John Titor is alive and well!

I was minding my own business, taking my daily evening stroll around the neighborhood, my thoughts pre-occupied by the day's earlier events, barely focused on where I was going. For the most part, taking long walks was very therapeutic for me; the fresh air and the tranquility was soothing and calming and on this particular evening, the weather was perfect, that I suppose a part of me was opting to continue on. I enjoy listening to music during these excursions and admittedly, the volume was a little too loud as I had this habit of manipulating the controls instead of paying attention to what's ahead of me. I also enjoy downloading my favorite songs on my iPod - the time always seems to swift by much quicker when you're immersed in song. While I was humming to "Summer of 69" by Brian Adams, I soon realized that I had gone much farther than I wanted to and I was approaching the local variety store. I suddenly remembered that I needed to pick up a few things: some milk, butter, cheese and some lunch meat. I took a quick glance at my watch. It was only 7 o'clock - plenty of time for me to pick up a few items ( and then some) and be home in time to watch my shows on TV. Even though I felt this need to rush, there was also a part of me that was compelled to take my time to ensure that I had picked up everything on my list so I would not have to make a return trip back to the store anytime soon. In short, I am not the most patient person and the mere thought of standing in line at the checkout counter, often times made me nuts! With my Ipod still cranked up to max, I soon found myself grabbing every item on my list including some bottled water, some shaving cream and some cotton swabs.

It had taken me more than ten minutes to find everything I needed and as I approached the checkout counter, it took only a matter of seconds and before I knew it, I was on my way home. Just as I was placing my headphones on, it had occurred to me that I had forgotten to buy milk. Shit! I was certain that I had thoroughly gone through my list, but I am very notorious for overlooking one item - always rushed, never stopping or paying attention at what is before me. I stood on the sidewalk, dumbfounded, bags in tow, contemplating as to whether I should go back and go through the seemingly agonizing task of going back for the milk! Instinct overtook me and before I knew it, I found myself back in the store searching for a litre of skim milk. Just as I was about to grab the freshest carton, a pair of hands were nestled on top of mine.

" So sorry, you take it", the man said.

He was about 40, with short cropped brown hair and brown eyes, very strong in appearance, and yet, he seemed gentle and warm.

I don't usually make a point of approaching strangers, but my curious nature got the better of me.

" You're not from around here are you?" I blurted out!

" You can say that", he replied.

" You're probably better off with organic", he continued,

"What?"

"That milk", he continued, " it's poison and you don't even know it!"

All I could muster up was a measly, "ok", but I honestly had no idea what this man was talking about!

The next thing I knew, he was telling me all kinds of things that were rather surreal, things that were very difficult to fathom and wrap my head around.

" The world is going through a transformation" he said, " It's only a matter of time before your generation soon realizes that you are already doomed - that you will not survive the coming years and unless you change your ways, the world you are a part of, will crumble right before your very eyes"

I stood there not able to say anything. It took every ounce of me to avoid any sort of confrontation with this man because right there and then, I knew I was being confronted with a complete nut case! Somehow as I looked into this man's eyes, I saw some sincerity: I heard it and I felt it!

Much of what he told me was rather confusing and yet, disturbing as well. I was no longer keeping track of time and the last time I looked at my watch, it was quarter past seven. While this man continued his babbling, all I could think of was wanting to be home in time for a light dinner and my show which started at eight.

" The world is in great turmoil! You don't understand the complexity of what your government is trying to pull over you! "

"And what does that mean for you?" I asked.

"It has nothing to do with me", he said, moving closer to me.

At this point, my attention suddenly reverted to the apparent scene in the store; there was nobody around, not even the clerk was anywhere in sight and my thoughts were now collectively focused on what this man was telling me.

"You have no clue, do you?" he continued as he looked in disgust at the store's surroundings. "Look around, friend. My people have no respect for this generation. This world is full of greed and intense hostility; you are all like a herd of sheep, no concern for others, or the environment. Let me fill you in on a little secret. Nobody likes you in the future. And when I refer to "you", I am referring to your people in this timeline! "

My jaw dropped. I was now convinced that I was conversing with a fanatic! Still, I was hooked and completely mesmerized by this man's insights!

