The Falling Rocks

Page 1, Facing an apocalyptic nightmare, only one being could save me...

The air was thick with dust.  Lucky for us, we were inside the bus looking out.

There weren't many other people there but the ones that were were frozen with fear.

Some crouched down next to their seats; some in the aisles crying or screaming.

At that moment, we were immobile.

I stood close to the end of the bus at the window next to a man.  He stood right of me, his right hand touching the window as he looked out.

We were betwixt two large rocks and pieces of it started to crumble and fall to the bottom where we were.

The stranger and I stood looking out.  By now the entire atmosphere was covered in dust as the rocks started to fall.

"Any minute now, we're toast", I thought.

Though not as fearful as the screamers in the bus, a sort of nervousness had overtaken me.

The man next to me stood completely still as he watched the disaster; motionless with an expressionless stare in his eyes.  He did not seem afraid.

Hesitantly, I reached over with my shaky hand and took ahold of his, my fingers betwixt his and I closed my nervous grip.  He did the same.

His grip was comforting.  He wasn't afraid.

We looked out together now, hand in hand when the dog barked.

My eyes opened to the safety of my bedroom.  The fear from the dream still fogged my mind.

The whole dream like a curse had overwhelmed me, yet there was only one thing on my mind.

The man.

I awoke with a yearning to be held by him, because just as in the dream he held my hand, in reality he held my heart.
