My hand smoothed over the clean white paper of my sketchbook, pencils neatly set beside my eraser and ruler.I lower my eyes as fellow students pile into the room, notebooks slapping on desks and exited murmurs echoing throughout the art room.Ms.Calvino,the art professor, came into the room and introduced herself.
"Why don't we go around the room and tell a little about ourselves?"
I tapped my paper nervously as my turn grew closer. The girl ahead of me;a frail, pretty blonde, introduced herself. "My name is Pixie-lynne and my favorite artist is Salvadore Dahli." Satisfyed, she sat down in her chair and turned to look at me.I stood up,legs shaking.
"My name is Amber...and my favorite artist is Van Gough."That short sentance seemed like a paragraph as my face reddened and I slumped back into my seat.Just as a I began to relax,a voice broke through my barriers.
"Hey,Amber?I like Van Gough too."The girl named Pixie-lynne whispered.I turned to look at her,and she smiled, braces gleaming in her mouth. She had a quirky cuteness about her.
"Oh.."I responded,speechless.Pixie-lynne watched me curiously for this long,nerve-wracking moment, then took the seat next to me.
"Can I see your artwork?" I slid the sketchbook over to her,and she took it tenderly and began to admire the pages. I mostly drew nude girls, but I could see that it wasn't bothering her.
"This work is really pretty,Amber."She said while closing the book, hands resting on it gently.
"Is this your first day?"
"Well,I've never seen you before. You know, your pretty too.Are you Asian?"
"Cool,I've never met an Asian,I'm a white kid."She said sheepishly. She made me want to laugh, but even if I did it would be quietly.
"We should hang out, okay?I'll see you in lunch."
I nodded, now flushing deeper than before.Pixie-lynne stood up and headed back to where her friends sat, immediatly beginning to chat and laugh comfortably.
Plz tell me what you think!!
