This is just a little thing I did for creative writing today.

I still found it difficult to believe that this wasn't the ocean. The smell of salt, the uninterrupted horizon, the gulls... If it weren't for the chilling breeze, I'd swear I was home. Well, that, and the beach glass. I wandered up the coast, slower than usual because my fingers and toes had begun to go numb. Despite that, I wouldn't have gone inside for anything. Soon the beach would be coated with a thin layer of snow, and tiny flakes would be whipping around in the wind. There was a long stretch of sand without the faintest glimpse of color, and I began to think I was done for the afternoon until I noticed a glint of vermilion. I sprinted over to the speck hopefully, but when I picked it up, I was more than a little disappointed to realize that it was only clear glass, with fading remnants of red lettering. It was still sharp around the edges, so I tossed it back to the lake, and an inbound wave snapped it up greedily.
