Every night it was the same. He walked along the dark path, unsure of what was ahead of him. Shadows bounced along the walls, created by the streetlamp above him. He walked further into the alleyway, his heart and mind racing with fear. He tried to will his body to turn and run but it was no good, his legs kept moving deeper and deeper into the alley and the darkness.
Once engulfed by the darkness of the alley he finally turned around. Squinting against the darkness he saw them as he always saw them. Two gargoyle like creatures crawling toward him like deformed zombies. His blood turned to ice. What if tonight was different? What if this time no one came to save him? He moved back until he was pinned against the alley wall. The creatures kept moving closer, their yellow eyes almost glowing in the dark. Logan drew a breath and tried to run in between them but it was no good. He was paralysed with terror.
Just as the creatures were mere yards away, Logan closed his eyes and prepared for their attack. When none came, he opened them again and saw that tonight was the same as all nights. At the last moment he had been rescued by the man in the black cloak. The creatures lay dead at his feet and the man stood with his pistol still smoking, staring at Logan. The man then turned and walked back down the alley onto the street and into the light. Logan shouted out and tried to follow but he was still rooted to the spot. Suddenly there was a crash and a blinding light ahead of him and-
Logan's alarm rang out and he awoke in his bed with a start. Shaking clear the cobwebs, he looked at his bedside clock. 7AM. He stopped his alarm and sat up. He had the same dream again. This made four consecutive nights. Always the same. These dreams were weird though, it was like he knew he was dreaming. It had seemed so real though. He had felt the hot breath of the gargoyles, had felt the terror as they crawled closer to him for four nights now. He had been awake inside his dream. Or something like that. He was only a 17 year old High School student and 7AM was not the time to ponder philosophy of dreams.
He got up and started getting dressed, thoughts of his dream slowly fading but not quite disappearing. Before this the only recurring dreams he had had were those of Julie, and it didn't take a philosopher to figure out why he was dreaming of her. The ironic thing was, even through the terror of nearly dying in his recent dreams, he still preferred them to the romantic dreams of kissing Julie because when he woke up he realised neither were true and both were just figments of his imagination. One gave him relief and the other left him incredibly depressed. He could dream all he liked about kissing Julie, the sad truth is in the waking world she belonged to another, and was way out of his league.
With thoughts of his nightmare being replaced with thoughts of Julie, the girl he could never have, he made his way downstairs to breakfast, which he ate quickly before leaving for school.
As always his best friends Lucy and Aaron were waiting for him at the end of the street. And as always they were arguing about something. Forcing thoughts of Julie out his head, Logan walked up to his friends and forcing a smile, listened to them bicker without really listening, caught in a world of his own until Lucy brought him back to reality with a bang.
"I hear Julie and Chris are running for "Cupid's Couple" at the dance next week" she said. "I take it you won't be voting for them?"
Aaron grinned and looked slyly at Lucy "Of course not. Look at how green he's getting. He wishes he was Chris."
Lucy raised her eyebrows and looked at both Logan and Aaron. "I think you're both pathetic." she laughed "Yes, even you Aaron. Don't deny it. At least Logan can admit he's jealous of Chris. He has the one thing Logan wants. But you Aaron, let's be honest. Chris has everything you want. The popularity, the fancy car, the girls. Invites to the latest parties. He's a high school stereotype and so are you, you just don't want to deal with it. I'm quite happy in my role, I have no desire to be Prom Queen or Cupid's Couple or anything silly like that. These silly popularity contests are pointless."
And off they were bickering again, Aaron denying Chris had anything he wanted and Lucy insisting otherwise. Logan drowned them out again and began brooding over Lucy's latest piece of news. It came of no surprise, yet it stung him all the same.
Of course they were going to run for Cupid's Couple. They were the most popular couple in school. The cheerleader and the quarterback. It was a high school fairytale.
As the three of them reached the school gates, they spotted Julie and Chris talking amongst each other and laughing while their friends tagged along behind.
"Why don't you go say hi?" Lucy asked
Logan rolled his eyes "Yeah right, what would I say? We haven't talked to each other since we were twelve"
"Dosen't mean you can't be friends again."
Logan shook his head. It wasn't happening. He'd probably say something stupid anyway, make a fool of himself. Besides what was the point? He didn't want to be friends with Julie. He wanted more and she was already with Chris. Just being friends would be more painful than this...if that was possible.
