Anton and Katty sit atop their mansion looking down on the town below. Anton wraps his cape around Katty's shoulders and snuggles closer to her. Coyly she wraps her long black hair around Anton's neck and draws him even closer. Together for almost two hundred years it seems as only one. Less even.
Even Tee Tee Katty's favorite bat respects the privacy of the two when they go to the roof to cuddle. After a time the moon shines a light down that casts eerie shadows along the slate roof.
" Look Anton. The shadows escaping the chimney appear as a hanging man."
" Beautifull. Only you can spot the loveliness of of the art shadows bring."
" Do you say that to all the girls?"
" Only those willing to take a night flight with me."
The couple stand and leap from the highest part of the roof and fall toward the ground waiting until only inches from the high grasses before taking flight. Circling the house they find bats hunting mosquitoes and fly with them for awhile until Katty wants to see the lights of the town.
In moments they are over Briarton. Late night shoppers walk from one small store to the next collecting unneeded things. Couples hold hands and kiss not knowing they are being watched.
" Does it ever bother you Anton?"
" What is that my dear Katty?"
Hunting these people. They seem so unaware."
" And they are. Right up to the moment. I used to feel a twinge of pain for them, years ago. Now I see them as they are. Silly, self indulgent creatures."
" Yes", Katty said as she soared just a bit higher. " I see what you mean. Are you up for a bite?"
" I thought you would never ask."
The man laden with bags from the shops walked slowly to the darkened area of the parking lot. He almost made it to his car.
