It was my 11th birthday and I was really excited. I couldn’t wait to receive my present from my auntie. She said it would be a mysterious gift.
I sighed. “Of course I’ll get a mysterious gift. That family of mine is definitely weird. They even bring along a stuffed doll and pass it off as their child.”
That night it was time for me to open my presents. First I opened my mother’s gift. It was a nice top with flares. I received many wonderful presents, from all of my friends. There was a special parcel from my aunt. I was very curious.
“What could she be sending me?” I wondered.
The parcel was small and thick and I tried to guess what it was. After less than a minute I gave up and tore at the rapping paper furiously.
“Wow!” I exclaimed. “This is unbelievable”
It was a silver necklace, with beautiful crystals on it. So I slowly placed it around my neck and BOOM! I was gone.
I found myself at a beach. I wasn’t really scared, just alone. I loved the beach. Just as I was heading for the water a mysterious lady appeared out of nowhere.
“Wear the necklace and choose the right door when you’re ready to go home. You only have one hour here, then you must return to where you cam from. Good luck!”
Then she disappeared into think air.
I found myself alone once again. I walked along the smooth, wet sand.
“It’s liked being shipwrecked!” I said.
I started out into the ocean and was amazed by what I saw. There swimming in the ocean was the cutesiest dolphin. It was swimming alongside its parents; it reminded me of my parents. What would they be thinking? Me not being home at all! I wondered would they be worried, upset or angry when they discovered I wasn’t there.
It started to get dark and I wanted to go home, but then I remembered what the lady had said. I needed to choose the right door. I started to panic, my heart was pumping. I went to the first door and inside was a museum. A boring museum. So I jumped out of that door and had to make a quick choice. I quickly jumped into the third door and found myself in a jungle. I was surrounded by animals. Suddenly
I realised the necklace wasn’t around my neck. I started to panic. I only had ten minutes left.
Then I saw it, a cheeky little monkey had it. I tried to get it from him but he wouldn’t give it back. He climbed higher into the trees. I had no choice – what could I do? I needed it to get back home.
Suddenly coconuts started hitting my head. I looked up and saw it was that naughty monkey throwing them at me. I turned around and saw a banana drop down. I quickly picked it up. I could tell by the expression on the money’s face, that he wanted it.
“If you give me my necklace back, I’ll give you this banana” I said. “Do you agree with me?”
The monkey nodded, it meant yes. He slowly came down from the tree and handed me back the necklace. I held the banana up to him. He quickly snatched it from my hand and disappeared into the tree tops.
I realised that I only had two minutes left. So I quickly jumped out of the third door and hoped the second door would be the right one, so I jumped in.
I was back at home, just in time for my birthday cake. I guess they didn’t even realise I was gone. It was as if nothing had happened. They might have paused or freezed, until I came back. I guess I’ll never know. I took off the necklace and placed it in a special box and put it under my bed. Who knows I may use it again someday.