Thankfully Lucy let the subject drop, and began complaining about her recent pile up of homework, letting Logan zone out again. He only came back to reality when he heard the bell ring for first period. After making plans to meet his friends at lunch he headed off to his first class of the day.
He was on his own for most of the day, only sharing Biology with Lucy after lunch. But his first class of the day was his favourite. Drama. Not only did he love the subject, and the teacher but it had the added bonus of being the only class he shared with Julie.
As he entered the classroom he saw Julie sitting in the corner with her friends Chloe and Miranda. Where she was sitting, the sunlight caught her blonde hair perfectly, making it shine. It took a huge effort for Logan to pry his eyes away from her. Before he did however he noticed something that disturbed him slightly. She had large bags under her eyes as though she hadn't slept. The worst of them had been covered up with make up but Logan could still see them pretty clearly. And every so often Logan was sure he caught her yawning. He shrugged, it was nothing. So she never got much sleep last night. She was probably up late studying, or watching T.V. Or maybe she had Chris over and-
It was best not to think about that. Just depress him even more. Before she could catch him watching her he took a seat and waited for the lesson to begin.
The lesson started with warm up excercises, then people were paired up and told to re-enact a classic scene from a movie of their choice. As his teacher paired up students, Logan kept hoping he would have Julie as his partner, and today seemed to be his lucky today. Or perhaps his teacher read his mind. Either way, Julie and he were paired together and sitting across from each other in the classroom Julie started the conversation.
"So what's your favourite movie?" she asked
For a few seconds Logan wasn't sure how to answer. He tried to keep his eyes on hers, but it was difficult with her wearing such a low cut top. His mind froze. He couldn't think of any movies. What movies did she like? Maybe if he could find one in common with her...
"Erm...Heathers is a pretty cool film."
"Oh. I don't think I've seen that."
Damn. Still there was always plan B. "So what's your favourite film?" he asked her
Julie smiled. "It's still Almost Famous".
Of course! Even back when she was twelve and they were best friends, Almost Famous was her favourite film. But Logan couldn't help smiling. She had used the word "still". She remembered when they were friends. He was touched by that.
"You haven't changed have you?" he said.
Julie's smile faltered a little, and her eyes clouded over. "I dunno about that. It's not like we talk much anymore. We used to be best friends but since me and Chris...well, things haven't been the same. It sounds crazy but...I miss you a little."
Logan's smile disappeared completely. "It dosen't sound crazy. I miss you too. But people always drift away. It's the curse of High School."
"It shouldn't be that way" Julie said, frowning and trying to stifle a yawn.
"Ever seen Stand By Me?" Logan asked her.
She shook her head to say she hadn't seen it, a little put off by the apparent change of subject.
"There's a good quote from it: I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"
Julie leaned forward and looked into Logan's eyes smiling. "I like that. It's nice."
They sat there for a few seconds in silence, just sharing a moment, one Logan would look back on and savour. It was broken by Julie. "We should really start getting to work. So what film do you think we should act out...?"
Later, at lunch, Logan, extremely tired but not quite down of his high after his moment with Julie, met up with Lucy and Aaron on one of the lunch benches. Logan lay down on the bench and instantly felt an extreme wave of tiredness come over him. Fighting the urge to fall asleep on the bench, he opened his eyes with an effort and looked around him. Lucy was laying on the grass next to the bench reading something and Aaron was watching the cheerleaders practice their routine. Logan noticed Julie wasn't practicing with the cheerleaders and was suddenly concerned. Looking around a little more, he saw her lying in Chris's lap and his concern suddenly transformed to jealousy. Looking a little closer, he noticed she was asleep. She really must have been tired.
He too was finding it difficult to stay awake and was struggling to keep his eyes open. He closed his eyes and lay back on the bench, his exhaustion overwhelming him. Suddenly he found himself fast asleep, and falling through the air. All around him was blackness, until he landed. Standing up, he realised he was dreaming. But this felt different. It certainly wasn't his usual dream in the alley. He looked around. The black was slowly giving way and he saw he was in a forest, surrounded by deep wilderness. He walked forward, deeper into the forest, looking around warily, half expecting to be ambushed by the gargoyle like creatures from his previous dreams.
After walking for a short while, he came to a clearing in the woods which led on to a path. Beyond the path was a beautiful field of roses, bathed in sunlight. It was like something out a romance novel. In the middle of the field was a patch of grass. From the path, Logan could make out a figure laying on the patch of grass sunbathing. As he got closer, the figure took shape and he saw that it was Julie. Now he knew for sure it was a dream. But this didn't feel like any normal dream. He didn't feel like he belonged here. That was when it dawned on him. This wasn't his dream. He was in Julie's dream.
