as well as it should be with babies.

One day the evil witch could not stay in her tower anymore hearing the happy people below her as small as the smallest ants you have ever seen from that high tower.
She became so jealous of their happiness that she took her blackest potion down from the highest high shelf and muttering her darkest darkest curse she cast the potion out onto the 4 winds.

Quick as you like the sky turned from summers day blue to the darkest blackest night you have ever seen. The wind changed from a light breeze to a howling gale quicker than you can click your fingers. The rain came down in torrents soaking everyone in the kingdom. Above all the clamor and the howling gale the people heard the evil witches most evil evil cackling laugh. Then the people knew who was to blame for this.

Turning from the window the evil witch called up all her evil strength and pulled her door handle. Nothing happened ! She pulled again pressing her foot and the wall to help her pull still nothing ! The door was jammed and the witch was trapped !

The evil witch was now so angry she shouted her most evil evil words which I dare not repeat because the would turn you to stone in an instant ! But suffice it to say she was very very very angry now ! She cursed again and reaching out for another evil potion she threw it at the door.

BANG !!!!

The door exploded in a flash of light ! The witch was free and down the stairs she ran skipping with joy and planning her revenge on the wonderful child.

Long and hard she searched for the child until she came to the very last door in the castle. Pressing her ear against the door she could hear the child gurgling and laughing. This made the evil witch very angry and with a curse she blew the door in.

The baby’s nanny was turned to stone in an instant upon hearing the evil witches curses. The baby was too busy being happy and playing to pay the evil witch much attention . Until the witch grabbed the baby and quicker than you can click your fingers the happiness was all drained away. Baby did not smile laugh or even gurgle all the joy had gone from life.

This made the witch so very happy she almost danced with joy ! With a curse and a flash she zapped back to her high tower with the baby. She of course repaired the door with a magic spell (Ah bet you thought I’d forgot about the door didn’t you ?)

The evil witch, not having any children of her own did not have any baby things like a crib or nappies and so on. So she put the baby in a shoe box in the coldest darkest part of her tower. Every so often she would go over and wake the child and pricked it with her longest most dirty fingernail until the baby cried. Loud and long the baby cried.

This made the witch happy again and she sat back in her cold cold chair and dreamed her dreams of how to make the baby cry even more. Every so often the witch would laugh her evil laugh at the thoughts she was having.

Well what about the people who loved the baby ?

Well as soon as the baby was found missing a search was organized. Every room every nook every cranny. (That’s cranny not granny although I suppose they searched the grannies as well ) Every pot every pan every box every corner even under the cats blanket.

But still no baby to be found ! What would the people who loved baby do ? There was only one room left to search for the baby. Yes that’s right the witches high high tower ! The people were scared and cowered at the thought but they loved the baby and they knew they had to be brave.

The called upon the kingdoms kindest woman to climb the many many stairs up to the witches tower and rescue the baby.

Was she scared ? Well wouldn’t you be ?

The woman was not only kind and brave she was also the most beautiful woman in the kingdom with the most beautiful smile. She smiled her beautiful smile as she climbed the many many steps up to the top of the tower.

You know what ? Every time she passed a window she looked out and smiled and little by little she drove the storm away. Little by little the day grew brighter. Little by little the summer came back.

This made the evil witch very very cross ! In her anger she pricked and poked baby making it scream and cry louder than ever ! The kind woman heard this and it made her even braver to rescue the baby, She kept smiling and the sun got brighter and warmer and dried up all the rain.

The brave kind beautiful woman came to the witches locked door. She had no evil magic and so could not blow the door apart because it would hurt baby. All she did was lay her hands on the door and whisper one word just one.

You know what that word was ? Can you guess ?

The word was “Love” that’s all she said just the word “Love” The door slid open so softly barely making a sound and the brave woman walked in to confront the evil witch. The witch turned round from pricking baby and saw the kind beautiful woman and this made the witch crosser than ever.

The witch raised her hands and shouted her most terrible curses the most awful words and spells. She threw her nastiest potions at the kind beautiful woman all the time the witch cursed and cursed and cursed. Getting angrier and angrier and more and more evil and ugly. Until the kind beautiful woman smiled at the now hideous and very very angry witch. The beautiful woman again said just one word. Just one.

You know what that word is ? Can you guess ?

Yes that word was “love” She only said that one word but it was filled with such beauty and love for baby that the witch could not harm the beautiful woman no matter how she tried.

Eventually the witch started to spin around just like a top ! Quicker and quicker faster and faster all the time she was screaming the nastiest curses and awful words………

Until

BANG POP CRASH !!!!

The witch exploded into a million pieces and was gone ! Poof there she was gone !

The kind beautiful woman knelt down and picked up baby and all the kind woman did was hold baby safe and say that one word again “Love” Baby instantly began to smile laugh and gurgle as babies do.

The witch ? Ah yes. She vanished forever and ever. You see she had got herself so terribly ugly and angry and so full of curses that she could not contain it anymore. And you know its got to go somewhere…….. And when the beautiful woman said her magic word “Love” it sent all of the witch’s nastiness back at her. Until it was too much for her to take and BANG POP CRASH !!!!

The kind beautiful woman bundled baby safe and warm and came down from the tower. When she got outside the people saw the baby and were happy and smiling again on a nice warm summers day. As it should be with babies.

So the moral of the story ?

Yes, well its this…..

All it takes to defeat a monster because that’s what the witch was, is just one thing just one word and that word is “Love” That’s the magic word to protect you that’s all you need in life is “Love”

Just Love.

The end

Had the same effect on me when I wrote it.... Honestly I have no idea where this story came from. The other subject is covered elsewhere but Ive never written a fairy tale before.

I will write more in due course no doubt.

This would make a very cute and fun children's story to teach them about love. But the repeating words is not needed it sounds funny. And I don't know why, it's just my opinion, but instead of bang, pop, crash, I think you should flip crash and pop, it sounds better that way in my head, but that's just my opinion again.

You should attempt writing more fantasy stories I think you could be good at it even for little kids, they would love it.

oh.. the poor witch.. In the beginning you made her seem so pitiful and all, though later she turned cruel but I still sort of sympatize with her because nobody loves her. :(

Thank you for your kind and constructive comments. Isnt that the way of fairy tales ?