" There are an infinite number of time lines. Your time line is very similar to my own", he continued, " always remember that what you do in this timelime, seemingly significant or insignificant otherwise, will have a much greater impact than you can possibly imagine."

" Don't you think your views are rather cynical?" I said.

"Perhaps", he replied, "but I think you'll soon see why."

I stared at him hard and for the first time during our conversation. He cracked a smile. That smile made him seem more friendlier, less uptight.

He then placed his hand on my shoulder and asked me what I did for living and then we engaged in some small talk. He then told me that he served in the U.S Military and that he was based near Tampa, Florida. Interestingly, he was visiting Canada for personal reasons although he never once ever mentioned having any family here. So, I asked him what he was doing here, and he mumbled something about a crises in Quebec.

"Your country, one day, is going to be a force to reckoned with. Canadians are going to be some of the most ruthless and efficient people in the world in the near future. God help Quebec!"

Naturally, I still hadn't a clue what he was talking about. He looked like a broken man, and for whatever reason, he was pissed off at the world, who was more or less using me as a punching bag to let out his frustrations and his apparent negative view of the world.

"Just remember", he said, " there is still hope. You can make a difference. It's only a matter of time before your people inflict self destruction upon yourselves. Be kind to one another. Hold hands - be there for one another and try not to be consumed with wealth and power. In the end, it will come crashing down on you harder than a ton of bricks"

You can imagine my confusion at this point, but I was also amazingly shocked at how much I understood what this man was saying and yet, I was also somewhat troubled by his cynicism and revelation about the world's apparent future. It not only interested me what this man was trying to say, but it was more along the lines of how he said it. He was passionate and yet, seemingly sincere as if he was trying to convey some message to me. I could see that he chose his words very carefully, trying not to intimidate or frighten me. It could not be farther from the truth! I was simply taken back byhisperspective. If anything,he was a mystical storyteller - a man who has much less taken his own experiences and has used them to heighten our self awareness. What also occurred to me was that this man also felt he had nothing to lose by saying all of this to a complete stranger. I can't begin to tell you what I was feeling inside - that I was inadvertently being told that the world I was living in had become a dangerous place and that our so called society, one day, is going to pay the ultimate price.

"Friend", he said, " The UFO's you see in the heavens are not aliens from outer space, but us from the distant future. Look closely at every and any world crisis and you will see a flying disc at every corner of the earth."

By this time, some teenagers had walked in the store but they didn't take notice of us.

" I suppose much of what you say is true, but I have to firmly disagree with your future outlook where the world is concerned"

The man's eyes widened and he said with absolute assurance, "It is not only probable, but it is inevitable. You cannot escape this unless you all band together and create a change that will save more than half of the world's population"

With the litre of milk in one hand and my wallet in the other, I was at a sudden loss for words.

" The Y2K threat was a bigger crisis than you could ever possibly imagine ", he said," do you know why it came and went without incident?"

I was completely thrown off by his question. How could I possibly dignify that with an answer? I didn't have to answer. He had let me off the hook.

"I'll let you figure that one on your own - I am certain you will draw your own conclusion. Enjoy your life and say hello to Jake for me! Oh and don't worry, you'll be home in plenty of time to catch your shows on TV. "

I then proceeded to the checkout counter with my litre if milk, when all of a sudden, I stopped dead in my tracks. Jake was my fourteen year old nephew, and I never once mentioned him to this man. My palms began to sweat, my pulse quickening. I then turned around where I had engaged in conversation with this man only moments ago, and he was nowhere in sight. Impossible! I was at the front of the store and I surely would have seen him exit!

But most disturbing of all is that my nephew, Jake, was born in 1998, who has spent a great deal of his time in Florida. An alleged time traveler from the year 2036, named "John Titor", a soldier based in Hillsborough County in Florida, was also born in 1998.

I guess John Titor is alive and well....

***********THE END************

Author's note: "John Titor" is indeed an alleged time traveler from the year 2036. Speculation and investigation about who "John Titor" was and why he was here ( between Nov 2000-March 2001) on various online chat rooms, continues to this day.
