Sky Vs Land

Ever since the opening of the Pegasus botanic garden, fairies had been living there, without fear, knowing that there would be plenty of flower gardens available to live in. Their only threat was the pixies. Ever since the pixies came, there had been an argument. The pixies believed that they should own the land and that the fairies should own the sky. However, the fairies wanted to own the land and the sky, because they believed that they arrived first at the Pegasus botanic garden.

Five years later, the argument was still going on. Frangipani was a peaceful fairy who hated the feud between the fairies and the pixies. Why couldn’t they get along? Frangipani was a little fairy, too small to be seen by humans. She had empathetic and soft blue eyes, light brown hair and wore a pink dress. At times, she could be very shy. “Why did the fairies have to be so bossy, and the pixies so quarrelsome?” wondered Frangipani. She had already tried many compromises, however, the quarrel was still going on. She had tried to get both sides to sign a peace treaty and had told them to talk about the issue, but the argument was still in place.

Frangipani hated to see people fighting, because it did them no good anyone. There was another reason though, to end the feud. There was a really handsome pixie called Gumleaf. He looked so kind and generous. His green eyes sparkled whenever he was excited. He had the softest light brown hair and the biggest smile. He was intelligent, brave and mischievous. Oh, she could spend days talking about her Gumleaf. Her unrequited love was the second reason to end the argument. Her Gumleaf, however, had a very strong point that unless the fairies moved, he would not talk to a single fairy.

Frangipani had to think of a strategy. She knew that the fairies wanted their houses to be on the ground, and that the pixies could only live on the ground. The fairies did not want live up in the clouds, and the pixies could not live in the clouds. Suddenly, she realised something. If the fairies did not want to live in the clouds, then why not live in the flowers. The flowers were close to the ground, higher up and would work as a perfect home for a fairy.

Firstly, Frangipani would have to try out the idea of living in a flower herself. She found a garden of tulips and camellias, and found one which was comfortable, to spend the night. She woke up at dawn, to find fresh dew on the garden. Fairies loved dew; it was their favourite drink because it was sweet and refreshing. Frangipani walked outside to drink some dew. She looked up to see the garden, shimmering in the sunlight. The garden was so beautiful, like a painting. The colours were so vivid, so vibrant. It was breathtaking.

Frangipani found some of her friends and told them of her unique idea. They thought it was very amusing and mocked her. Her friends all replied, “I doubt it’ll work. None of your plans have worked.” Frangipani knew that this was a good idea, no matter what her friends thought. “In fact”, she pondered, “when they try out my idea, they will understand that it is the perfect solution to our problem.” She believed that her solution would solve the issue, but the problem was that no one else did.

That night, all of her friends went to the tulip and camellia garden to sleep there. At dawn, Frangipani’s friends woke up to the breathtaking sight. They drank the dew to their hearts content before going back to spread the word. Again everyone mocked and jeered at them, but they were confident. They believed in themselves and Frangipani’s idea.

One by one, the fairies all started to move into the flower. Some were very keen to move, others were not so keen. However, gradually all the fairies moved from the ground into the flowers. Even Mrs Happy, which is ironic considering she was the grumpiest fairy that there was, eventually moved. The pixies were very happy that all the fairies had finally moved from the land and slightly higher up into the sky. After the fairies had settled in the flowers, the pixies realised that they were much lonelier. There were no more fairies to play with at night, to talk and to party with. They realised that although they had got what they wanted, there was still a negative effect from the cause.

Frangipani, however, had an even better life as she got to know Gumleaf. He was just as kind and generous as she thought. His personality lived up to his good looks. Her relationships with the fairies and pixies also improved dramatically, as she had been a bit shy before, but now she was much more bubbly and talkative. Frangipani’s relationship gradually improved, so that they were to be married soon. Everyone lived happily ever after, as one big happy family!
