I was tempted to let go of the rope. So very tempted, but I resisted the urge long enough to pull my grimacing companion over the edge of the boat. The tiny row boat rocked and swayed as he made himself comfortable, folding his long, gangly body.
"That was not an experience I want to repeat." he said, glaring at me from under arched red brows, and wringing out his dripping green T-shirt.
I'm grinning, running my hand through my fiery red hair, daring a swift kick to his shin then jumping over board before he can catch me. I splash and dodge and laugh at his attempts to rope me back to the boat, hoping the moment lasts forever. His matching red hair and blue eyes suddenly bob up next to me; I hadn't even noticed when he'd jumped the boat.
"You're not the only one who can surprise." he says, and flings an armful of water over my laughing, happy head.
The sun rises behind us, two maniacally giggling, red headed, blue eyed, fully dressed twin boys. I can feel myself going soft and sentimental.
"Best friends? Twins?" Iask him, and hold up a fist for him to bump.
"Yeah, forever, even when you're being a pain."