She was wearing a pink summer dress and had a red ribbon in her hair. She looked more beautiful than anything Logan had ever seen. The wind was knocked out of him, he could barely breathe looking at her. From deep within the roses, he would have given anything to just stay there and watch her lay in the sun forever. He didn't want anything to interrupt this moment.
Out of the corner of his eye something moved. Tearing his gaze away from Julie, he looked in the direction of the movement and spotted one of the gargoyle creatures crawling like a hunter stalking it's prey toward her. Frantically he started to run towards her. He expected to be rooted to the spot and was so surprised when he found himself able to move freely that he fell flat on his face. Scrambling to his feet he resumed his chase of the creature, shouting in warning to Julie but she was too far away to hear him.
As he ran in pursuit of the gargoyle, he noticed he was gaining ground and felt a glimmer of hope. When he was only a few yards from it, he shouted out to Julie again but she did not reply. She seemed to have fallen asleep in her dream.
Just as the gargoyle readied itself to pounce on Julie, Logan lunged at it and caught it with a flying tackle. The creature thrashed but was caught tight in Logan's grip. Eventually it managed to free itself by slashing Logan's arm with it's claw. Screaming in pain Logan released the gargoyle which whipped round to face Logan, hatred in it's red eyes.
Logan, expecting it to attack, readied himself and was shocked when the creature's expression changed to one of fear and it ran in the opposite direction. Without hesitating Logan ran to Julie's side to check on her. She was still sound asleep oblivious to the fact Logan had just saved her life.
Logan was so focused on Julie that he didn't hear the man appear behind him.
"It sensed your strength. That's why it was frightened. But it'll be back. These demons always return to their prey"
Logan whired round to face the mysterious man. He was dressed in a long black coat, open to show a dark shirt underneath with a strange logo on the middle.
"Who the hell are you?" Logan asked "And why do I keep having these weird dreams?"
The man simply stared at Logan for a few seconds, and Logan opened his mouth to repeat himself when the man raised a hand to stop him.
"I'm a Seeker. I look for people like you. Those born with the gift of entering others dreams."
"What? I can't enter other people's dreams. That's crazy"
"Where do you think we are now? We are in your friend Julie's dream. I did not bring you here. Something inside you sensed she was in danger and you brought yourself here."
Logan looked at the stranger, not quite disbelieving but not quite comprehending what he was hearing. "What are those creatures? What do they want? Why did they attack Julie?"
"Dreams are powerful. They are a way of processing all our wants, fears and desires. They give off a unique aura these demons and others like them crave. They access our dreamspace and absorb energy, killing us in our sleep. We call them nightmares for obvious reasons."
"Like Freddy Krueger?"
The man sighed and rolled his eyes. "Why do they always make that comparison?" he said "Yes...like Freddy Krueger. Your friend Julie is no different from anyone else. She was not attacked because she was special. The nightmare simply wanted to absorb her dreamspace. He would have suceeded too if you hadn't chased him away. But it will return. And when it does, you'll be ready".
Logan's eyes widened. "No. I can't do anything against them. They're too strong. What good will I be?"
"When the time comes, you will find the strength as you did today. You have a unique power. Not only can you access dreams but you integrate with the dreamspace around you. You take strength from someone's dream. I've only seen one other who can do this and he-"
The man broke off, unwilling to divulge any more about the other person who had this talent. Turning to leave, the man looked back at Logan. "If you are unwilling to fight, I cannot force you. But remember, you have a gift. With it, you have the opportunity to make a difference. When you next fall asleep, you will appear here, no doubt with the nightmare waiting to finish what it started. How you deal with it is up to you."
With that he walked into the field of roses, away from Logan and the sleeping Julie.
"Wait!" Logan shouted "You didn't tell me your name"
But he was gone, having disappeared in the roses. Logan turned again to face Julie, and knelt down beside her. She looked so beautiful asleep in the sun. So innocent. The urge to lean over and kiss her was almost unbearable.
Suddenly he felt weird inside. Like his guts were on a rollercoaster, he thought he was going to vomit. He clenched his eyes shut and just when he thought he could take it no more he opened his eyes and-
The first thing he saw as he opened his eyes was Lucy leaning over him. He was back in the schoolyard. As he opened his eyes Lucy moved back, and Logan sat up on the bench he had been laying on. The first thing he did was look at where Julie had been sleeping and sure enough, there she was, being roused by Chris.
