A Vampire Attack
A loud thump and the sound of nails on a chalkboard pulled me from my sleep. I sat up slowly, flicked on a lamp, and gasped. Just as a second thump occurred I was able to see a bat flapping and screeching madly against the outside of my window. It disappeared for a second and when it returned it threw itself, wings outstretched, at the glass again. Its claws were bared and its mouth was open, as if to silently snarl at me. It glared at me as it collided with the window once more. This time, a long, spidery crack appeared. I screamed and ran out.
My parents met me in the hall, both looking alert and rumpled in their PJ's.
"Sweetheart, what is it?" My mom asked, rubbing my shoulders. The sound of glass shattering from my bedroom answered for me.
My dad burst through the door with mom and me close behind. My eyes widened at what I saw.
A man was standing in a puddle of broken glass, staring down at the floor. He was wearing brown boots under dark jeans and a black leather jacket. His ebony hair was a shabby mess over his eyes. He was tall, taller than my dad even when hunching over, and his figure was lean, muscled, like he'd spent some quality time at the gym. His arms were trembling.
"What the hell are you doing in my house?" Dad asked. He received no response from the stranger, who seemed to not have heard. "What are you doing in my house?" he repeated. Still no reply. My dad turned to my mom and me. "Get out of here. Go call the police."
Although my joints had iced over, paralyzing me, mom flittered to the door. But the man finally looked up. I gasped. His eyes were crimson red, surrounded by pale, clammy skin, and he was exceptionally handsome. With a blurringly fast speed, he jumped in mom's path. She yelped and stumbled back. My dad lunged for the intruder. He caught my father around the neck and briskly twisted dad's head to the side. There was an echoing crack, and my dad crumbled to the floor. I stopped breathing; my mother let out a teeth-jarring scream.
He reached for her and repeated the motion he'd preformed on my dad. Mom fell to dad's side, her eyes wide and blank.
Finally, he shifted to glare at me. Panic caused my legs to quiver, but I still couldn't move. He took a step closer to me and grabbed my neck as he'd done with my parents. I closed my eyes, unwillingly waiting for the end. But it didn't come. Instead, I felt hair brush my chin and a hot breath on my throat. My eyes flashed open. He was leaning intimately close, and I felt cool lips on my skin. I had a few seconds to contemplate this. Then, he bit down.
