It's so hard to say that I'm sorry
I'll make everything alright.
All these things that I've done
Now what have I become and where'd I go wrong?
I don't mean to hurt just to put you first.
I won't tell you lies.
I will stand accused with my hand on my heart
I'm just tying to say
I'm sorry
It's all that I could say.
You mean so much, and I'd fix all that I've done
If I could start again.
I'd throw it all away to the shadows of regrets
And you would have the best of me.

"Best of Me"
P R O L O G U E:
Just three hours ago, Chris watched helplessly as his husband cried for the first time since the death of his father. There was no consoling this sort of crying, either. No matter what Chris tried to say to him, Seth didn't want to hear it.
His words were meaningless now. Seth would no way believe them.
Chris cried as Seth pulled a suitcase from under the bed and began throwing clothes into it haphazardly, his back to Chris. He begged him not to go, that things would change. But Seth carried the full suitcase down the stairs, Chris hot on his heels.
Three hours ago, Chris looked on powerlessly as Seth's car went speeding down the street, tears falling down his cheeks.
Three hours ago, he chased his youngest daughter, hysterically calling for her father, running barefoot after his car.
Three hours ago, when she heard the news, he saw his oldest daughter look him dead in the eyes and tell him she hated him before the door to her room slammed shut.
Only three hours ago, Chris felt his life unravel at the seams.