"The bell went nearly two minutes ago!" She said "We're late for Biology. Come on!"
Groggily Logan stood up and nearly lost his balance, tripping over himself. Finding his feet before he went sprawling to the ground he faced Lucy.
"What happened?" he asked "How long was I out?"
"About an hour. Nearly the whole of lunch" She replied "Now come on"
As they started to walk towards Biology, Logan's head cleared a little and he felt a little more like himself. He noticed Lucy smiling to herself.
"What's so funny?"
Lucy's smile grew wider "Nothing. You just looked so cute sleeping. You kept tossing and turning. I thought you were going to fall off the bench."
Logan was fully awake now and that was when he noticed his arm hurt. Pulling up his sleeve he took a look and saw he had a deep gash halfway up his arm. Lucy looked at it and her eyes widened.
"That looks really bad" she said "You should get it checked out. I can tell Mrs. Quiver why you're late if you wanna go to the infirmary now."
Logan shook his head. "I'll be fine. It's just a graze. I've had worse."
"If you're sure. I still think that ought to be checked out. It looks really painful. It might get infected."
Logan frowned. "I see Julie fell asleep the same time I did. She wake up at the same time too?"
"Yeah. When the bell went Chris woke her up. Kinda funny really..." Lucy grinned.
"What is?"
"Well that's the closest to sleeping with Julie you're gonna get." Lucy laughed.
Logan's cheeks reddened. "That's not funny" he snapped
Lucy just laughed even harder "What's wrong? Get up on the wrong side of the bed?" she teased "So tell me...what did you dream about?"
That evening, Logan sat in his bedroom reading a book but not absorbing what was on the page. Every so often he kept looking at the clock. Was Julie asleep now? What if she was being attacked as he lay there reading? He glanced at the clock again. It wasn't even 9 yet. Chances are she wasn't even home. No point falling asleep until he knew she was too. Who knows where he would end up? The thought terrified him. Even if he was to land in Julie's dream what would he do?
Except he already knew the answer to that. He'd do everything he could and if that meant dying, well so be it.
"Dying in your sleeps meant to be peaceful right?" he murmured "So why do I get the feeling I'm in for one hell of a night?"
Julie sat on her bed with the phone in her hand, willing herself to call him. But what would she say? Before today they had barely spoken in almost five years. And why did she care so much? She had never bothered to contact him before now, and he hadn't tried to contact her. So why couldn't she shake him from her head?
She was too tired to think about it, and she wasn't in a talkative mood anyway. Sighing she began to replace the phone back on the cradle, and that's when it rang. Jumping out of fright, she didn't answer it at first, just looked at it like it was an alien object. She remembered hearing about people who thought about calling someone for so long that eventually the person they were thinking about called them as though there had been a telepathic sign given. She had laughed it off, always asking why anyone would need to use a phone if they could send messages with their mind but now...
Before the phone rang off she answered it, and when she heard the voice on the other end she sighed a little in relief, and a little in disappointment.
"Hey there beautiful" said Chris from the other end. Julie smiled a little and forgot all about Logan for the moment.
"Hey. How was practice?" she asked.
"It was alright. Couldn't really concentrate. I kept thinking about you"
"Awww, that's sweet." Julie smiled
"I'm a little worried about you. Falling asleep at lunch today, have you been getting enough sleep?"
Julie, touched by his concern, smiled even more. "I'm fine Chris. Really, I was just up late studying is all. I was actually about to go to sleep before you phoned".
"Alright. I'll let you get off then. One more thing though." Chris said "I noticed that geek Logan was asleep at lunch too. You talking to him again? I mean it's pretty funny-"
Suddenly Julie was furious, and she couldn't control her anger. She began to shout down the phone at Chris "What the hell are you trying to imply? I haven't spoken to Logan in years, and if I did it's got nothing to do with you. I was up late studying last night and that's the truth. If Logan fell asleep at lunch today as well, well I guess that's pretty strange but I assure you-"
"Wow ok, calm down. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to piss you off. You know I trust you. I just wanna know you're only hanging with the right people. Logan's a bit of a dweeb you know? You got a better class of friends in the cheerleading squad and with the footballers."
"Logan's a sweet guy and if I decide to talk to him then there's nothing you can do about it. Now I really gotta go, I'm tired. Sweet dreams Chris."
"Yeah, you too. I love you Julie."
