“This is where it all began.” Kaede said as he looked at the empty street. Umi stayed close by Kaede and nodded. “Yeah…” as they were standing in the street where they had first met. Where they had first seen each other, where Kaede saved him, and where they had their first kiss. Though it was only a street, it was filled with memories. Memories that were precious to both Kaede and Umi. They stood next to each other, in silence holding hands looking at the now lonely street.
Kaede and Umi had been out all day. After leaving the cafe they began to walk towards the aquarium. Before arriving there was a small festival. “What’s going on?” Umi asked Kaede as he walked up to a flier that was posted on the pole. “There’s a festival. Today is the last day of the cherry blossom viewing.” He said as he handed the paper to Umi. “Sounds like fun.” Umi said and smiled at him. Kaede turned and replied “ Why not. Let’s go inside.” Umi nodded and walked inside, Kaede following right behind him.
“Let’s go inside the haunted house.” Umi chirped and pulled Kaede’s arm. Smiling Kaede said, “Okay, okay calm down.” And patted Umi’s head. Blushing, Umi replied “Mm-hm…” The entrance was decorated to look like that of a dungeon. Chipped grey brick stone with vines growing around it. Intimidated by the look of it, Umi held on to Kaede’s arm. “It’s okay. I’m here with you.” Kaede said as he pulled him along. Obediently Umi followed behind him. The passage was narrow and dark. Sounds and howls echoed which made Umi shiver. Figures surfaced and came out of hiding in the darkness. Umi yelled as one of the dark figures tried to get his arm but pulled back. Kaede held Umi close to his chest and had his arm around him. Umi buried his face in Kaede’s chest. Gripping his shirt, ‘It’s okay. We’re almost there.” He heard Kaede whisper in his ear. Soon they both found themselves walking out of a door into the light. Kaede and Umi looked at each other and laughed.
The sun was setting soon; the sky was dyed in pinks, oranges, and reds, with a mix of yellow. The wind ruffling his hair. Umi sighed as he leaned against the rail. Kaede had gone to buy them drinks and told him to wait. The day’s almost over. Umi thought. Soon the rest of the day will pass by and tomorrow… tomorrow Kaede will be gone. Kaede walked over to Umi and handed him the drink. “ What are you thinking about?” he asked him and rested his arm on the rail. Umi didn’t want to think about it anymore and decided not bring it up. He didn’t want to ruin the day. All he wanted was to make the day last and make memories that Kaede could take with him. “Nothing really.” Umi replied. They both looked up at the sky. Kaede rested hid hand on top of Umi’s and held it. Umi blushed as he felt Kaede’s touch. “Kaede…” Umi said. He turned to look at Umi and said “Yes.” His hair moving in the wind. Blue-black strands of his hair covering his eyes. “ Let’s go on the Ferris wheel.” He said as he looked up at it. Kaede turned to stare at it as well. It was slowly moving; lights were turning different colors and patterns. It’s light was illuminating and bright against the setting sun. If this is where it should end… it should be there. Umi thought as Kaede took his hand and led him towards the entrance. Some of our final memories together should be together in the sky. Watching from above everything, all the lights and sounds .It really doesn’t matter where I am but as long as I’m with Kaede it doesn’t matter. But, I want him to at least have a few special memories with him. Memories that will make him happy. It seems the proper way to end it.
Umi and Kaede were sitting across from one another. The Ferris wheel was slowly moving. The lights of the cars and buildings stood out against the night sky. Umi pressed his hands on the window, looking in awe at the scene. His eyes brightened and he smiled. Kaede looked out the window as well. Smiling as he saw the expression on Umi’s face. They both sat in silence, admiring the scenery. They were at the top of the Ferris wheel now. The highest spot and could see the whole city in front of them. Kaede clasped Umi’s hand. Slowly Umi turned to look at him. Blushed as Kaede met his gaze and started leaning towards him. Umi soon found Kaede’s lips against his own. The light pressure on his lips soon became a deep and longing kiss. Umi gripped Kaede’s shoulders and lightly gasped as Kaede took his face in both hands, bringing his face closer to his. They stayed that way for a while and Kaede pulled back. Still caressing his face, they both stared into each other’s eyes.
“Kaede…” Umi whispered as he brought his head to his chest, resting it there, while Kaede laid his hand on his head.