She hung up without replying. After replacing the phone on the cradle she lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She was really tired and knew she should sleep but a part of her really didn't want to and she didn't know why. So Logan fell asleep at lunch as well? That was pretty strange. She didn't know why, but Logan was constantly appearing in her thoughts since she had talked to him in their Drama class. But surely she wasn't thinking about him purely out of nostalgia and a sense of wanting to be friends like they were before? Nah, as bad as she felt about it she had rarely thought of him since they drifted apart. So what then? She looked at the clock. Nearly 10. Yawning, she began to go under the duvet, already half asleep. Forget about Logan, Chris and everything else, she thought, I'll get some sleep. Things always look different in the morning.
Logan timed it perfectly. He entered Julie's dream just a few moments after she fell asleep. Looking around he saw she was dreaming the same dream as she had been at lunch. Walking through the woods as he had done before, he also noticed one more thing. Craven was right, he felt a lot stronger inside Julie's dream, as though a powerful energy was flowing through him. He began to run through the forest, intent on reaching the field of roses where Julie lay.
As he reached the clearing, he saw the demon. Focusing all his energy on Julie, Logan ran forward, feeling faster and stronger than he had ever done before. The demon charged forward towards the field of roses and disappeared among them. Logan followed, desperately trying to catch the creature before it attacked Julie. Logan poured on the speed and managed to reach Julie just as the creature emerged from the roses. Logan kicked out at the creature and it recoiled with a mixture of anger and fear. It recovered quickly, however and lunged at Logan, knocking him off balance.
Logan fell to the ground and the creature took the opportunity to attack Logan. It jumped on his chest and began to frantically scratch at his face, it's red eyes full of hatred and venom. Logan raised his arms to shield his face and lashed out instinctively at the demon, sending it flying.
Logan stood back up, blood trickling from his cheek. The gargoyle creature growled and charged at him but Logan was too quick. He jumped to the side and the creature ran right past. It was only after the creature ran past Logan realised he had not been it's target. The gargoyle kept charging ahead, straight toward Julie. It reached Julie and raised it's left claw, preparing a killing blow. A red glow appeared as it began to suck the energy from Julie. Logan could feel everything around him begin to fade and knew he had to act fast. He jump kicked the creature, knocking it away from Julie. Now that the nightmare had absorbed some of Julie's dream it seemed to pulsate with energy and Logan knew it would be stronger and faster. It jumped at him, trying to claw his face and Logan dove out of the way. He quickly regained his feet and turned in time to avoid the creatures swipes at him. Logan caught the nightmare with a lucky punch, sending it reeling towards Julie. Before it could recover and absorb more of Julie's dream, Logan rushed at it and kicked it away from her sleeping body. The nightmare went sprawling to the ground and Logan kicked it one more time, hard in the face. Screaming in agony, the nightmare slashed violently, gushing blood and a pink energy which seemed to seep back in to Julie's body. Logan, realising the creature was dying and relinquishing the energy it had stolen from Julie gave it one more vicious kick. The nightmare flew back and tried to get up, but it was too weak. Instead of standing, it tried to scuttle away from the oncoming Logan, but Logan was far too fast. He stood on the nightmare, making it yell in pain once more, and broke it's back, killing it instantly. Suddenly, from the dead nightmare's body came a burst of pink light which Logan had to shield his eyes against. The pink light flowed from the demon and into Julie, as the energy from her dream was returned to her body.
After Logan had caught his breath, he looked from the grotesque nightmare to the beautiful sleeping figure of Julie. He knelt down beside her and whispered in her ear. She looked so radiant with the pink glow still swirling around her, so peaceful in her slumber. The temptation to kiss her was almost too strong.
Suddenly the world around started to spin and he realised it was time to go. As the field of roses danced around him and Julie became a pink and blue haze, he closed his eyes and once again resisted the urge to vomit. Was this something he was going to have to get used to?
Before he closed his eyes however, he could swear he saw Julie awaken and look straight at him.
When he next opened his eyes, he was in space. At least that's what it seems like. All around him was darkness, and squinting through the darkness he saw nothing but more darkness. Wondering where he was or why he was here, he began to move around. The surge of energy he had felt in Julie's dream had now intensified and the injuries he had sustained in the battle with Julie's attacker had healed. He felt strong, fast, invincible.
Suddenly from behind him came the sound of applause, and almost instantly the lights came on but it made no difference. Where before Logan could only see darkness, now all around him was an intense light. From the light came a figure, still applauding and Logan saw it was the mysterious man who had appeared in his dreams before.
"Well played, young warrior. You handle that nightmare like a pro. You can feel the strength of the dreams inside you can't you? All that pure energy flowing through you, making you quicker, more agile, stronger than you ever were in the waking world. Do you believe now you have a gift?"
Logan ignored his question and asked one of his own. "Where are we?"
"In my dreamspace. I don't want to bore you with physics and metaphysics you couldn't comprehend. Quite simply, we are in my dream. That is all you need to know. Dreams are strong. And when one can control their own dreams, they become even stronger. I have spent many years channeling all my thoughts into controlling dreams so I may defeat the nightmares. I have learned how to control and shape my own dreams. Suppressing all my fears, wants, hopes and desires. Keeping them in the waking world so that the nightmares may not feed off them. That is why you feel so much stronger in my dream than you did in hers. Mines is much purer. This is where you will come to recharge after every battle and we will talk."
"How am I meant to find my way here?"
"For now, I will keep bringing you here. But soon, you will learn to navigate between dreams and you will find your own way into my dream. Assuming I allow you access of course." he said, grinning.
Logan sighed. All this was confusing him. "I really don't understand any of this. You want me to keep fighting these monsters?"
"Yes. Every time you fall asleep your ability will transport you in to the nearest dream which is in danger. It is your destiny to protect that's dream and it's dreamer."
"Right. Well if I'm going to keep fighting these nightmare things I want a lot more answers. About where I come from? What I can do? How I can do it? But most of all I want to know your name."
"It's Craven. My name is Craven. And all shall be answered in good time, I promise. But for now I think it is time for you to return to your own slumber, and sleep the rest of the night without dreams. We shall speak again, and soon."
Before Logan could answer, the world began to spin again and he found himself floating through the air, the dazzling brightness replaced with black, red and finally nothing. He opened his eyes and saw Julie looking at him, smiling radiantly. Everything around him was so familiar, so beautiful, so....dreamlike.
And when Julie kissed him he saw that's what it was. His dream. The recurring dream he had had before the creatures and Craven had entered his mind. Smiling, Logan felt himself being kissed again by Julie and wished he could live in this dream forever...
Logan's alarm rang out and he awoke in his bed with a start. Shaking clear the cobwebs, he looked at his bedside clock. 7AM. He stopped his alarm and sat up. He had saved Julie's life last night. And then dreamt about kissing her. But this time the dream was different. It had been so vivid, so real, so...
It didn't matter. It was still only a dream. He was in the waking world, and in this world she was still with Chris. Pushing thoughts of Julie out of his mind, he got out of bed and began to get dressed and made his way downstairs for breakfast. As he passed the front door on the way to the kitchen, he heard a knocking. Answering the door, he was met by the heavenly sight of the girl of his dreams.
At first he was certain this was just another dream, a cruel twist on reality, and he was about to force himself awake when she spoke."May I come in?" she asked.
And all at once Logan knew it wasn't a dream. Her voice, however pure it had been in his dream could not measure up to reality. "Of course." he answered. "I was just about to eat breakfast. Is everything ok, I mean I didn't expect to see you. Not that I'm not happy to see you of course, I just meant..." Logan began to ramble before finally shutting himself up
Julie smiled faintly and Logan's stomach did a backflip, forward flip and somersault all at once.
"I've been meaning to call you. I was going to last night but...I don't know why I never. It's crazy but ever since we spoke in Drama, I've felt an urge to speak to you. Like you're in the back of my mind somewhere. And I swear you were in my dream last night..."
Logan felt his cheeks redden. "I was?" he enquired.
Julie laughed. "Oh, nothing to get Chris jealous. I just have this strange feeling you saved my life. Like I was in danger, and there was fear and then there you were. Pretty strange huh? Maybe I'm going crazy"
"No. You're not. It's just a dream, it means nothing. I mean I dream of yo-" Logan broke off. "yo- yo- youghurt! I dream of youghurt all the time. It's just dreams."
"I think this dream meant something." Julie said. "I think it means I should have spoke to you before now. You were a good friend to me when we were kids. Think we can be that close again?"
Logan nodded. "We can try."
Julie smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "I'm glad. Now I really gotta go get ready for school. Enjoy your breakfast." she began to walk to the front door and as she opened it, she turned round to face Logan once more. "Youghurt huh?" she smiled.
Before Logan could reply she was gone, leaving Logan with nothing but a tingling sensation on his cheek and in his heart.
